- Eric Blair talks to Jerry Only about
rumours that Glen Danzig and Doyle
approached JERRY ONLY about a possible
Misfits reunion, The Misfits also talk about Lodi, New Jersey,Static Age, Khryst the conqueror, fans and the early days
Thank you, Misfits isn't the same without Glen Danzig. He made the name, he started the band, he is a Legend
Just my opinion.. Jerry talks about how Glenn was only in it for the money. In middle school, I discovered the original misfits and loved it. Glenn's melodic vocals over dark and fast music was absolutely awesome to me. When Jerry reformed the misfits and brought in Graves, I thought some of it was cool but it wasn't the Misfits. Part of the beauty of having Glenn in the band was the true essence of what punk was, in my opinion. It was going against what was acceptable in society. Jerry Only took a name for profit (that he accuses Glenn of) and molded it as he saw fit. He focused on the mid-century horror movie aspects the band once used but placed boundaries on the subject matter to cater to his religious beliefs. The result was a collaboration of cheesy horror movie themed songs, bereft of any of the taboo content that made the misfits what they originally were. Since then, Jerry has made a business off of a name. What he's accusing Glenn of is exactly what he's done for the sake for profit. When I think of Jerry Only, I think of "Christ the Conqueror". If it wasn't for the money, he should have just stuck with that.
god i love a person with some brains but don't forget glenn is a bitch too
Oh yes, I did forget to mention that Glenn is a douche. Despite Glenn's abundant display of douchery in interviews and getting knocked out by one of the members of one of his opening acts, he still is part of what made the misfits what they were before Jerry turned the name into money in his pocket.
I pray to god that Jerry somehow sees your comment... couldn't have said it better myself, thanks for sharing.
truth. Theyre both washed up hypocrites clouded with pride.
Icing Glenn for money is definitely not Christian. You cannot serve both God and mammon.
Jerry has always been a great interview and he's a true fan of the music he plays. Long live The Misfits.
So why is it I can buy a misfits t shirt at Wal Mart, but not a Danzig t shirt.
Mark Lawson because edgy emo kids wear misfits because they think it’s cool
😂😂😂😂
They sell Danzig's new vinyl. I don't know why they don't sell his fashion. Wal-Mart is very tame.
@@raredinosaurXD I think there’s a difference between wearing it to support the band you listen to or just because it has a cool logo and looks edgy
Glenn WAS The Misfits.
He wrote all the songs and taught them to the rest of the band.
I agree
Doyle said it best "i don't understand that i'm working in a business where guys can't get along to make millions of dollars."
True, but God damn, Dez knows how to get them...
well sometimes it's not exactly about the money you know like these fellas have alot of differences and Danzig keeps busy man, it is really their business if they want to work together or not, I don't care for the michael graves era, but was really pleased when zoli dez and jerry sing lead, and always like any band Danzig does, the music is what matters man, it sucks I could never see my favorite bands perform, so i missed out on alot, but then again, i had my own shit going on too, so, fuck it man, just try to appreciate that some of our favorites are still alive and well you know. cheers Bub!
That shit is so politically incorrect
Glenn is currently on tour with Doyle. They have a segment of his show where Doyle comes out to play a handful of Misfits songs, so it doesn't seem that he hates it all that much. He used to be annoyed when the legacy of the Misfits overshadowed his post-Misfits material, but I fail to see how any of this somehow negates my previous comment.
He WOULD be pumping gas without danzig
it always seem they never talk about Michale Graves
Michael Christopher he was a better singer
The Unknown Psycho no
No.he was not
Dig up her bones is my favorite misfits song
Because Michael Graves is a f****** ass hat and he sounded like s***
I met Jerry and Dez in Dublin after their last gig they signed my ticket. they are the two nicest guys you could meet
i know A LOT of people like to trash Jerry and call him a sellout and so on. but he was always my favorite Misfit back in the 80s, and since that new version of the band started in the 90s i have met him several times and he is always nice, he always spends a lot of time after each show meeting the fans and giving them all a moment of his time. i dont care for some of the commercialization of the Misfits that has happened since he got the rights to the name and i cant stand the music they have made, but i have nothing bad to say about him. that said yes Glenn absolutely IS the Misfits. its about his amazing voice, its about his great catchy yet raw songs, its about his monster movie and horror lyrics. im glad they did eventually come together and actually do those reunion shows. im not sure how they came about or why Jerry agreed to them. but i know Glenn said he did a lot of reflecting after David Bowie and Prince died, soul searching and realizing how short life really is and he wanted to honor that legacy before it was too late. something has happened wth him in the interviews i have seen the last few years and he seems a lot happier and more at peace than he use to.
Interesting interview. Hail Danzig and The Misfits.
glenn IS the misfits and always will be.
Right!
Damn right.
Onlys the only one there the whole time though. It’s like saying anything sans Ozzy isn’t Sabbath. Geezer and Tony are Sabbath and were the only constants throughout the existence of the band. It’s simply not true guys. You won’t recognize Graves? You probably don’t recognize Dio as Sabbath either. I understand where you are coming from, but I must disagree... American Psycho is a good album, it’s Misfits.
Right! Because he started The Misfits, he loves them, is still in the band, and has spent the most time in the band through out all of the member changes.
nah
Stoked on Jerry's wisdom. There is no price on, true art.
I simply love the misfits.
Its just that simple for me.
As someone who saw the misfis, shook Jerry's hand and got his autograph in a little shitty bar club last year, I can tell you Jerry is one of the most awesome people in music today, not a sell out by any stretch of the imagination and the Misfits are as amazing as they ever were. Long live Jerry Only, Dez Cadena, Robo and anyone ever associated with the Misfits and long live the Misfits!
Glenn didn't leave the Misfits. He disbanded them. It was his band that he started and it was his band that he ended.
"Me dealing with Glenn would be a sell out on my part. I'd rather pump gas." - Jerry only. Well Jerry I guess you finally sold out then.
That dude was a sell-out From the very f****** beginning, and whatever I don't give a f*** about that, he's just a shity musician! what he's done with the Misfits without Danzig for the last 25 years has been complete s*** anyone who's gone to a misfit show without Doyle or Danzig can tell you that it's awful
curtyct {ct the only thing Jerry has done is take one of the most iconic logos ever into a meaningless, Hot Topic garbage. Joke
I've met both Glenn and Jerry. I'd much rather talk to Jerry than Glenn.
Misfits is Misfits. It doesn't matter which era is better than which, just listen to what you prefer.
This club in San Francisco, I think it was owned by Paul Collins, the punk rock guy from The Nerves and The Beat. I know that Paul and Peter Case were acting as promoters, putting on their own punk rock package shows each night. They also played there with their band The Nerves. Not sure how many variations of this club existed, I don't think it's around nowadays.
Jerry Only & Glenn Danzig are sooo hot....STILL!!!
How about now?
hearing Jerry speak and speak truth just gave me a whole new level of respect. the explanation for "Christ the Conqueror" remade me a fan for life again ; D
"I'd rather pump gas." Good, because you probably will be. "Glenn's all about the money." That's odd considering he could've kept the original Danzig lineup/sound going for several more years for a lot more money.
i got respect for both danzig and jerry.. they both kick ass.. long live both of their music.. i'll rock it all any day!!
@realbigmisfitsfan
What The Misfits around in 2010? as far as I know they split up in 1983.
Yes, I'd LOVE if Jerry finally stopped pretending to be The Misfits. He was a bassplayer for The Misfits, but they died in '83. And those short years that the band were actually alive they created the greatest music I'll ever know.
Damn, you have some great shows Eric. Thanks!
6:11 "I know a lot of people are gonna wanna hear that." He sounds so sarcastic. haha
It’s all about “the kids”
DUDE!
I AM 50!!!
I like Jerry I like Glenn in the end they are going to do what each other wants and believe what they want. We the fans most likely won't get a reunion. I enjoyed Graves and I don't mind the new misfits album. I look at this the same way I do Metallica and megadeth two good bands in the end it doesn't matter and it all works out.
Glenn and ONLY Glenn was the Misfits and when he left, the Misfits were no more. Jerry says he'd rather pump gas than play with Danzig then why'd he reunite?
i met jerry and doyle about 15 years ago being a fan i remember they were very patient and polite. overall in that instance they were very cool.
great interview!! THANKS!!
"I'd rather pump gas" HAHAHA! Great interview.
Jerry looks more and more like a Saturday morning cartoon character every year.
@ManFromMelbourne Yes and no. Diane DiPiazza temporarily played bass during tryout sessions in early '77. She wasn't meant to be a permanent member and basically stuck around until someone else could be found. Diane left, Manny introduced Jerry to Glenn and Jerry became the first and only permanent bassist, and was part of the first full lineup. He played at every show and was on every album and E.P. recording. I'm also guessing that Jerry was never introduced to Diane.
Yesterday on koncert Jerry signed my Danzig T-Shirt and said "I just want to say "Hello" for Glenn :D
The Misfits died in 1983 when Glenn left, Jerry is NOT a founding member as there were 4 songs written solely by Glenn in January of 1977, and the first Misfits line-up was: Glenn, Manny on Drums, Jimmy Battle on Guitar and Diane DiPiazza on Bass....this was the original rehearsing lineup from January of 1977 to Mid to late March of 1977....so no, jerry was NOT the first bassist of The Misfits, and the Band existed before he was a part of it....so in actual fact, yes, it IS Glenn's Band....
"too much corporation talk' ? glenn is what makes the misfits universal and timeless thanks to his views on the world . jerry is missing the point of the band probably, it is not just about the fans, its about the music and the message.
Yeap, all mine. Thanks for the correction :P (I don't have anything against Jerry Only, I just think that the true Misfits were in Glenn's era, and now they are... well certainly not what they used to be and I like the way that Glenn experiment in every album :D)
yes i agree its true today glen is the misfits
yes in fact he can sing. i was really impressed by deth red
@xxthedeathofmexx HAHA. you are spot on with that statement. I read years ago & know for a fact that it's 100% true that Jerry offered Glenn I think it was 1 million a show, for 10 or so shows. Glenn told him that he didn't want his F*ckin money.
Danzig doesnt want a reunion - for Samhain and Misfits . He said its past he is focusing on future (in an interview I readed it)
Dude they all need to just man up and GLENN needs to come back.
If Jerry wants the fans to be happy, bring Glen Back.
I don't understand why Danzig fans always claim that Jerry is all about the money. I like Danzig too, but the guy is known to be quite ruthless when it comes to money. Dani from Cradle Of Filth once joked that they were going to do a collaboration with Danzig on a song back in the mid 00's(i think) until Glenn moved the decimal point on the cheque. I've heard other stories that were similar about Danzig too.
My problem with misfits now is the quality; i liked the Graves era just fine.
Yeah that's it! thanks
people keep saying Jerry doesnt want to do a reunion but danzig said himself i will never have a reunion with the Misfits so im pretty sure its not all Jerry...
The Misfits are still a group of misfits! I still like the band. but it would be nice if Jerry Only and Glenn Danzig would settle their differences. But that is up to them not the fans to keep asking them to reunite!!!
People need to quit arguing and just enjoy the music. Punk is mainly about being different from the mainstream and society as a whole!!!
"the bottom line was everybody thought that Glenn was The Misfits and that couldn't be more far from the truth. That's more obvious today than it's ever been."
Are you fucking kidding me?
If anything, Jerry has proved that over and over again.
Like misfit1071 said, if it is about the fans, there would be a reunion.
The fans are sick of Jerry and Dez, they suck.
We want a reunion. We want a good line up.
You do it for the fans?? Uhh, I'm a fan and I want the fuckin reunion.
if the misfits was a band of of its fans they would do a reunion with danzig and doyle
You can't possibly believe that the Misfits were all Danzig's idea, Jerry had to have a good amount of imput as to the vision they had for the band otherwise Jerry wouldn't have been able to keep the name. I think that Danzig did want to do the reunion, but HIS way and also he could've just kept Michale Graves as the singer.
I don't know.
Doyle(I know he's not in this video.)still looks badass in his costume.lol
The Misfits with Danzig was a late Friday night horror double feature.
The Misfits without Danzig is Saturday morning cartoon.
Danzig era misfits is the classic line up. but the american psycho line up was awesome as a seperate entity. jerry is now the misfits like it or not.
this is not the Misfits
it's a band called Only Jerry.
i really wish they would at least do a reunion with graves i really don't see how that would be selling out.
Jerry your the man my favorite misfit
youre correct about that.he makes the music he likes and wants to do.if other people like it,cool,if they dont,oh well he still gets to do what he loves.without changing or doing anything he doesnt want.and if I may say so myself, hes done a damn good job without being a gross mainstream sellout piece of trash.if you really look at it,hes been around since mid 70s and has NEVER once done something that wasnt him, something thats jeopardized what makes his music, HIS music.
i agree Glenn Danzig was the Misfits period.
Atleast Jerry is still going and rockin out
Thanks for the reply,I always wondered why he left.
Danzig didn't "leave" the Misfits, he broke them up. That's one way of seeing it anyways, you could also say the Misfits never died, they just changed their name to Samhain and then later Danzig. In either case, the Misfits were, are, and always will be Glenn Danzig's band.
That's not what he meant, he meant that corporations would probably come in to play a role for the reunion and for the ego part Jerry thought that Danzig and him and Doyle and everyone else wouldn't get along.
Jerry and Glenn need to work things out, they act like teens when they got some good years on them, i a fan ask for a reunion not all of us were lucky enough to enjoy them back then and it be awesome too see that.
I agree with some of the stuff jerry says, but seriously, all a true Misfits fan wants is that reunion! The tour Danzig did with Doyle is closer to the real Misfits than The Misfits are now! He said Danzig would make it about the money, well I'm sure Jerry isn,t adverse to money! Maybe a bad example but if a band like Van Halen can set aside it's differences for the fans sake, I'm sure The Misfits could too! C'mon Jerry! Do it for the fans!
0:36 Jerry realizing he’s getting cancelled😂
I think Jerry is honest and loves the fans but if he really cared about them he would work it out with Danzig. That's what the fans want.
He named it, he can call it whatever he wants. Plus one of my copies only says Earth A.D.
Danzig and Doyle are The Misfits man, without a doubt.
Gotta hand it to Jerry. he's doing what he loves to do. I would rather see this misfits of TODAY then the Dead Kennedys of TODAY.
pretty sure i hung out with Jerry in a bar once. he told me he used to play bass for Misfits. i didnt know anything about Misfits but was a punk rocker since the 80s. Never got into them. He was a good guy if it was him. Sure looks like him.
Daniel Clarke When was this?
Fo real graves is a badass front man and thats coming from a danzig fan
its kinda weird to hear him say that Danzig wanted to do a reunion.. I literally just watched an interview with Danzig where he said "Its not gonna happen. I'm never doing a reunion with him." Check it out for yourselves.. its on the side titled "Glenn Danzig talks about Jesus Christ and Hitler"
this guys kickd soo much ass togther why can they just bring the original misfits back togther, it don't matter if they do it for the money,, Misfits ruled they should be on the top anyways. Put the problems away jerry n glenn, reunit the Misfits!!
The Jerry Only Band!!🎼🇺🇸
man i love JERRY'S bass, as long as the misfits stay true to there fans that's what it's all about,I don't think money is the issue ''thay have that '' just makeing good music . the only way to live threw the past is to get on with the future .and i like the attude they have a bout the band now .
Jerry says it right here, Danzig was willing to do it, and Jerry refused it, he's putting his ego and his hangups over the fans, he says he'd rather pump gas then allow a reunion. enjoy that buddy, can you wash my windshield while you're at it?
The philosophy of cash
Nice spin, Jerry.
What the hell is Jerry talking about?
And in this video there are segments of a Glenn Danzig interview. Does anybody know where I can find that full clip?
The very end sounds like "Your a Nacho"!
Absolutely!
I would love to see the misfits Play one last time but also want to see the current Land Of The Dead line up because that song is fucking awesome.
yeah, you totally convinced me
The fans want to see them with Danzig again haha.
so how is it that glenn isnt the misfits when jerry was not a founding member?i know he was in it from the first shows but technically there was a different guitarist at first
jerry seems like a sensible guy, hey, we all need to bring home the bacon, if your good at somthing, dont do it for free. the fact is, we are all dirt bags in one way or another.
Well Said Jimmy Punk I Fully Understand Wat Ur Saying My Good Man PUNK ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
glen started the band , and wrote and created the majority of the music till they first broke up in the 80's
Jerry touring as the Misfits is just ridiculous. To me it would be like Ringo Star and some other guys touring as the Beatles.
We are still ready to hear more authentic rock! The Billboard hot 100 is still overwhelmed by almost all rappers. Most rock bands are acting like scared women.
My friend invited me to go see the misfits last year.
I told her, "A Ramone, Black Flag, and Jerry Only is a misfit alright. but not THE MISFITS"
I'm on the fence with this one, I like Glenn and I like Jerry but if they could bury the hatchet their reunion tour would sale out everyt ime. I am so damn lucky I had the chance to see Glenn play with Doyle during the Blackest of the black tours. He played more Misfits songs than Danzig ones. That threatre went NUTS!!! I think the walls even bled it was so kick ass! I've seen Danzig 5 times, that was the best one no doubt!
Look up the Danzig-era Misfits albums on Wikipedia, all songs were written and composed in their entirety by Glenn Danzig...
You could replace all the other members with any musician that didn't totally suck at playing their instrument and the result would be the same
(not saying the other band members don't deserve any credit, just that Glenn Danzig was the most important part of The Misfits)
If Only did really put the fans 1st, he would do the reunion show.
I agree with you, Glenn Danzig changed his music direction for Metal, Horror Punk isn't for him anymore. Michale Graves would be a better choice, if he makes a reunion with Graves, it would be great anyway!
@SumFungi Funny he says that but he repeatedly asked Danzig if he would play with them again.
