I was pleasantly surprised when he started singing in Icelandic!
Famous old poem from the 10th century by Egill Skallagrímsson who did like to to some slaying when he was not writing poetry.
"Það mælti mín móðir" would be the Icelandic title

I think Alea (their singer) said he even had two icelandic teachers, so he could get the pronunciation about as right as he could.

Well, if you like (medieval style) folk music like this, here's a few suggestions:
    Schandmaul - Tjark Evers
    Faun - Federkleid
    In Extremo - Feuertaufe
Versengold - Die Namen von Millionen
    Subway to Sally - Sieben
Yes, Germany has a rather large scene for that kind of music :)
Also check out Algal the Bard. Dude does accoustic instrumental covers of metal songs with medieval instruments, completely amazing. And maybe something for your D&D sessions.

    Hey man
This poem, Þat mælti mín móðir, was written in approx year 917 by my great great great... (repeat "great" 26 times hehe) grandfather Egill Skallagrímsson. I am his direct descendant 28 generations up.
Egill Skallagrímsson was born in Iceland in the year 910 and is the main character in one of the most famous Icelandic Sagas, "Egils saga Skallagrímssonar". He was the son of Skallagrímur Kveldúlfsson, who emigrated from Norway. They settled in the West of Iceland and the farmhouse Borg is where they made their home. The small town of Borgarnes, a stone's throw away bears the name of farmhouse. Egill was quite the character. At the tender age of 7, he was playing sports with the neighbour's kid, Grímur Heggsson that was a strong 11 year old, and Grímur was giving Egill a hard time so Egill just killed him. As you do... haha. That's what vikings do. haha. After this, in stead of giving him a hard time for what he did, his mother told him he would make a fine viking and Egill wrote this poem on that occasion.
It should be noted that the Icelandic language has changed very little since that time. Here's Egill's original poem, followed by the modern Icelandic version:
    Þat mælti mín móðir,
    at mér skyldi kaupa
    fley ok fagrar árar,
    fara á brott með víkingum,
    standa upp í stafni,
    stýra dýrum knerri,
    halda svá til hafnar
    hǫggva mann ok annan,
    Það mælti mín móðir,
    að mér skyldi kaupa
    fley og fagrar árar,
    fara á brott með víkingum,
    standa upp í stafni,
    stýra dýrum knerri,
    halda svo til hafnar
    höggva mann og annan,
    Þorsteinn Kolbeinsson

Hello, new subscriber here. I hit the sub button after your "could this be the end of the channel" video, and after hearing your thoughtful comments, and the shoutouts to TCV and Tank and others, which I also follow and support, you had a lot of karma points in my book. And as a German, of course I do very much appreciate you reacting to a German band. So, playing by the rules, I give you one (in digits: 1) request to a German band that is special to me, and that is Lord of the Lost, "For they know not what they do". Trust me, you'll love it.

ahhhhh kinda rhythmically similar, but not note for note, as far back as my memory goes.... but hey, there's only so many combos of 1, 2, 3, 4, beats that can be done... pretty sure 4/4 has been done to death, lol.
Fun old song, great new imagery, wailing pipes and grinding gurdy... what's not to like?
As someone whose voiced pipe organs in the deep dark past, I find the timbre of highland pipes (sans excess drones) and the Reed stops on the pipe organ to be eerily similar. ("not note for note")... it's the hash harmonic content that both have... Packed into the mix of a metal band, they have the sound of a machine of war and the wailing of the combatants, all rolled up into one.
    Fun stuff.
    .. Sol-tah-she-oh.
