this has made me feel so emotional, I used to play the double bass in secondary school and we did this for one of our summer concerts in the orchestra, it's strange I'm listening with headphones and all I can hear is the bass line I use to play :)

Nice detail: the march was not written for the eponymous film at all. Eric Coates, the composer, was approached if he could write something for the film, and he simply came up with this march that he had recently written to no commission and was lying on his shelves still unused.

"There's a great story about some guy doing this to legendary (and sadly late - RIP) Aussie conductor Richard Kingsmill.
He loved the Dambusters March, so a bunch of guys from the orchestra set up outside his house on his birthday, and were going to play it...but then a shitload of NSW Police vans turned up before they could start.
Everyone shat themselves when the vans stopped, and the doors opened...
...and the entire NSW Police Band steps out with their instruments, sets up with them, and joined them in playing along.
Turns out word got out, and someone tipped off the cops, but only the band leader so they could join in." - u/disposable-name
