Basketball Women's Preliminary Round Group A - United States Czech Republic Full Replay from the Basketball Arena at the London 2012 Olympic Games. -- 3 August 2012
Basketball made its appearance at the Olympic Games in 1904 in St Louis as a demonstration sport, as the competition was held between only American teams and counted as an event of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU of the USA) Championships.
At the Games in 1936 in Berlin, basketball joined the Olympic programme, where it has remained to this day. Women's basketball debuted at the 1976 Games in Montreal.

I agree I think that the stars were Lindsay Whalen and Angel McCoughtry and that Maya Moore and Sue Bird who had the most playing time actually played really poorly and actually had a bad tournament. All Maya did the whole time was foul and nearly fouled out in one game! I don't actually think Geno is a good coach as he always put on the weaker team instead of the strongest and was criticised many times by the commentators of the games. Lyndsay was the best PG but he kept putting on Sue Bird

You obviously don't watch womens basketball. If you did you would hear professional male basketball players people who have played or still play in the NBA say that they have lost something and could learn a lot from womens basketball. The women are just as athletic as the men watch the USA v Turkey or USA v Canada to see just how athletic and talented they are. The men's game is defnitely real basketball. I agree that women's basketball is popular and good but don't diss the men's game. Men are very athletic and skilled and they do a lot more than dunk. Some of the best athletes in the world and the best team does win.

You obviously never go to womens basketball matches cos the stands are normally full and do you know why that is, well, most professionals will tell you that if you want to watch a real game of basketball you have to watch the womens game as the mens game is no longer real basketball, dunking takes less skill and so a lot of artistry is lost where as the womens game takes more team work and skill to make a shot. If you don't believe me look it up on the internet.
Oh yes and jack daniels mens basketball is not all about dunking. And it is real basketball, and every single thing they do, aswell as the women, is art. Dunking is an art. But your version of art is team work and passing. Mens basketball has a player named rajon rondo, who for the past four nba seasons has averaged 11.1 assists per game. If thats not art, you dont know what art is.
Women is no different then men..the only difference is dunking..and even some women can dunk now so..

lol did someone on here say that Griner was asked to play in the NBA... wtf are you smoking?? and someone also said the girls are just as athletic as the guys? sorry, don't want to be sexist, but they aren't... these girls would whip up on high school guys teams most likely, and smaller ncaa colleges like bad division 3 teams... sorry i actually saw our division 3 men's team scrimmage a local d1 girls team and the guys won by 50+ just messing around... explain to me if girls are just as athletic, then why is it a big deal when a 6'8" girl with a standing reach of 8'4" dunks? and nothing is thought of when a 6'0" guy with a standing reach of 7'4" dunks lol... sorry women, don't mean to offend... just saying

If you want to debate women vs men athletes, all you have to do is look at track & field, the purest of all sports (nothing but running, jumping, and throwing.) They train the same, have the same running, throwing, and jumping techniques. Put them side by side in the same event and the men will always beat the women. Now, take one of these elite women an place her next to the average guy and 8.5 times outta 10 she would win. But take the #1 ranked woman and man, then line them up against each other in a race, long jump, or shot put event... no contest.
Point is don't defend against bigoted views with bigoted views.

Kevin Richard they actually practice against men who have played college ball, because there aren't enough women who can compete on that level. I would love to see you go up against one of these women. Not saying you would lose, but it wouldn't be as easy as you think.
