The United States performed to Michael Jackson's 'Smooth Criminal' for their team technical routine. Their routine included a synchronised moonwalk underwater, and saw them finish in seventh place for the first of three phases of the competition.

For me, this could probably be one of, if not the hardest, sporting events in the entire Olympics. Imagine holding your breath while dancing, swimming, floating, while being synced at the same time! Just wow! Kudos to the athletes of this event!

@@sumursumur7334I actually saw a TH-cam video that the synchronized swimming athletes tend not to hear the music as clearly and loudly, rather, they solely rely on their countings. That’s how it works.

7th place at this point in the competition. 🤷♂️ I'm not an expert on synchronized swimmingly, but I've seen a lot of routines. This is by far the most entertaining one I've ever seen. Great job Ladies❣️ You've earned the gold in my eyes🥇

Synchronised swimming has become so awesome over the last 20+ years!!! ❤ Can we all just appreciate how damned difficult this routine is? Their choreography is awesome, let alone it being underwater, their synchronicity is astounding! It is just mind blowing to think of the breath control, body control and absolutely phenomenal artistry this performance or any of the Olympic synchro swimming teams put into their acts/performances/competitive contributions!!! ❤ Has to be one of the hardest Olympic competitions of all time… this is not just your standard athletic competition…this a way above that, for this you need the athletic ability, artistic ability and just all round awesomeness..rated up there with gymnastics and ice skating (for Winter Olympics)!!

Synchronized Swimmers are so beautiful and I am sure their fitness levels are amongst the top levels in the Olympics.
I would love to have seen them do a group moonwalking scene, all moving backwards , not just the short footwork they did.

As a swimmer of 70 years, I can assure you, this is not only a sport but an art. You are not only holding your breath, but controlling your breathing to maximize oxygen use, moving against resistance in three dimensional space, and timing your movements to music and in sync with your teammates. It may look easy, but only a small group of people on the planet can do this. This SPORT is out of the range of most people. Consider, outside of the water in the pool, there is no equipment to rely on, no coaches calling the plays, and no ringman to tell you what to do. And, this is no 15 second event. Try it and then see how your body responds. These young ladies are really elite athletes and artists.
The breath hold capabilities are amazing.
When I was the Skipper/Captain of My Own Commercial Boat, I spent a lot of time Underwater examining the Hull and Propellers. Therefore I know full well. the difficulties of staying Underwater for extended periods, whist doing Physical Work. A great effort and well done Ladies.
