The Mario del Monaco clip is from Mexico City, the night Callas interpolated a High E-flat at the end of the Triumphal Scene which is famous to this day. MDM spent the rest of the evening singing as high and loud and long as he could to try to steal the show back again. Yes, the Corelli clip is pitched too high. Missing from this collection is Mario Filippeschi, Naples 1956, which is available elsewhere on TH-cam. Search for it. Utterly amazing. Singing in Italy, this man could stop traffic in Cambodia.
Kinda pointless like so many other compilations of this type . Taking effects out of context and compiling them seems to be all the rage now , with people bitching about the effect , applying ,quite predictable , sports aesthetics - who holds on longer , louder , higher ,etc . This isn't opera , folks . Opera is arts and in order to appreciate arts you have to listen to the complete opera or at least the complete scene , then you'll know whether the effect is appropriate in the context . And it's Radames , not Rhadames , and the fact he is a warrior is actually of little importance to the plot and of no importance at all for the drama .
Dear Vivian, Martinelli sang a remarkable 123 Radames's at the Met with Caruso in 2nd place with 91 performances. No other tenor comes close. Martinelli received many fine critical reviews in over the 900 total operas he had performed at the Met alone.
In queste registrazioni: 1) Del Monaco 2) Corelli 3) Bergonzi 4) Martinelli 5) Ferraro 6) Gigli Gli altri secondo me seguono a distanza, in ordine sparso

No conocía a Jon Vickers...
Not that it needs it by any means (in fact it might be less fitting, I think), nor that the kind of tenor required to sing the role live could be expected to have one, but has anyone ever heard a top D at the end of this? I could at least see someone attempting it.
What a great DRAMATIC line.I enjoyed every tenor.

IMO, The 1951 Mexico City Aida is the best I ever heard. Perhaps the combination of high altitude and high ego between MDM and CALLAS
dickrodstein Filippeschi knocks this phrase out of the park!!
Wasn’t the “Callas night” in Mexico with Kurt Baum?
This was awesome!!!!!!
The Corelli clip is sharp by a whole tone
Mario del Monaco impresionante !!!!!!
The great maestro Franco Corelli, one and only
Gigli is not robust enough for my taste, but De Sabata's conducting is tremendously exciting without being rushed.
Most missed is Lauri-Volpi. Fascinating collection nevertheless. Martinelli unexpectedly impressive. .
I so agree re Martinelli. His fiercely heroic high A's are simply spectacular as befits so great a warrior as is Rhadames...

14:41 The conductor needed a toilet break badly.
If it's a joke, I did not
It was. It's just that in the Pavarotti recording the orchestra is extremely fast in comparison to all the others
Haha relatable 🤣
😂
Pertile was great here too
The Corelli recording is running very fast
si, vero, la rifarò!
Martinelli is 58 here. He sang a remarkable 123 Aida's at the Met, Caruso 91 and Baum 68.
In queste registrazioni:
1) Del Monaco
2) Corelli
3) Bergonzi

Hate to put it this way but contemporary tenors just can’t get it up.
Hehe
FILIPPESCHI! FILIPPESCHI! FILIPESCHI !!!!!!
Ma se non c'è
MDM is unbeatable in this recording!
Del Monaco sopra tutti, come sempre.
With Corelli & Del Monaco...there is no match
Corelli's patented high notes always drive the New Yorkers into pandemonium.
MDM and Corelli by miles the best
MDM the best, but where is Bjorling
1:58 Amneris almost lost her text (somebody whispered "traditor" a second before)
11:46 Tuba fail 😂😂😂
She didn't lose her text, in live performances there was often a prompter. You can hear the prompter also in few Corelli recordings and not only.
Is Zambon slightly sharp?
yes
cabaletta64 hmm I suspected as much! But still a note of extremely good quality! You don't hear voices like his today, unfortunately!
My top 5 (in no particular order):
del Monaco, Bergonzi, Vickers, Ferraro, Carreras. :)
E filippeschi??
Poor Corelli....the speed is all wrong so he sounds like a Chipmunk
Filippeschi .. ??!!!!!!!
@@cabaletta64 No, non è così
1. Corelli 2. Del Monaco 3. Di Stefano
You know who's missing? Fllippeschi.
th-cam.com/video/ccY-b6gUKl8/w-d-xo.html
Yes I know, but I did not have the complete recording of the scene.
Filippeschi was certainly among the best.
Del Monaco, Bergonzi, Ferraro, Labo’, Pavarotti (top 5)

Very ambitious 🤣
Ramon Vinay’s 1950 should be on this list. Better than half of the tenors in the video
