    Tried 1942 for the first time in Mexico recently. If you haggle the price down it was a pleasant summer sipper, however...1942 is clearly the JW Blue label of the tequila world.

    When I first started my journey in "premium" tequila, 1942 was at the top of most lists along the likes of Cuervo's Reserva de la Familia. I would find if for about $100. Now that I know better, I find much better options out there for less. i.e. ArteNOM 1146, Don Fulano anejo, Ocho anejo, G4 anejo, Fortaleza.

    Great choices gentlemen. I agree with your picks. I visited the Los Abuelos distillery last month and I picked up a bottle of the añejo. It's truly amazing. The Don Julio 1942 has additives and is decent at best imo. Definitely better options to be had for a lower price point.

    As a newbie who likes whisky and hadn't had many tequilas, I thought 1942 was great. It hits a lot of notes whisky drinkers like but now with experience I've learned about additives which I try to avoid. Currently I prefer Blancos to aged tequilas anyway, Fortaleza especially. I had Fortaleza Añejo once in a bar and liked it very much but it was years after 1942 so it's hard to remember the specific differences.

    The majority of the DJ 1942 and Clase Azul demographic are not buying the juice in the bottle they are buying the actual bottle or clout that come with it. I would like to see you recommend Rey Sol, Tears of llorona, Tequila Ocho XA, match presentation but with superior juice.

    I've had all except for the Artenom. But I've had several bottles from NOM 1146 (El Tequileno). All fantastic and, in my opinion, are a better value and overall better tequila than 1942. I could add others anejos from El Tesoro, Ocho, Suerte, Don Pilar, Siete Leguas. and many more. Take that with a grain of salt. I think Tres Agaves Anejo is, for the money, better than most anejos on the shelf.

    Heritage Of Silver, which you have go across the border for, is almost as good as these, but for a price not far over Cuervo!
    For me, I buy very little tequilas inside the USA, because it's "mixto".........half the real tequila and half mixed with other tequilas. Buy a bottle of Don Jolio in MX (with the sticker on it) and buy a bottle here, then do a taste test, and you will see they aren't the same.
    They put that sticker on bottles in MX, so that you know it's 100% & not mixto. I learned this the hard way with Hornitos Commemorative.

  • @ncyankee101

    I have a bottle of 1942 I bought around 10 years ago. It is still half full because it is so damn boring that I have no interest in drinking it. When I bought it, it was still pretty well respected and I was fully expecting to like it. It was boring with no agave taste, or interesting barrel flavors, just vanilla. A friend of mine who has been into Tequila longer than me was surprised I didn't like it. At the same time I bought a Casa Noble 5 yr XA for about the same price and it absolutely blew it away.
    Honestly, I would choose almost any anejo I currently own over 1942. Fort, El Tesoro, El Tequileno, Pasote, Siete Leguas, Tapatio, Suerte, Gran Dovejo, Don Pilar, Don Fulano. The current Casa Noble in the tall square bottle is not what it used to be - now seems to me to have some unnatural vanilla taste - but even that would give 1942 a run. I would probably even take lunazul "extra aged" anejo aged in Elijah Craig barrels.

    • @CuriosityPublic
      @CuriosityPublic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure -
      Blanco/silver are unaged, or aged up to 2 months
      Reposado (means "rested") is aged 2-12 months
      Añejo ("aged") is aged 1-3 years
      extra Añejo is aged 3+ years
      most are usually aged in oak barrels (often used bourbon barrels).
