Yeah, Buzz's girlfriend's picture is one of the producers sons. He didn't want a girl to deal with being made fun of for being the ugly girl in the movie

The reason Kevin doesn't go to any adults is cause all the adults he has been around either treat him like crap, or are trying to get to him like the burglars. As an 8 year old kid would in this situation, he would stay away from aduts.

Crazy in canada under 12 your mond is considered too young to have the same mental intention to commit a crime. At 7, you cannot even commit a crime no matter what you do . In the States i suppose eveyobe is punished as an adult. @cmo6055

I would agree with you, but the 3rd does have its moments. The kid is obviously not as iconic as Kevin, but I enjoyed it... perhaps it was because I was a kid though, I haven't watched it in 20 years lol. I think I would consider it one of those "Watch once" movies, whereas 1 and 2 are "watch every year or two" movies.

Excellent pickup on the photo of Buzz’s girlfriend being a boy in a wig. The crew felt it would be wrong to do that to an actual girl. I think he was the son of someone from the art department.

@21:44 the shot was reversed. It was filmed with Kevin screaming then the van was reversed away so no one was in any danger and it is less technically complex. The scream was added back in post. Just learned this tidbit this year. Grew up watching this movie.

It was definitely meant as "just a kid's Christmas movie," but one of my favorite trivia bits on it is that it is considered a benchmark movie for stuntwork. The choreography and execution of the stunts altered the industry and set a new standard for decades afterward.

Estrangement has become a very real thing that is much more common than you think between parents and grown children.
As to the parents, many of us GenX can relate to the complete lack of parenting and being able to go anywhere and everywhere without our parents. Kevin’s parents represent a nice compilation of the parents many of us grew up with.
John Hughes was pretty in touch with us, making many of the 80’s movies that we look back on defining our teenaged years. Home alone had a younger protagonist, but even as you g adults we could relate.

That's the city flag of Chicago. Its actually one of the most iconic flags in the country. The North American Vexillology Association has ranked it the second best city flag, after Washington, DC.
The top blue stripe represents Lake Michigan and the bottom one represents the Chicago river. The 4 stars represent significant events in the city's history like the Great Chicago Fire.

They filmed the scene where the van nearly hits Kevin in reverse, but it's well done, can't really tell. And it's funny you said you don't know how Marv screamed without being bit. The actor did that scene completely silent to not freak out the spider, they added the scream in post.
Home Alone 2 is a decent watch, but that's about as far as you'd need to go.

Yes, it's true that Kevin was being a brat at the beginning but I agree with you - Kevin was absolutely getting pushed aside by everyone so I don't blame him for acting out. And I suspect that this behavior is common in his house based on the behavior of his older brother, Buzz. I also suspect that Kevin's creative 'genius' was being stifled and unrecognized based on his use of Dad's new fish hooks to makeornaments along with Kevin's argument on why he couldn't use the old ones.

  • @littleogeechee223

They’re all McCallisters but they’re not all Kevin’s siblings. Buzz, Jeff, Megan and Linnie are his brothers and sisters. Heather and Rod belong to brother Rob McCallister newly re-located in France, Heather and Rod were staying with Peter and Kate to finish out school.
Tracy, Sondra, Brooke and Fuller belong to Uncle Frank and Aunt Leslie. In the house to go on the trip there are 4 parents and 11 kids total, 15 people to keep together and take safely to France! LOL!

    • @SnowyWolborg
      @SnowyWolborg 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

To add, Peter and uncle Rob are clearly the McAllister brothers who have done well for themselves in life. Peter's home speaks for itself, since it comfortably holds a family of seven. And as we see later in the film, uncle Rob's apartment is right outside the Eiffel Tower, which is an expensive area of Paris. But Frank? The guy is such a cheapskate and a freeloader.

Buzz's Girlfriend was indeed a boy in a wig. It was the Director, Chris Columbus' son. The reasoning was exactly what you pointed out. He did not want a young girl having the idea that she was put in a movie only to be called ugly.

  • @emilysmith259
    @emilysmith259 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Also, I don't think the police were informed the family was in France. I think they were not taking it seriously because her son was home alone. She didn't say how old he was, (and this is in the early 90's...latchkeys kids were common) or that he was going to be unattended with no family/friends to step in until they can get home BECAUSE they are in France. With those two pieces of information, they absolutely would have sent child services.

“Angels With Filthy Souls,” isn’t a real movie, it was shot for this film, the same way “Angels With Even Filthier Souls” was filmed for Home Alone 2. So if you’ve heard people say “Keep the change, you filthy animal,” they are referencing this movie. Same as if you hear “Merry Christmas, you filthy animal… And a Happy New Year!,” then it’s a reference to “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”

A year before Home Alone came out, there was a French movie called Deadly Games/Dial Code Santa Clause (1989) about a kid that has to fight off a Santa dressed burglar in a mansion. Almost turned into a lawsuit over copyright but it’s more of a horror film. Worth a watch.

    1. John Candy did his part at union rate/FREE for his friend John Hughes
    RIP 😇😇
    2. The items in Kevin's bags were not the same as what he had a checkout.
3.Marv /Daniel Stern has arachnophobia. That's why he freaked out. He insisted on doing that scene in one take. (NOTE: tarantula spiders aren't venomous to humans but look scary). He insisted on only one take. They dubbed his scream not to scare the spider.
    4. "Angels with Filthy Souls" is not a real movie.
    5. GOOF: Marv has tar all over his foot when he steps on the stairs but when he grabs his foot, and all the other scenes after that no tar.
    6. NO WAY could a child get the rope tight enough between the house and treehouse without a winch of some kind.
    7. There's ANOTHER NO WAY Kevin could clean up that fast.
    8. "Home Alone II" is good. However, Kevin as good hearted as he is, he gets mean.
    9. Macaulay Culkin worked with John Candy (and Hughes) in "Uncle Buck".
That's how he got this gig. Great first time/share. HINT HINT

    $19.83 in 1990 is worth $48.05 today.
The house was bought in 1998 for $800K and is worth $2.3M today.
In the movie, the tickets were paid for by the wealthy brother in Paris. The Chicago McAllisters were keeping a couple of their kids so that they could go to school in the States and taking them to Paris to be with their parents for Christmas. The wealthy brother was played by Chicago actor and award-winning set designer, Ray Toler, whose scenes were cut.
The directors didn't want to insult a girl by making her pose as Buzz's ugly girlfriend, so they had Devin Ratray, who played Buzz, put on a wig and pose for the girlfriend photo.

31:30 - Not really; in this scene it is the verbal exchange which is the focus, and it is important that we the audience hear it- I would in fact consider it the most critical bit of dialogue in the whole movie. The choir singing is background to the conversation; and the audio [I suspect] is therefore tuned accordingly. But in fact the neighbor’s voice has always registered to my ear as unexpectedly gentle, friendly, non-threatening… and quiet.
31:52 - I don’t see how it is so obvious: Kevin has no way of knowing that one of the kids in the choir is his grandchild, or that he would be here now for the concert practice because he was unable to come that night for the actual performance. There are a number of other reasons he could have been there. He might have come to pray and meditate; or he might have heard the singing and walked in off the street to listen.
32:02 - sadly, there _are_ people out there who have cut ties with children, parents, siblings, etc, due to a quarrel. It is not unheard of (-especially in the current political climate).

Home Alone 2 is a decent sequel, I won't spoil it in case you want to watch it. 3 and 4, while not bad movies, are definitely worst than 1 and 2, and incidentally, completely unrelated (same recipe, different characters).
The detergent could be strapped to his back, or he could have asked the store to keep it for a while and he'd go back to get it later. While we don't know for sure, it's an acceptable scenario.
They didn't go to jail because, well, this was the 80s. Leaving kids home alone was par for the course. My parents were going to work and I'd stay home alone from age 6. I don't know in the US, but in Portugal, this was no head turner. Nowadays this would be regarded as irresponsible, but then, it was just another Tuesday.

Angels with Filthy Souls was made specifically for this movie, it's just that scene. Same with Angels With Even Filthier Souls which is in Home Alone 2.

No, it can hurt if you get out of hot water, the open pores on your skin can make it so alcohol burns.

For the grocery bags scene Kevin is supposed to have more stuff on his back according to the director which considering the amount he bought would make sense. Also I believe the original scene was different but when one of the bags tore they decided to go that route with it instead.

When I took my first driving test, the officer's name was Friendly. We had a good laugh about it. And he actually lived up to his name. He said the only thing I did wrong was I did the "serpentine" one-handed.

Kevin McCallister is indeed jigsaw and since we are going about film theories I came up with a theory that squid games is in the same universe as the saw franchise were the old guy followed up on the jigsaw murders in america and came up with his games

Home Alone 2 is an excellent sequel to this film. John Hughes has a number of great films from this time. Uncle Buck is fun.

Maybe he got the detergent home by carrying it in the back of his pants like a big but pocket 😂

Kevin must have keistered the detergent. I mean he was one of Michael Jackson's frequent guest. They made the black and white clip with the tommy gun just for this movie.

The van was moving less than five miles an hour so he was safe. At worst he'd get knocked down if it bumped him but im sure there were layers of safety. For instance you can film that by taking the front of a dodge van and using it as a facade you could move it and stop it by hand.
