I have a 3D print and found that lowering the infill Wil lighten the part without losing the structural integrity.... and for these you really don't need much infill. 3-10% infill will work great. I designed and printed a dummy radial engine, canopy slides, and wheels... working on landing gear covers for my F6F Hellcat....
Great video, thank you! Very useful for F14 owners 😀. Rich from RCInformer also designed some reenforcement plates for this plane. Keep up the great work.
I did this on a smaller scale/ 64mm. F-15 e-flight and it gave a considerable improved thrust factor.. however needed to stay in the throttle where before it would dead stick in..but am happy with the extra push!! No real loss in battery life. Was worth the modifications!!
HI Mate, greetings from Oz. FYI when you cut / grind out the foam you said you need to get it as clean / smooth as possible, that's not strictly correct. One thing I learned from racing my Porsche was that expensive racing / competition plenums are actually dimpled. So Smooth bad, Dimpled good. You can google why a golfball has dimples and it will give you the theory. I guess you could dimple the air ducts etc with a hot dimple iron. I might try and make one up. Not sure about just a rough surface could be better than smooth, maybe. Enjoy your videos. I bought the aluminium plates and the wooden tray extension plus nose gear reenforcement from Dunstan. I will have to have a look at the area you suggest to plate. I have 2 new F-14s in the box. Going to build them as a wing pair and fly formation with my nephew. Only have access to grass fields. Cheers
Just found you ,,, thanks for this info ,, have had my tomcat on the stand for over a year now waiting on mods and upgrades,, the battery bay mod I did as soon as I put her together ,, now it looks like I have a bit more work to do , but it’s worth it . The main thing I would like to have is enough performance to do everything the tomcat can under 3/4 throttle, and leave the rest for when the wings are swept to give it that “maverick is supersonic,be there in 30 seconds “ kinda feel ,, as I’ve heard it does not have any change in speeds with wings swept or extended in stock form
I appreciate that but I give credit to the others that made them and did the calculations. I only changed the nozzles because I changed the motor and fan assy s. I am sure Freewing had it right with theres. Aloha is a smart dude. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching. I am not sure you are going to be able to. I use a 10 channel receiver to make it happen and split out the ailerons from the blue box. You can do some mixes using using the custom mixes although in your radio. You have to figure out which features are more important to you
Check my link for the Jeti DS12. I wouldnt ever go back to Spektrum after getting a jeti. Jeti DS-12 Special Edition Carbon Rc Transmitter, A Beginners Point of View
Just the jeti receivers. But the quality is second to none. You don’t worry about them not having one or constantly changing them or signal issues. I made the decision in the change to go from one plane forward and still use the Spektrum on my old stuff. Some will get updated. Most won’t. www.Aeropanda.com www.espritmodels.com
Jeti for the win.... Just upgraded from the 16 to the 24 , couldn't be happier! What Jeti ESC's would you use? I purchased the 9 Blade in runners for mine. :-)
By opening up the nozzle you are giving the plane more thrust but slowing the exit speed which in turn possibly slow the plane down a bit. From what I have seen with fms fans they like to be in the 90-95% FSA in order to really be good all around. When you go below 90% you get more speed with a minor reduction in static thrust. Should be interesting to see how this flies! It looks way mkre realistic thats for sure!!
@@JustPlaneCrazy ok thx. I got the fsm motors. But i needed to trim a bit to get then to fit. I think the freewing versions just slot in. Its become my Christmas project. Thanks for all the info…
The down thumb is not working! I like your mix for bring the flaps up fast, i need to do that on mine. the tail throw is fine on mine. I need to do a nose gear mod on mine though. I love you nozzle mod a lot too! great work on all your mods and mixes!
They look spectacular

Awesome.
As usual great information happy days.
Excellent vid again Brendon with tons of useful info, thanks for your time & efforts! Greetings from Belgium!
Thanks for watching, Esp from Belgium
looks great, always like seeing your edfs fly at the field. thinking about getting the futura or eflite f16 in the spring time
Futura or Freewing Avanti. Hands down

Well done on the paint job. You mage Plastic look like Metal. Fantastic work. ... talk to me Goose.
Paint job/ weathering looks great. Plan to do thrust testing difference between the nozzles? Thanks for sharing.👍
Very slick man nice Job!

Hi - Really like you solution for landing gear reinforcement plates - simple and cost effective. How are these keeping up with Grass ops?
Amazing. Zero issues
@@JustPlaneCrazy thanks for your reply. I must say your videos are very detailed technical and helpful for other modellers
@aviationunlimited4353 thanks for watching and commenting. Happy flights
Great info on the F-14. What was the mix you used to have the flaps come back you before the wing sweeps?
If you want just send me an email and I can email you the dx9 file. Brendenmccormick@att.net
You should contact alpha or freewing to see if they will make the changes
You are a great rc innovator

Do you have anything on the t.v. for freewing f22 90mm?
Sorry I do not. I have seen not a lot of tv because the extra weight doesn’t make it a desirable flyer.
How can I set it up like u did with a dx 8 gen2 transmitter....?

Thanks for watching. I run the 12 blade Fms fans 2100kv. I would go with the mezon lite 120. Not sure the 90 would cut it.
Where could i find these stls? Also will this still help if i am running the stock edfs
Stock EDFs have different openings I believe. Check thingaverse or they are available in the f14 thread of rcgroups

How well did the mod work?
If you mean the nozzles specifically they were ok. No major wow factor to be honest. Maybe a hair improvement.

Thanks for letting me know that the down thumb is inoperative. I might leave it that way lol.
Lol. You didn’t need to give me credit for anything. But thank you. Lol
