What a fantastic start to the show, the scene on the bridge really makes you realise the chilling truth we’re just fleas to them, Godzilla protects earth not us if we get in his way he’ll just bulldoze through us. Always Cate has already become one of my favourite characters in the Monsterverse.
By the way, godzilla came to bridge because, some military idiot thought it was a good idea to bring a nuke under a bridge where people were on it, nice job guys, you just killed your own people😑
My favorite is Godzilla you know an actual monster.... And if this was the first show I ever watched I'd think the drama was good too, go watch Godzilla minus one and then say this show is good.

That is not the Sleeping Beauty Castle from Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. It's either the Cinderella castle from Magic Kingdom in Orlando, FL or more likely the Cinderella Castle from Tokyo Disneyland.
The girl who plays Cate is gonna be a huge star. The camera absolutely loves her. This show is so pristine. At the same time while the flashbacks dont bother me, its the way they are out of order that is a little confusing at times.
Maybe those spectacular and healthy 91 years are because some kind of exosure to some Kaiju that slows his age? I don't know, in this universe everything seemps possible

It's so weird because I put this on to chill out to this afternoon and only saw it was called Monarch. I had no idea what monsters. I had no idea this was part of a movie series. And I really enjoyed it on it's own! I have only seen one movie, The 2014 Godzilla. so I feel like i need to catch up before the next episode.

5:32, Before than, she is illuminated by the interior lights of the plane as if under a spotlight, visually conveying her significance before the shutters open and illuminate the rest of the plane’s interior. But on a more thematic level, duality and there being hidden sides to something or someone is also a narrative obstacle the main characters have to overcome if they want to settle their differences with each other, as Cate is persistently hostile and judgmental towards Kentaro while refusing to acknowledge he and his mother are also victims of his father’s deceit. On the other side, we have no context as to why Kentaro stopped communicating with May long enough for her to become resentful him, but whatever the reason, he is very similar to her in the sense that his father appeared to have abandoned him just like he seemingly abandoned her. But most poignant of all, Monarch only gets to show a sinister, menacing side of itself to these kids, as they are oblivious and indifferent to the nature of the organization’s true purpose of containing titans and preventing civilians from potentially interacting with them and causing havok. The character’s myopia is the closest thing we have to a true antagonistic force in this show aside from the apparent threat of Monarch and the various creatures hidden across the planet.
Why is the volume so low? It's 3 to 4 times lower than the norm. Not fair because if we turn it up the next vid will be deafening. Please think about your viewers
Appreciate the work put in. Having said that, when you’re talking more about “duality” than Kaiju monsters it makes for a “meh” that could go somewhere or nowhere. 🤷♂️
Epic start to this series. I smiled when hound dog played, a future Elvis song, when Wyatt Russell was on screen. Might be a reach but Kurt Russell as a kid kicked Elvis in the shin in Happened at the worlds fair and then of course went on to play Elvis in the John carpenter movie 😅
It seems pretty clear that Keiko will survive as she is Cate's grandmother and she doesn't talk about having children. Plus, the fact that Cate and Kentaro are both Randas indicates that Bill Randa is their grandfather as Hiroshi is their father and Bill's son. Bill died on a mission relating to Monarch and now Hiroshi has disappeared, also relating to Monarch. The Randas are entwined with the organization.
I wonder if the shooting of duality/opposites being reflected and also kintaro and Kate are representative of the Shobijin. Aka the twins in Mothra. With Monarch representing Mothra. Just a thought.
I really have to wonder how many dudes they had to run through that had some infinitesimal modicum of acting ability and ever so slight resemblance to a young Kurt Russel.
Excited for the series. I feel bad now because I skipped through every intro of every show and movie. I'm sure somebody somewhere I put a lot of time and effort into the messages of the introductions.
It’s a widely known fact that these movies are amazing at showing monster mayhem but not so good at developing characters yet they really thought making a show focus not on fighting titans, but in stead on the humans of this universe was a good idea?? Idk man I hope it’s good
I thought episode 1 was kind of dull.. Episode 2 got me interested tho. Hopefully it's one of those shows that gets better with each episode. We will have to wait and see. It's Godzilla so I'm here till the end no matter if it's good or bad. Hell.. I sat through the Netflix anime trilogy and NOTHING could be worse than that!!
My current theory about Shaw is that Kaiju can prolong human life a bit the same way they seem to heal the planet and make plants grow faster and stuff. Negative and destructive radiation like sun damage cause you to age faster, they damage your skin and organs and make you look older much quicker… a 40yo with sun damage looks older than a 60yo who lived a healthy lifestyle. Whatever “positive radiation” that the Kaiju emit canonically heals the planet in this universe… the Kaiju like Godzilla were worshipped as gods… so my theory is that prolonged exposure to that “healing radiation” can slow the effects of aging and allow humans to live a healthier life for longer. Not living for 200 years or anything ridiculous but perhaps keeping you looking and feeling younger for an extra decade or two. I think Shaw is a living example of that… he’s in his late 80s but looks much younger. This is what harmony with the Kaiju can be for humanity. Live with them, let them heal the planet and people and we will benefit from them. But humanity always has to shoot first!

4:46 there's a easter egg in the buldings left and right.. the left one with the japanese letters has closed blinds and you can see "rubber" and "soul" on the window - that's Japan Toho Godzilla. And right you can see modern windows and kinda start up workplace, a digital workplace, thats the US Legendary Godzilla... kind of a stretch, I know
I always thought the Monarch logo was meant to be inspired by Mothra. If you look at it, it could be imagined to be a simplified image of a set of wings, like a moth.
@5:46, what I didn't like about this scene is that Kate exits Haneda Airport on the upper level. Upper levels are always for departures not arrivals. So, okay, could mean anything but why have her exit from the departure level when she just arrived?
Not gonna lie, I know the first two episodes are doing a lot of groundwork but I feel like there was so much dialogue and not much world building or action. In a world where multiple monsters are now real, setting so much of both episodes 1 & 2 in the past felt like the, being able to avoid spending the money on showing us how us how the presence of monsters have affected the population on the day to day (bar the evacuation scene). We literally got to see the Kaiju at the very end of both episodes and again, both set in the past. Really hoping they kick it up a gear in episode 3 and quit all the long drawn out dialogue that can literally be cut in half. Other than that it was cool seeing the impact Godzilla had on the ground and hopefully we get to see much more of that (should’ve been the focus of the first episode imo as we would’ve connected with Cate much more on an emotional level).

That dragon Kaiju gave me major Bagorah vibes, a Kaiju from the Dark Horse Godzilla comics from the 90's.
