Remember that time Trott offered Smith the full set of greens for his one red and 400 quid, when Smith had like 900 or something in the bank? And then Smith refused? Pepperidge Farm remembers
If smith took that deal he wouldn’t have been able to pay the 600 to unmortgage them, but he would have given trot the two most valuable monopolies in the game with enough capital to start improving them. There was no obvious mistake that he made, he just got unlucky and the others refused to make fair deals.
@@SuperThest He could have unmortgaged them easily enough. I think is 506 to unmortgage the greens, he would have had about that even if he didn't try to negotiate (could have probably got Trott to cut down by 100 or so if he actually tried). He could have mortgaged his blue if he wanted to pay for the greens, or just waited for a bit till he passed go. 2 turns to get those puppies pumping out cash
@@SuperThest The 400 is really the big one here. It means Smith wouldn't be able to build on them anyway and the 400 would allow Trott to build a ton of houses and take the lead in the game. It sounds like a good deal, but it really isn't.
tbh, even then it's pretty questionable. In extremely fortunate circumstance he would be able to get both blues. Other than that blue, there were only like 5 or 6 passes in the game, and only like 1-2 that would've gone very cheap.
@@GEM4sta Perhaps you're right but maybe with the blue set and the extra cheap properties he could've made better deals. Then again I hardly play monopoly.
Smith's "strategy" was just hoping to get lucky on two fucking spots on the board. It's not a sustainable strategy at all, it's entirely RNG based and even more so in an auction only game. He just played like shit, plain and simple.
His strat wasn't bad, but it didn't work with the meta bc people just skipped all the new property over time, so he couldn't gain enough 'bargaining chips' for it to actually work. In a buy/auction only game, it's a decent strat bc everyone else is left with no money after buying all their stuff.
His strat very well could have worked, he just got unlucky and the game didn't play to his favor. That and the other players are really freaking stubborn.
Doug Birley I’ve said this a million times, but that was not a bad deal. Trot gets one of the most valuable monopolies in the game and smith gets 600 in debt that he has to pay off before he can do anything. The deal only favored him by $84 but trot would have control of the most visited corner in the game.
For as long as I have watched Sips play games, he has unbelievable good luck. I've seen him overcome at the brink of disaster/losing it all, countless times.
love how it seems, that only the sips grasps basics of strategy and value of properties and property blocking. Everyone was thinking, he was crazy to get last train station for 600, but that is denying 600 from Ross, that would made it in 3 passes on any train station, which is nothing in the grand scheme of the things. Same with refusing to deal with anyone, that would gain them complete set for just little over the "paper" value of the property. Owning a set is a huge deal, and I would say, that even Sips offered them for quite cheap, 650 to close another set, when you have 1,5k, and Ross still refused?! lol
Ross refusing that was a terrible idea on his part, Trott has given him a chance by buying those houses on the greens and I assume as time goes on he is going to continue to pump all his money into houses leaving his bank with very little leaving it a matter of time before he lands on Ross and has to sell all the houses he's built for less than he bought them. If Trott had left a buffer allowing him to safely land on Ross and then put excess money into buying properties then he would be in a much better position
A game called exiting planet or something stole your 1.7 piston Minecraft video and put it as a add for there game I dont know if you agreed to that just wanted to say
But then i feel like smith’s strat is too powerful and no one will ever wanna bid in the early auctions. I honestly prefer the normal rules because you are forced to either buy the property or auction it. This means there’s advantages to both buying properties early, and saving your money to pick up all the properties people are forced to auction. It just seems more balanced.
@@ZoahPorre you said "and can only bid 10 and 100". why are you changing that now? and if it's +100 each go, you put 100 in and leave once someone puts in another. that seems like a poorly thought out rule to me.

I agree with others that said, that Smith should have realised earlier that his plan wasnt going to work (with the skip rule on), instead he doubled down, where he should have made more reasonal bargains. I also feel that including Sips made the game alot better. It is very evident that the Hatters know each other too well and he helped shake things up abit, while still being familiar with them to talk shit instead of feeling like some random guest.
Only a matter of time until Trott wins this unless he does something silly like selling all his houses instead of mortgaging or Ross is lucky enough to bankrupt Sips (which he almost did) turning his 1 set into 4 if you include trains, all cheap ones and close together will give Ross the win if Trott is poor when it happens and Ross can somewhat develop.
This is probably the best monopoly game I have ever seen, Trott vs. Ross is going to be great! Only shame about Smith, but I think he knows how to improve in the next game :)
As house rules I propose: 1. No passing on auctions - to prevent hard spending early and then just denying auctions when you are low on cash. Makes for some more tactical choices when buying properties in the early game. 2. No 1$ bids. There is no difference between 100$ and 101$ in monopoly, just don't bother with it.
Why do they think the money is the only part of the game, its a game about owning property, Smithy tactic was stupid, you always need to focus on getting a set, Smithy was scared to compromise any of his money, which slowly lost himself power as the game went on. I actually can't believe people are defending this strat as it is by far the dumbest strategy you can do in monopoly because your only income is luck, and you'll never be in a position to bargain as the person with the most power is literally the person with the set. His strat might work on idiots but even Smithy gifted Ross his light blue set which could have been his only bargaining chip but like I said, too scared to compromise money, now look at Ross.
I think that Trott might be in the running, I think he would be winning for sure if he hadn't bough those houses on green as he is now in a lot of danger of landing on one of Ross's and losing it all he's built. Ross has become too complacent with his blues as he is earning a lot of money with them but with only a blue set and Trott with the full orange if the game kept going with just those then Trott would have edged him out of it in the end
