    Smith's deal with pyrion was an incredibly clever way to break the stalemate and make others consider deals, and from what I've seen it seems to be working rather well.

      LaurieYuken a lot of Smith’s trades are VERY fair, if not insane... $1500 for a train station? I wouldn’t have even thought about it. You’d have to land on it 15 times (assuming he didn’t get the 4th) to make that money back.

    • @IronLegionnaire1

      It blows my mind how sips is constantly having a go at Smith for 'ridiculous trades' when the trades he asks for is 1.5k to 2.5k
      Smith's deals are, realistically, pretty fair. If not, it's severely damaging to himself.

      It's not about fair. It's about controlling the assets. Sips is right that there's no point trading unless it's for a set. You win the game by getting a monopoly not by having more cash

    Definitely understand where Smith's coming from. Sips is the old pensioner who doesn't mind the game taking 15 hours. If none of them trade anything the series would never end. The yellow deal was definitely hilariously cheap, but this is just a youtube series. It's not WW3.

      Correct. Even Monopoly IRL shouldn't take 3 days to complete, but no-one ever reads the rules. Trading and forced purchasing are rules to make it go quickly. (But don't ever talk shit about The Best Guy)

    I have to say. The way Smith and pyrion was acting is the best way to play this game. That way it is a game you actualy can play with friends. Sips on the other hand just stalls the game and makes it in to a grind that takes forever with the way he behaves when it comes to trade.

      @@nomore1088 I agree that playing with friends, having a good time, trading is the way to go. But if you just want to win, the optimal way to play monopoly is to grind away at your opponents without ever letting go of any of your properties. The only trades you do should be to buy properties from your opponents to obtain more monopolies. Never selling properties like Sips does is the way to go.

      Then he tries trading pyrion like $1300 for 2 cards which doesn't even coplete his sets and pyrion is flat out saying it's a dumb deal then when as soon as smithy rejects the deal Pyrion is like "oh wait hold on you had a chance". I didn't want Smith to win any previous game but he better win this time.
      Also when he wanted to give ross $1,500 for 1 station?? Come on that's a deal where you just say yes right away, it's not giving smithy that much. I feel like Ross was felt peer pressured to not accept it or something. Even for $1k you sell it and buy a card you actually need with that money. Why care about 1 station which you earn $25 from?? and it'll only let smith earn $100 from them! $1,500! accept that right away. I know it was kind of a joke from smith but that just cnfirms how good of a deal it was and that you say yes right away.

    • @ShadowReaperX07
      @ShadowReaperX07 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@walker1054 Ultimately it seems they've got no idea how to evaluate deals.
      Completing a Set has a high cost associated with it, unless you both complete a set, in which case circumstance and board positioning of the property sets may make one player offer/ask for more.
      If no one is completing a set, it gets vastly simpler in that you can just evaluate the deal based on:
      How long will it take for them to get a return on the property at this price.
      Can I utilise the property/Money they give me immediately:
      Can I use this money to purchase houses?
      Can I use this money to leverage someone else using this AND a property in order for a set?
      This was, frustrating, to say the least.
      1500 for a single trainstation, which isn't even the 4th one, is just an instant accept like you say. That is a nonsense amount of cash to give someone this early in the game; especially if they're roughly equal with other players at this stage in the game.

In such a game, Pyrion would probably be something like 35% to win I think (Assuming play follows that Sips recognizes that he is going to struggle unless he hits big on blue, and sells Ross Red for something like 1k in value. A house rule you lads may want to implement is: Only the parties involved in a trade may speak about the trade until it's completion. This will avoid any unwanted outside influence from other players and forces the players to decide for themselves.
    Monopoly is a funny game because it doesn't necessarily need to end with a single winner. If players cooperate they can build a stable system where no one loses, ever... or until the bank runs out of cash or good ol' human greed rears it's ugly head.

    So Sips is just being a stubborn, malevolent prick to Smith and ruining the atmosphere for whatever reason, Trott sees Smith as the biggest threat out of the group on a mental level, but what baffles me is why Ross is ganging up against Smith as well. He seems to only be afraid of Smith and almost trusting towards Trott, even though the latter is the one constantly trying to manipulate others, lying and pretending to be more stupid than he is. Smith is certainly crafty as well, but in situations like these (trying to gain advantage through mutually beneficial acts) he's usually quite reasonable and even honest.

    In game 1 Smith was taking all the advantages over Trott and Ross, which Sips rightfully pointed out. People were yelling at them to not take Smith's asinine deals. Now they are wise to his deal making but have over corrected and people are mad again. To win in Monopoly, you need to propose good deals that are fair and refuse bad deals. History does matter and Smith gave rotten deals and now isn't trusted to deal with. The good thing is that there is 2 other people who are neutral in this and should make fair trades.

  • @joshuablankenship9531

    What Smith doesn't understand is that cash is worthless with no sets on the board. If you want property, you are going to have to trade some property back with cash as an extra bargaining tool, not the main means of trade.

    • @henryfielding6961
      @henryfielding6961 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cash is worthless but its not like he had much choice, he lost out on dice rolls and thats all he had to trade with by the time the board was all bought up. And like money is worthless in real life but because we all realize its potential as a trade go between it suddenly becomes very useful, theres no reason that cant apply here, the only reason its worthless is becasue they all refuse to deal with it apart from smithy.

      Not really. The value of a property has less to do with potential rent and more to do with the leverage it gives you over other players. It's really hard to get someone to trade cash for property unless they really need that cash, so you generally need to have a property to offer in trade make progress

      @@DaliborOkoro I'd disagree with you there. It's definitely an exorbitant price, and definitely not something anyone should consider paying, but think of it this way: If he had taken less for it, it would've bolstered Smith's position, and undermined his own. That's because the other players wouldn't accept a cash-for-property easily, so if he wanted to see any benefit from that trade, he would've needed to get enough money from the deal to buy another property and make up for the one he'd lost

    • @britishhedgehog
      @britishhedgehog 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Property is all there is to value. 1500 is worth nothing compared to future earning potential. Ross can't use that money to build houses and no one will trade him a set. Instead he now has leverage against Smith if a chance to trade property came up. Cash trades are how you lose the game
