I think University is more like an adult's environment, so that is why most people (students and teachers) call each other by their first name. Meanwhile, High School is more like a children's environment, so students are being expected to call teachers by their last name as a way to show respect as a child to an adult.

@@honeybadza3884 Yes, I didn't even know most of the teachers last name. And in Sweden we also don't say Mr, Ms etc. to teachers so we only say their first name
in Brazil too and here the students follow the teachers in social media and some teachers even give their contacts. It's normal.
Same in Finland. ^^
Actually I have some friends that I call only with last name (especially friends from military service time)
