- Diana Ankudinova was 14 years old when she did this amazing performance of Rechenka, a Russian folk song. Diana's deep tone and tastefully added yodel technique makes her sound like a magical flute, as she moves easily through the melody.
Diana Ankudinova's stage presence and vocal abilities are stunning, regardless of her age, and to think that she was only 14 years old really blows me away.

Good Morning from Poland !!! Thank You for your professional comment. About the song "Rechenka": This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage. She says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper. These are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, at weddings they sang sad songs to scare away evil and the marriage of a young couple was to be happy. Such songs were called “weeping.” The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest...

Where it is sung in a whisper is like the words of a deceased mother, because in Russia since ancient times it was believed that the river is the border between the world of the living and the dead, as in the mythology of others countries. So the girl-orphan came to the river to tell the mother that she was being given away for the unloved, to a strange family, ask for blessings and cry.
Это старинная свадебная обрядовая песня,это как пазл ,она состоит из фраз взятых из обрядовых песен.Там где поется шепотом это как бы слова умершей матери, ведь на Руси издревле считалось что река это граница между миром живых и мертвых,как и в мифологии других стран. Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human.
First, she is a dramatic contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich.
Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World.
Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below)
When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune.
And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.

With your respect for young singers, I highly suggest Angelina Jordan, both originals and covers. Try her newest cover of Adele's 'Easy on me", then try her originals and covers back to the age of 9. Easily one one the most talented young ladies on the planet.

The spooky voice is her dead mum answering back! The mood of the song changes and we hear her young girlfriends in the yard playing and laughing, asking why the girl is so sad?
Then she cries uncontrollably. She is lifted into the boat to be taken to her wedding with resignation for a sad life."

Diana at 13yo in her very first solo concert sang "Me Voy" in an unusual rare Spanish dialect. Enormous power and emotions which destroyed me. BUT this song remained unsung for the next 5 years until the end of Aug 2021. Diana decided to perform it (again live in concert) with her more mature vocals, and what a staggering result!

She is amazing for sure, and 14 here. But how about going back a year earlier to her performance at age 13 performing "Jodel Time" on The Voice Kids Russia audition. Diana's current stuff, now at 18, is amazing and shows the work she has put into her skill just like Dimash has been doing. @@HegeOfficial DEFINITELY do Can't Help Falling In Love. That's the first song I ever heard by Diana and I still haven't fully recovered. She reaches out and grabs you, pulls you in, and there's nothing you can do but go along for the ride. There is a funny interchange I recall between Diana and one of the judges after a song. The judge remarks that Diana seems like an ordinary person when they're just talking. Diana replies "But I really am!" And the judge then says "But when the first notes are sung, the air changes in the room ... do you understand?" I don't think Diana understands her ability to profoundly move and take hold of her audience, to spellbind them. I'm betting she can watch her own singing and not feel it. I've watched a video of her sitting on her bed with her teddy bears talking about her 100K subscriber TH-cam plaque (she's over 800K subs now) and she does sound like an ordinary teenage girl. But on the stage ... she's anything but. By the way, love your Diana bangs!!

Excellent reaction! Her age is amazing, but I tend to think that this performance can stand its ground against any performance by any other singer: Diana Ankudinova was not great "for a 14 year old", she was *great*. And now, of course, she is even better!

Rechencka is an old slavic and myth based tale.. this is fittingly a modern interpretation and arrangement for Dianas competition performance. The river is archytipicaly the barrier and link between the living world and the spirit world. The orphan goes go the river on the Day of her arranged wedding to a man she does not know..to ask the lost parents for their blessing and advice.
Wicked game, Blizzard, Denere Dance are all are performances from this competition series..You are super.
If you take your copies from Dianas site you shouldn't have the copywrite issues if you do, point them to Diana's site and get them to clarify. Copywrite belongs to the artist..in this context.
The other advantage is she generally enables multilingual translations.
If you feel like a change but not going to her most recent stuff try a song written for her with a professional video ..Into the Sky's.. she is about 16 in that one. Or Ah-ha's Take on me...recorded at home in lockdown.
She has a very determined but grounded character and is a grafter, for all her ability to play the stage diva or nature goddess she has a goofy sense of humour, see her ticktocks, and is still very much a home/familly girl.
She has also had to organise and self finance many of her performances and recordings to date . The national Russian music industry tends to be largely controlled or represented by a few key figures and organisation's so new talents may not get the opportunities that they need to progress as artists.
This young lady definately has international artist potential...i think you can see that so heres hoping we can spread the word...and help get her the opportunities and support she deserves.

Thankyou. I forgot she has done a couple of numbers in Spanish Me voi and a mix in Havanna..she loves singing in French and also has sung in Arabic.
Apparently she listens to a song 2-3 times on her phone and can usually remember the sound of the words..😯

Shes dropped another great performance in a current HTB series...I recommend you take a look ASAP its called Crow and its got a very different vibe but perhaps closer to Blizzard or Rechencka.

I will explain to you the meaning of this old Russian song that was sung during the wedding. Since a much shortened version was made for the scene, not even all Russian people understand its meaning. An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely, to a man older than her and not of her own free will). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song.
