But it is completely hit and miss, with a janky zoom, and the selfie cam is trash (why include it at all then?). Then I thought it would be a gaming powerhouse or a media machine, but it overheats, has bad speakers, and no headphone jack. So... A pretty paperweight?
Great review. I am a bit sad. Their Ultimate Version or Leading was already worse than the Z60 Ultra normal version in terms of colours. Sadly they seem to overdo it with the Z70 Ultra again. The Zoom is only a slight improvement over the predecessor. The Ultrawide is the biggest bummer. It was a perfect vlogging cam at 18mm with 1/1.5" sensor. The newer one is better for ultrawide shots but not really for vlogging. Front Cam seems way better than on the Z60 Ultra that had a very soft look to it. This one is heavily processed but still prefer this one to a hazy less sharp mess we had before. I think this time around I will wait for the Z80 Ultra instead of the Z70 Ultra. The variable aperture is the main feature on this one. That helps with better 35mm shots. I expect Vivo's X200 Ultra to beat this one also in 35mm and giving us better zoom and ultrawide as well.

Let’s be brutally honest: the removal of features like the 3.5mm headphone jack, SD card slot, and the absence of 5G in certain smartphones is a calculated move, designed not for consumer convenience or technical innovation but to force users into spending more money on unnecessary features and services. This is not progress-it's economic manipulation at its finest, and it’s backed by both corporate strategy and media complicity. First, look at the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. Companies claim it's about pushing forward "wireless innovation" or making phones thinner. But that’s a smokescreen. Wired headphones are cheaper, more reliable, and don’t require constant charging. Removing the jack forces users to purchase expensive wireless alternatives or dongles, which are not only less durable but are also priced far higher than a simple pair of wired headphones. This is reflected in the market: Apple’s AirPods, introduced shortly after they removed the headphone jack, became one of their best-selling accessories, generating billions in revenue. Wireless headphones are designed to wear out faster due to battery degradation, ensuring that consumers will be back to buy more. Next is the removal of the SD card slot. By removing expandable storage, manufacturers corner consumers into buying phones with higher internal storage, which are often marked up significantly. For instance, the price jump between a 128GB and a 256GB phone can easily be $100 or more, even though the actual cost of adding that extra memory for manufacturers is far lower. Alternatively, users are pushed toward cloud storage subscriptions, which generate recurring revenue. Google, Apple, and other tech giants profit immensely from cloud services, where users essentially rent access to their own data, losing control and autonomy over how they store and manage it. There’s verifiable evidence showing the financial incentives behind these moves. Cloud storage services like Apple’s iCloud and Google Drive are multibillion-dollar industries, with Apple's services segment alone (which includes iCloud) generating nearly $20 billion per quarter as of 2023. What this means is that by removing SD card slots, companies are coercing users into paying continuously for access to storage they used to own outright. The lack of 5G support in some models is another tactic. While companies tout 5G as the future, they deliberately release lower-tier models without 5G to create a market split, nudging customers into more expensive models for what should now be a basic feature. As 5G networks become standard, consumers who initially opted for a cheaper 4G phone are essentially forced to upgrade sooner than necessary, feeding the industry's obsession with planned obsolescence. And here’s where the tech media and reviewers come in. Tech outlets, many of which rely on ad revenue from the very companies removing these features, routinely parrot corporate talking points. Instead of calling out these practices for what they are-thinly veiled money grabs-many reviewers praise "minimalist design" or "wireless convenience," while barely acknowledging the financial implications for consumers. There is rarely deep scrutiny over why these changes are happening or how they economically benefit the manufacturers while disadvantaging the end user. The tech media’s tendency to gloss over these issues can be linked to financial interests. Companies like Apple, Samsung, and Google wield significant influence over tech journalism through ad dollars and sponsorships. Outlets that rely on these revenue streams are less likely to offer harsh critiques. In addition, affiliate marketing links are a major income source for these websites-meaning they make money when readers purchase products like Bluetooth headphones or cloud subscriptions. This system encourages reviewers to praise the very products that are part of the problem, creating a biased feedback loop that favors corporations over consumers. What we’re seeing isn’t innovation-it’s a well-crafted business model designed to strip consumers of features they’ve grown accustomed to, replacing them with more costly, less durable alternatives that funnel even more money into the pockets of tech giants. The move away from basic functionality, like a headphone jack or expandable storage, is a textbook example of how the tech industry manipulates consumers under the guise of "progress." It's a slow erosion of choice, autonomy, and cost efficiency, all while manufacturers and tech media repackage these losses as benefits. This isn’t speculation; this is backed by verifiable financial reports, revenue streams, and market data. It’s time to call it what it is: a system built to maximize profit at the consumer’s expense, where unnecessary spending is disguised as technological advancement.
