    I did this and it looks amazing! Absolutely worth the 7 dollars you pay for the LEDS. One thing I will say is that you absolutely need to hot glue the connection points. I thought I could get away without doing so but because of how tight it is inside the console it would short out by bridging other terminals. once I hot glued it was a cake walk.

    So you don't need any resistors with this?also, i noticed the on off led looks different from the others. Do i need to order a separate led for the on off? Also what kind of glue are you using?

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The leds I recommended come with the resistors pre soldered. I am using just normal hot glue. I think its Stanley branded. The reason it looks a bit different is the power led shines through a frosted piece of plastic, whereas the leds in the controller ports shine directly through. You dont need to order a specific led, you can just pull apart the prewired led. That is typically what I do.

    • @awarebear7938
      @awarebear7938 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RockerGaming got it that makes perfect sense. So just (gently) rip apart the pre soldered resistors for the on off led correct?

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@awarebear7938 you got it. I just use my flush cuts and cut it and then pull the heat shrink off and you're all set. Just take note of the anode and cathode (positive and negative, positive will be the side with the resistor on it)

    • @awarebear7938
      @awarebear7938 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RockerGaming is there a way to tell without resistor? Also would locktite work?

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would stick to hot glue as it's what I'm familiar with. If it's a standard led, the longer leg is the anode or positive leg.

      Cole, thanks for the comment. I would do a couple things. I would make sure the exposed leads from the wire that your are soldering to port are as short as possible. Then I would make sure you have all flux fully cleaned up with a toothbrush and IPA. My guess is you are getting a short and that is causing the controller ports to cut out on you.

    So I saw some others mod it so the lights shine out of the fan vents. any opinions on doing it that way?

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can absolutely make that happen, the only thing you would want to do is drill some holes into the fan shroud to be able to get the LED's to properly shine through it. I am not going to lie, its a bit of a pain.

      RockerGaming yeah I just thought maybe it would be cool since you can’t really see this one when your controllers are plugged in. Also just out of curiosity because I’ve never seen it really done. Are there any mods you can do to the game boy player

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cant say I have tried any, but based upon the few times I have fully taken it apart, I am pretty sure you could light up the GBA port, which in my book would be really cool. I have GC project I am currently working on, I might give that a shot!

    okay so I replaced the power led with a different colored one. cant even get it to light up. There is 5 volts present and it just wont illuminate.?

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you have the anode and cathode of the led in right place. My guess is you have it flipped

      @@RockerGaming unfortunately its not that. I really wish it was such a simple mistake. Is there a possibility that the resistor is too high? it meters at 378 ohms.

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fartrellcluggins930 you shouldn't need a resistor on the power led. I believe it already should be at an appropriate voltage. Double check me with your multimeter but I dont ever recall using nor needing one for the power led.

    Does anyone have a link to the led he used for the power led? I want to do this mod once I get my GC loader so I don't have to open my gamecube 2 times. Thanks in advance :)

      Hey you can use one of the leds from the link you just need to remove the pre-wired resistor and you should be all set just mind the positive and negative leg of the led

    Nitpicking here.... but there is no positive and negative on LEDs... anode/cathode sir. LOL. But on a more serious note, have you looked into LED's that's availabe in the scale model realm. Crazy stuff. They have super small, and they got like sparkling ones, and random twinkle, and stuff that simulates jet afterburners and what not.
