- Here we have an incredibly fast-paced and intense lap. Today on the Nordschleife you can experience the hunt between the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Manthey Racing and the Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Haribo Racing at yesterday's VLN race. Have fun!

But generally spealingy in races like this, you tend to have fairly competent drivers on the track.
Don't forget, even the "slow" cars, are damn fast compared to your average dude, who's been on a racetrack once or twice.

@@clothsloth It's not about traffic volume, but about the valuable second that you lose having to break unnecessarily on a straight due to that one dumb crawler who snail-slithers all over the track. One crawler can cost you the race, let alone two.

You can see in the straights the AMG pulls, but the late breaking and handling in the corners from the Porsche kept it close.
actually，I think no matter which car is in front, you will see the same result, cause they are very close. And just when the first car cut in corner, the second car is approaching .
I think this lap here was clearly shaped by the cars lapping.

Mike f actually, the AMG GT3 doesn’t use the 4.0l twin turbo on the street GT. It uses the old 6.2l V8 from the SLS for reliability.

insane lap from both, I almost was questioning if this video was sped up but certainly not. awesome grip in these cars.

I still don’t understand why they run multiple different classes of cars in the same event. Seems wayyyyyyy dangerous when you are blowing doors off 100 mph faster

@Conor This is a real multiclass race, not just a track day or something like that. Those drivers, not just the ones in the top class, know what they are doing.

@@juliosalinas5045 It's the VLN event hosted by different motorsports clubs which spans 9 race rounds in nurburgring. It's a multiclass race.
They are passing other cars like it's a tf day
The other cars were a few racing classes below and were much less powerful and were being lapped. Rules are they had to let them past, watch closely and you can see them indicate.

You also have to account for the fact that it's much easier to follow someone then to be followed. I agree in thinking the Mercedes driver is definitely the superior driver.

Not only do you have to survive the insane track, but the traffic on it as well. Even in the real races they usually have a mixture of fast & slow cars.

@@noneofyourbusiness4294 Exactly. A lot of gt3 cars' parts are replaced with plastic like the doors and the windows so they flex like crazy and vibrate.

Man this was so exciting to watch.. I have to say, two very skilled drivers in two very capable cars. That AMG is a BEAST though. At one point I couldn't even see it any more. Man what a damn race.. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Damn! That was mind blowing. Both cars and drivers are amazing. It's just that I feel unsafe for and with slow cars. That gap between 3rd and 2nd cars when GT3 fits in and 3rd card (BMW) was too close.
The rest of the cars, compared to the Mercedes and Porsche, look like it was a driving school :D

holy moses. That was bananas.And the way they dealt with the traffic was very very impressive. Though question, what are the general track rules for being passed by a quicker car? I noticed they used their indicators but what happens when you approach the turn? Does the slower car force outside exit?
proto35 lower race classes have to let the higher ones pass, however they can't just go out of a corner, so they let them pass before, if possible, or after the corner. Force exiting a corner is just an accident waiting to happen.
I get that, sorry what I mean is, what is the rule? If a faster car is coming up behind you, do you watch their line and see which way they want to pass? Or do you just hang wide on purpose to let them take line. But obviously mid turn is definitely an accident waiting to happen , and as if those don't happen enough on the ring. Basically do you always pass left? right? or better judgement of line.
proto35 you take the first safe opportunity. Usually you see where the faster car wants to pass by, depending on their line and how they approach you, you move out of the way.
For example if you're coming out of a right hand corner, you'll want to stick to the right side, since the faster car will automatically be carried further to the left and the other way around.
