- Here is a rare 1950s episode of the soap opera Secret Storm, starring Peter Hobbs, Jean Mowry, and Patti O'Neill. Includes original commercials for Kolynos, Aerowax, Wizard hair spray, and Aero Shave, along with a promo for the documentary series Wanted.
Patti O’Neill is still around. She’s my grandma!

My mom used to watch all of the soaps on CBS when I was small. I remember the organ music playing in the background. I was born in 1963. I am guessing thid was live
The organist who played on "The Secret Storm" and other daytime dramas on CBS was Eddie Layton. He was also the organist at Yankee
Stadium.

My mom was a CBS soap watcher too. She watched this show everyday after school.
In My Family it was All My Children, then Another World, then Somerset or whatever Soap Opera was on at that time. In the African American Community as well as the UK Community they are known as The Stories. 😊

When I was a youngster, if I stayed home from school due to an illness, I would often watch The Secret Storm and other daytime TV shows. On one, Peter was beaten up and robbed in his hotel room. He was sprawled unconscious on the bed and had bizarre dreams. About a month later I again watched the show and Peter was still sprawled on the bed dreaming. Apparently the housekeeping staff was slacking off that month.

When Love of Life and The Secret Storm were on for fifteen minutes. These two soap operas were only sponsored by American Home Products (Anacin, Chef Boy-ar-dee, Easy-Off, Kolynos, Aerowax, and Wizard). When they were on for a half hour, they added alternate sponsors such as Johnson & Johnson and Lever Brothers.
15 minutes was the whole show??? Wow, I didn't know.

I was just a kid in the 60s and I remember my mom, aunt and grandma watching “The Secret Storm” and “The Edge of Night”. We were all sad when “The Secret Storm”was cancelled in 1974.
The actor that is playing Jerry is a young Warren Berlinger the nephew of Milton Berle!
I thought that was Warren. I think it was back in the late 1990s or early 2000s that Warren was my insurance agent in LA -what a great guy!!
I recognized his familiar face but didn't know his name. He was just 18 on this broadcast. Didn't realize he was a real-life nephew of Uncle Miltie.
That's where I'm remembering him from. Spinout with Elvis, he had a crush on Shelley Fabares's character. He's been in tons of stuff.

Warren starred in BILLIE with Patty Duke in 1965. He also starred in THE GIRL MOST LIKELY TO with Stockard Channing in 1973.

I love the old Aerowax commercial (which starts at 2:52). If I can tell by the commercial, Aerowax must be taking pot shots at Glo-Coat (a product from Johnson Wax) that hard finish waxes may not be better.
Thanks. What a wonderful surprise. I'd never seen this episode before. I remember reading about how different Secret Storm was to other soaps of the day, and I can kind of see that here, especially with the Debbie and Jerry scenes. That was also a bit more passionate of a kiss than I'd expected for this era...
IMDB says Walter Bellinger played Jerry at this time, but there's no credit here.

I loved the Jerry/Debbie scene, and I wonder if their teen romance was the inspiration for ATWT's Jeff/Penny coupling. The opening chords of the scene reminded me of the romantic music for GL's Alan and Hope (the melody in G minor); it was especially used when Alan and Hope were trapped on the island in the summer of 1979. Also, I think Jean Mowry (Susan) played a witness in Jeff's trial for the murder of Al James in the spring of 1958.
I'd imagine that if it were still on today "The" would be dropped from title, just as they did with Edge of Night and Guiding Light.

Kolynos is a toothpaste that is popular in foreign countries, namely in Latin America. I don't remember it here in the United States.
Looks like Kolynos didn't work or was dangerous or it would still be on the market.

When did they go away from the creepy tree intro, to the crashing waves?
I'd also like to know just when that change was made. I do know they went to a new theme music in about the middle 1960s.
