Hear you in England bruv. Gonna jam forth with this. I won't forget the true bluesmen. Like Sam Chatman and your uncle. trust me, I won't let blues down. This is mindblowing. God never just gave him this he worked hard to be this good.
You wrote this comment right about the time God revealed your uncle to me. He have been on my playlist all through my walk in the wilderness. I will be forever grateful.
IS IT JUST ME OR DOES ANYBODY WANNA GIVE THIS MAN THE LONG AWAITED ALBUM THAT HE DESERVES? I LISTEN TO ALOT OF BLUES AND YOU DONT FIND THIS KINDA VOICE....ANYWHERE....
This is fucking crazy mad mental. Sais on a diff clip that, he heard this when he was eight and he always wanted to play it... Here he's on the stage blasting that shit out, must have felt out of this world, you can tell he loved it and is truly in his element... I think, one day the world will look back and be ashamed of the music of our time. Sometimes I think that this is our greatest gift as humans and to the universe is the music we make, such beauty and awe.
+Vanessa Holmes Forgot I typed this... Was he really your Uncle, What was he like? Seems like a tough man but fair, and always one to it right a real proud perfectionist... From what I can see anyways, hope you don't mind me asking, I love to remember people by talking about them, must have watched the other clip about a million times, one of my favorite songs ever just screams to my heart... Amazing.
I was only allowed maybe 3 years in his life, I lived in Illinois and he lived in Mississippi, too me he was a sweet individual until his untimely death! Yes he and my father Rev. Eugene Rivers were brothers, he also sang!
@@vanessaholmes4795 your uncle's music is incredible. I wish there was more audio out there from all his concerts beyond the few songs out there. His music means so much. I wish I could have met him.
This is awesome, to see my Uncle Boyd singing and playing the guitar again with fervor, passion, and soul. Great memories indeed... Your legacy will never be forgotten... The late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Lorine Rivers would be very proud of their son's accomplishments.
one of the most important artifacts of modern cultural production, this video of this performance, a true star, thank you Boyd, shoutout from Shreveport!
the echoes of all the pain in our soul howls thru these great blues musicians! And their howl is so pure and strong, they teach us to go ahead no matter the war we battle! Spectacular jewel of a great musician! THANKS FOR THE POST!
@TheYZAis I recorded him 1980 in his living room for a series of 14 LPs for the German L+R Records. Part of these recordings were released in the States on Evidence Records as a 3-CD-Set ("Living Country Blues"). You may listen to "You Got To Move" from these recordings hier at youtube. Meanwhile here in Germany Bellaphon Records re-released the complete recordings on 12 single CDs and one Double. Boyd died some years ago...
+Vanessa Holmes Your uncle was not a musician. He was a legend. He was part of history of rock n roll, of blues, of nowadays pop music. Much respect, much much much respect for you uncle. Thank you, thank you for your roots.
Hello, Vanessa! How are you doing? It has been some time since I started wondering about what happened to the guitar of Mr. Boyd Rivers. Does it still exist in good condition? Does anyone play it? Thanks much. : )
I wish I could have been there on that day to witness this in person. But I'm very very grateful for this video. The mojo/vibe is very apparent. Mr. Rivers performance here is some of the best Blues music I've experienced. Thank you very much for posting. R.I.P. Mr. Rivers.
@TheYZAis ....there is an eighth track that i know of called "fire shed in my bones" n is on a different gospel album....also i read in Alan Youngs book "Woke Me Up This Morning: Black Gospel Singers and the Gospel Life " he says....." in 1992, he was filmed at his home for a documentary shown on Japanese public television and seen by his son, who stationed in Japan with the Marines. He has also made other thus far unissued recordings"....WHERE IS THIS DOCUMENTARY AND THESE UNISSUED RECORDINGS ?
this is absolutley amazing. i only just got on to this guy through a brilliant triple c.d called 'living delta blues' that was recorded in the 80's. various artists, it is absolutley essential listening
@TheYZAis Yes, only seven tracks were recorded since our budget was limited and our main intention was to record country blues. We were dreaming about recording Boyd live in a church but couln't find noone who was interested enough in a project like this. The folks in Mississippi didn't realize what kind of treasure they ignored.
@sleazypete Hi there ! Tuning ? I was convinced (and still am) that the tuning was like Open G, but with the 1st string still in E. However, I got involved in a bitter argument with some guys on a guitar forum, where they said it was actually in regular tuning. The tonality works so much better in the tuning I prefer. Each to their own !!
Hi there ! That is great video quality there. Did you get that recently ? I got a video tape of that festival about 20 years back, but now its all chewed up. I've been wanting to get another copy for years. Do you know where I could get a copy ? (DVD would be preferred). Thanks in advance.
I think they are different. I mean, the versions transmit different emotions. The one of Muddy Waters does not care about the afterlife. He just tells what we know, and that's it, still kind of happy. The one of Boyd Rivers has a different feeling, more deep, not happy to myself, but putting the hope in the afterlife, or some emphasis in the afterlife...
Respond to this video... This is so wonderful to finally see my uncle Get some Recognition for his God given ability. Yeeeees!

This is my Uncle Boyd Rivers the brother of the Preacher; the Mississippi Midget Rev Eugene Rivers. Now They belong to the ages.
I love him and Ruth May. These videos should have Millions of views.

The raw power of the human soul.

What an absolutely haunting voice, incredible stuff and i am glad it is preserved for us to hear it
that voice is the truth
Best music
What a voice. Soul concentrate!
People now do not respect nor appreciate great music that is why music history is not being past down to several generations.

This is a spiritual, not a blues.
Probably, the best singer of all time...
Yeas! I got this song of his from the modern country blues volmues. Great stuff, what a voice!!!
Praise the LORD
Now this is some good down home singing and playing here.
Is Mr. Rivers still alive & playing music??? He should be treated as a national treasure....it's a sin that he's not better-known!!!

Damn, I've already written it. 😁Still feeling the same. This bluesman's SG is the only one I would ever play.

Boyd Rivers took sick and died in Jackson, Mississippi on November 22, 1993
5,679 views. I must account for at least 4,000!
The real deal...
Sure is!
Amen
Today is Rivers' Birthday. The True 25th of December!
That is the hat I want to wear
Is mr Boyd’s wife still alive?
@nickybux Amen.
thats some mean guitar
Never mind Tony Iommi and Angus Young, that is the only SG guitar I would ever play.
@rockn0329 sorry, Mr. Rivers is no longer with us.
far-out
This man is aerosmith... in one person. Or I guess that aerosmith is this man splited up in a band.

As much as I love Muddy Waters his version can't touch this!
I think they are different. I mean, the versions transmit different emotions. The one of Muddy Waters does not care about the afterlife.
