This is awesome, to see my Uncle Boyd singing and playing the guitar again with fervor, passion, and soul. Great memories indeed... Your legacy will never be forgotten... The late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Lorine Rivers would be very proud of their son's accomplishments.
YOUR UNCLE BOYD?? What a blessing to grow up listening to a great musician in someone's home. An irreplaceable experience.A luxury that money can't buy.
I state the obvious, but I gotta say it anyway; Most of the best musical treasures are hidden in the deep South, the black blues artists of the levees and the delta, Mississippi and thereabouts, these folks are our national treasures. It just can't be taught. It's got to be lived.
Irrelevant it's totally different. Also, Irish folk music has been plenty recorded and spread this is an under-appreciated treasure. All music is from something it doesn't detract from its specific beauty. In this example its surpassed its influences.
@Pictish Gaming No, the form's roots predate the immigration of most of the Irish by about 70 years (smh). You're a big-boy with an internet connection. It shouldn't be hard to remedy your ignorance.
I saw this man playing this very same tune at an old VHS of the Mississippi Delta Blues fest, many years ago, and I've inmediately thought.: "What the hell...?". This one got to be one of the best cover ever of tgis old tune (and there are some). Just superb!
Bless Alan Lomax's cotton socks for recording this AND for now making it available to us all, fortunate people that we are. So much soul in Boyd River's singing and playing. Just incredible. Finding this video has made my day !
the look in this mans eyes says it all - I believe the late Mr.Willie and Mrs.Lorine Rivers deserve an honorable mention having such influence on this truly charismatic and passionate individual that those who hear him preach his wisdom through his music, are moved to continue that legacy in our own lives for generations to come.
Amazing song, I love the moment at the beginning where he looks like he's trying to hold a straight face while looking at the camera then cracks a smile.
I love your singing and playing. Your the genuine article my man. It really made my day to hear that. I am going to try, and learn it myself. I play National steel body and electric guitars on youtube under boyCary
I'm feeling vengeance here, justified vengeance. I haven't got all the words yet and he does talk about the Lord a lot, but his face says _everything_ as far as I'm concerned. I LOVE IT. Here I was thinking BB King was the master of the vengeful love song.
Would love to sing this but I can't find any lyrics to this version and some words are obscured by his accent and gravelly tone(which I love in this context but it makes it hard to discern some words). Google only offers the Muddy Waters-version which has different lyrics. Alan Lomax surely did a massive service to music culture by recording all these gems.
You got to take sick and die one of these days You got to take sick and die one of these days All the medicine you can buy all the doctors you can hire You got to take sick and die one of these days And I believe all power in his hands And I believe all power in his hands Over land everywhere anywhere the Lord is there You got to take sick and die one of these days Yes I know the Lord will answer prayer Yes I know the Lord will answer prayer If you're sick and cant get well surely the Lord will be right there You got to take sick and die one of these days Judgement day will shurely come after while Judgement day will shurely come after while While you go around lying you got to lay down and die You got to take sick and die one of these days Everybody everywhere need to bow Everybody everywhere need to bow Bow down on your knees crying Lord have mercy please You got to take sick and die one of these days

40 years later you can watch Boyd on TH-cam, amazing
He plays and sings so well. It just goes to show how much undiscovered talent there was and probably still is.

Funny coz blues has it's roots in Irish folk music :/
Irrelevant it's totally different. Also, Irish folk music has been plenty recorded and spread this is an under-appreciated treasure. All music is from something it doesn't detract from its specific beauty. In this example its surpassed its influences.
@@pictishgaming3812 No it doesn't.

The emotion I feel when I listen to this incredible performance is almost unexplainable. One of my favorite Blues songs of all time.

He both looks like and feels like Howling Wolf. Both had a very strong raw blues feel to them.

This sounds a lot like a Rev Gary Davis tune. Different words, though.
You got to take sick and die one of these days
You got to take sick and die one of these days
All the medicine you can buy all the doctors you can hire
You got to take sick and die one of these days
And I believe all power in his hands
And I believe all power in his hands
Over land everywhere anywhere the Lord is there
You got to take sick and die one of these days
Yes I know the Lord will answer prayer
Yes I know the Lord will answer prayer
If you're sick and cant get well surely the Lord will be right there
You got to take sick and die one of these days
Judgement day will shurely come after while
Judgement day will shurely come after while
While you go around lying you got to lay down and die
You got to take sick and die one of these days
Everybody everywhere need to bow
Everybody everywhere need to bow
Bow down on your knees crying Lord have mercy please
You got to take sick and die one of these days
"..all the medicine you can buy, all the doctors you can hire.."
pandemic lyrics
@faunoram True soul music.
