We'll take a look at Boston Bruins vs Florida Panthers game 5 of the NHL second round playoff series. All that and more for today's NHL hockey playoffs video
I am reminded of during the regular season where Hellebuyck had a shot go off his mask so hard that it ripped his helmet right off. Officials didn't blow the play dead and the opposition scored but they are blowing a play dead from getting hit by a puck. The quality of officiating is brutal in the NHL right now doesn't matter what team you cheer for.
I remember that play too. There was also a play about 10 years ago where the Bruins were playing Tampa and Tuukka Rask lost the blade of his skate. Rask yelled at the refs to stop play, but they didn't, and the Lightning scored on the play. However, if a goalie loses his helmet, play has to be stopped IMMEDIATELY. Hellebuyck and the Jets got screwed on that play.
My argument too. I'm an Oiler fan and I've seen my share of ref moments famously that pad grab by Kessler in 2017, but this year I've lost a lot of love for hockey, especially in the playoffs. I just don't understand what reference point the refs have. Like we see boarding after boarding call ignored, several horribly missed calls including the high sticks on Hughes and Hyman. There was a too many men call missed on a Vancouver goal, etc. Specifically in game two, the game starts with Nurse boarding Peterson, no call. We also saw at least 30 crosschecks by both teams. We then see the first call that game being a weak stick infraction. Then the next game Draisatl gets called for an interference barely even considered in the regular season, and then see several hits after way more egregious not called. There's no consistency, and because of that every penalty called seems unprecedented and uncalled for. It's dangerous for players, frustrating for fans, and just hurts the league so much. For the first time I'm considering switching leagues and watching Pwhl
Also I remember first year Vegas was in the league a player snapped his stick on Helleybucks mask before a goal went in and they said it was a good goal.
If a ref sees that a shot injures a goalie (neck/collarbone/head area usually), they are to blow the whistle right then to stop play. That ref blew that whistle real quick bc for a split second it looked like Bob was hurting in the neck area from the shot. A split second. Really quick whistle
My only reasonable guess is that the ref thought he got the puck in the throat. Which to be fair, can be life threatening. Clearly not what actually happened though.
@@timothyflanigan1777Actually no. If the goalie receives a hard shot to the face, the play should also be stopped. Obviously that was not the case here.
Florida is diving and headsnapping us all to death, and the refs are lapping it up. Disgustingly one sided reffing here. NO QUESTION, if you disagree, go watch another sport because you dont understand hockey. Terribly one sided
I think that it was called a goal because Bob got back into his stance and was somewhat ready for the shot. It also appeared that (at least to me) he would have been fully ready if OEL didn’t knock his stick out.
His stick was also outside the crease and knocked out of his hand by his own team. That’s what the situation room said, when ESPN asked for clarification.
There is actually even a skate contact(Heinen/Bobrovski) before the stick is knocked out of his hand by Heinen. Obviously it has affect to his balance when he was preparing the upcoming shot.
NHL needs to hard reset the officials. These guys should never ref a playoff series again. Edit: After last nights Dallas game. wow. It’s the league. Not the officials
It’s just crazy bc being a ref technically is their “job” it’s jus a lil side gig that they do since it’s a seasonal thing most of them got actual jobs so they don’t really care if they officiate correctly bc they got a way better paying job
I love how the NHL took a bunch of power away from the officials and then instituted fines and after game review suspensions then decided to eff off on that too so now the game is unofficiated when it matters and over officiated when it doesn't
The situation room also said, Bob’s stick was outside the crease and knocked out of his hand by his own teammates stick. That’s why the goal was allowed. I thought they got it right tonight. Also Monty’s mock of Bennett diving for a call was hilarious.
I think that’s fair. And the goaltender interference goal that was allowed the last game, shouldn’t have. And as cliche as it is, nobody can deny that the officiating has benefited one team over the other in this series. I don’t care what team it is, it can be a team that I hate for all I care, I want fair and balanced officiating over anything else. If a bad call was going to benefit my favourite team, I would prefer a good call instead. Hockey is a game, and the game is no fun if it’s not fair. Not for the players playing it. Not for the fans watching it. If one team wins due to bad, biased, preferential officiating, I consider it a loss for the entire league.
My thought was that Bob was going the wrong way and the puck came in on the side opposite any contact. Bob wasn't impeded in my view because that puck came in on the free side and Bob's stick was knocked loose by his teammate. I also think Toronto knows they screwed the pooch against Boston in that last game, so make of that what you will.
Directly? No, but DONT be fooled if u think betteman doesn’t have a say in the overall outcome of the entire season: from suspensions or lack thereof, to garbage scheduling sometimes with back to backs for the traveling team when the home team sits and waits, to that God awful situation in Arizona, let alone all the lockouts that costs some players their best years
The Florida defenseman knocked Bob’s stick out of his hand, not the Boston player. There was minimal contact between the Boston player and Bob, but had had time to reset. Good no call.
I don't necessarily disagree, but it's amazing how the same fans see "minimal" contact here but a "brutal crosscheck" by Bennet". Neither was Goalie interference. It's hockey not soccer.
I thought Bob reacted that way because his stick was knocked out of his hands. The only problem is that it was his own player who knocked his stick out.
If you watched the game live they did show it from a few different POV's and it didn't look like Heinen even touched Bobrovsky other than the stick bump. However, it was his own teammates stick that knocked Bob's stick out of his hand and Heinens left skate from another POV didn't even make contact with Bobs right skate if I remember correctly. That and big Bob came out of the blue paint so any contact made after the red line is his own fault really. Not a Boston or Florida fan but I'm glad Boston got to keep this goal tonight.
All they care about is rapid expansion and dilution/spreading of talent to maintain sustainability of teams for the sake of markets not competition and of course their side gambling business. The NHL has gone to shit. The players are girly, their commentators are female, and their in-between content is fruity. Just another corporate culture built on cancer
Walking into this game, Florida had over 20 power-play opportunities in the first four games to Boston’s maybe 10 you’re looking at two times as many power-play opportunities for Florida. You can say what you want, but has been tilted towards Florida and it’s very obvious goals have been called goals have been allowed shouldn’t have been allowed. Hit the nail on the head was bringing up the issue with the sucker punch. but it’s obvious how tilted the series is bad and they say it’s lazy that the Bruins are blaming the reps. It’s really not because it’s obvious and it’s not just Bruins fans saying that there’s a lot of other fans of other teams saying the same thing.
I remember the playoffs a few years ago where Tuukka Rask lost his skate blade, refs dodnt blow it dead the opponent scored and Tuukka went vintage Tuukka and boomerang chucked the blade across the rink....make it make sense
I keep seeing people talk about his stick knocking bob off, but his stick is in perfect position and not touching the goalie let alone flexing until Ekman-Larson locks skates with Heinen. Heinen is completely entitled to that ice and if OEL wants to make contact that is on him. you can see this at 2:13, there is no contact from Heinen with Bob until contact is initiated by OEL with Heinen.
Yeah, they're was a split second when Bob looked like he may have been stung/hurt, but he recovered quickly. The ref blew his whistle as soon as he saw that slit second. Real quick whistle
cause Boston had heavy pressure, the refs dont want them to score, it was a whistle for a blocker save, the 87 time of favortism shown to the Panthers in this series
I’m surprised they didn’t call interference anyway bc a Bruin might’ve looked at Bob in a threatening manner especially after stopping play to check on him after he gets hit in the shoulder by a puck.
I used to think that about officiating until the 2019 playoffs. Never seen the NHL apologize for a call before. Never saw the refs completely fail to call any penalties on another team (STL in game 5). This FLA-BOS series is intense, but it hasn't reached that level yet.
Yeah that 2019 series was horrendous whenever it gets brought up the only thing I ever mention or even really remember is how terrible the officiating was
Carter Verhaeghe high sticked Wotherspoon and then McAvoy within 2 seconds. Never seen something like it. The puck was right there but there were no calls. Fucking crazy to see
Dude I thought I was crazy when I saw this cuz the ref was literally standing right there watching the whole thing and never put his arm up. I had to rub check my eyes and everything haha.
@@davidrobinson3154 It is clear the NHL wants Florida in the playoffs vs someone in the West... Vegas being eliminated foiled many top brass in NHL, so they are doubling their influence in the East.
It appears that the only safe play around the crease is to push or crosscheck the opposing player into the goalie. Then you can score into an empty net. If that doesn't work then just hold the player and push him into the goalie to draw the interference call on the potential goal scorer. Officiating in the Bruins Panthers series is a dumpster fire.
Chuck has been BY FAR the worst player in the playoffs, BY FAR and I have been a Bruins fan for 50 years, Horrible play in every game. he should have been a healthy scratch after game 2
Also very very different than Charlie coyle getting crosschecked onto Sway last game. Bruins are getting utterly WORKED over by the refs in this series and they've somehow stayed alive
He dropped his stick because his own player was lifting it and it was better to get the blocker in position without the stick, than have your entire arm lifted out of position.
As a bruins fan, I am not gonna cry about the obvious missed goalie interference call in game 4, but I am also not even close to being able to listen to any complaining about that supposed no call. That’s absurd, he had a clear view of the puck and wasn’t even screened, he just missed it
I hurt my throat screaming at the TV when Bob got hit by the puck and they blew it dead WITH THE BRUINS HAVING POSESSION. You have to be bleeding or in agony for the refs to blow the whistle, but these refs in this series are insane.
As a Bruins fan I’m so glad to see someone as unbiased as Eck, so many people just hate the Bruins, understandably, and they let it cloud their judgement so much. Eck doesn’t let bias get in the way of the way he interprets things.
Obviously I'm a biased Bruins fan, but if Bobrovsky was interfered with, it was his own teammate that hooked the stick out of his hands. Heinen did a good job of avoiding contact, and Bobrovsky appears to be outside the blue paint as well.
Absolutely absurd that they stopped that play just because Pobrovsky reached towards his chest and ventured out from his goal. Lindholm messed up the shot, but there still would be a loose puck for a rebound that Bob still would have trouble getting back in goal to stop. He missplayed that shot, and the refs rewarded him for it. Thankfully, they didn't reward him for dropping his stick when his own defender hit him.
I mean the NHL basically said that Sam Bennett's crosscheck wasn't enough. So Heinen's brush of the pads isn't enough but we all know the NHL lack any consistency.
this was soft interference so if they called it a no-goal after last games hard-interference was deemed a good goal it would've been absolute non-sense and i fully expected the NHL to go that route, cause thats what they do 😂
The Florida goal should’ve been called back, and I hate the optics of the Boston goal counting and people say it’s a “make up call”, the situations were completely different. Happy this series will continue on into TD Garden though, it gives me a chance to win tickets on the radio haha
my favorite statement that I appreciate especially with you being a rangers fan having skin in the game, "to suggest the refs are favoring one team, I do not buy it... but officiating is questionable" paraphrased, but - this x1000. Cheers man, great unbiased vids, and best of luck to the rangers as a lifelong hawks fan / NYC transplant. Will always love the breadman
This tbh, I can see the argument, I don't agree with it, but even if any of the refs did think it was interference, it honestly would not have been wise to call it that after the Swayman debacle
@@brandontong759 I'm... not saying they are? I'm saying if they called that interference which was much more arguable after not calling the one on Swayman it would make it obvious that there was unfair reffing going on
@@brandontong759 I am not a Bruins fan in any sense, but the last game there was goalie interference that was not called. There have been other questionable calls between last year and this year's playoffs that have gone in favor of the Panthers.
Most goals should probably count. It should need to be clear interference, like in the previous game. On this one Heinen touched Bobo early but, his own guy knocked the stick out of his hand and that makes any other contact look way worse.
Boston was lifeless in game 3 against the leafs. Macavoy pulls down matthews behind the net no call. Absolutely impossible there’s no call. Right after that in the same sequence Marchand retaliates against bertuzzi in the middle of the ice. No call. This is all on the road. The retaliator has always gotten the penalty. Boston scores right after and finally had life in that game. Boston looked horrendous in that game until that point. The refs easily caused Boston to win that game 3. So don’t cry about it.
Man the officiating for the first round when they were going against the lighting was absolutely horrible. Out of all the games they had they had only 2 fair games. Not saying the lighting would've won that series but they definitely would've had a longer series If it weren't for so many BS calls
You forgot to show the Carter Verhaeghe high sticks to 2 bruins defenders, that were literally right in front of an official who was staring right at it. We need a compilation of all the calls favoring the dirty panthers. They have almost double the amount of power plays, how can this happen to the most penalized team in the regular season?
@@yankeessucky2z you’re the one making the excuse, you’re complaining that Panthers getting too many power plays and making it sound like it’s costing Bruins the series. Panthers proved that even when another team has double the power plays, they still find a way to win.
@@xNanoSwinex congrats on rooting for the dirtiest team in hockey, you didn’t even know what hockey was till last season. Take your blinders off and you know this series has been officiated terribly. Tampa is old and soft, no one is impressed
@@yankeessucky2z you’re a funny guy, seems like a new Bruins fan too. You’re just upset your dirtiest player got a taste of his own medicine. Bruins and Marchand have lead by example being a dirty team for years and now you can’t handle getting roughed up by another team.
This league is getting closer and closer to having players not allowed in the crease like lacrosse with people forgetting what goalie interference is all of a sudden thinking every little nudge is an impairment. It’s starting to get annoying.
It was like that in the late 90s early 2000s. You couldn't be in the crease at all. Dallas lost a series when a goal hot taken back over toe being in away grom the goalie. Definitely don't want that back
@@therecalcitrantseditionist3613 And Buffalo lost the 1999 Stanley Cup to the aforementioned Stars because Brett Hull’s skate was in the crease and his OT goal won them the Cup in controversial fashion.
@@johnnyroberts3761I’m pretty sure that was when the rule was changed. I remember staying up watching that game and everyone was exhausted, players, refs, fans, everyone. It was basically two whole games played. It was something like 5 mins off from being two whole games. School was not fun the next day for me so dang tired. I moved to Buffalo a few years after that game and they were still salty about it. I get it though it shouldn’t have been a goal with the rules but when you are that tired I get why they called it a goal.
Bruins fan here. Fully expected that 2nd goal to come off the board. I agreed with you. It’s borderline. Could have gone either way, the fact that it stood makes it seem like a makeup call. I still hate that. There were at least 5 other occurrences in this game you could point to and say, WTF game is this ref watching? Florida penalties included. It’s like a HS ref trying to find penalties to make it seem fair, but they’re not watching what’s actually happening. It’s insane. It didn’t even feel like a win last night.
In the stanley cup finals of 2022, Game 4, Kuemper got his mask knocked off and play wasn't called dead. He had to try to make the save without a helmet. The fact that they blew this dead blew my mind.
we have to win our series first before we start thinking about who we want to play next. we've let it slip far enough, but lets be real, its going to come down to game 7. we are not going to be able to go into raleigh and combat that crowd and our own lack of ability to adjust to adversity. we're going to get our asses handed to us thursday, but we have to get our shit together for game 7
News Flash : Bobrowski was supposed to be just putting on his pads and not listening to the coaches pregame speech about Diving, Flopping , and dropping the stick when you feel the slightest touch to try to cheaply win the game
@@thisandthat603 Bzzzt!!! Referees drop the puck at the start of the game, after every goal and the start of every period...linesmen handle icings, off sidessss, penalty stoppages and out of plays
The rule that best sums up the NHL regulations for me is the “if high sticking draws blood it’s a double minor”. That arbitrary nature of rule application can be found all over the place. You can have an insanely bad hit that could crack you jaw WITHOUT drawing blood, or have a tiny scratch that does. Why the mere presence of blood makes it a double minor baffles my mind.
@@thatonewriter8043 yes I agree but I’m saying this is emblematic of the way NHL rules are written. They need to decide whether it’s the action OR the consequences that determines the penalty. For example on the goal tender interference, part of it seems to be action based “if the goal tender is blocked in anyway”, but part of it is also consequence based “if it prevents the goalie from making a save”. They need to definitively decide one way or the other cause right now everything seems to be up to ref discretion even in cases where the rules are clearly “x is a penalty” like you mentioned with the McDavid Hughes thing. But because there is some grey area for some rules I think refs don’t actually understand when their discretion is required, so it should be removed entirely. High stick should always be just a minor, goal tender interference should result in a no goal whether or not it seems like it actually materially impacted the ability to make a save. Cross checking needs to always just be called regardless of consequences. This is the only way to make it fair and to remove ref bias. The worst is roughing because it seems to be completely up to the individual ref what is considered roughing. The fact that nothing between Bertuzzi and Marchand was called roughing in that game is a perfect example, plenty of other games where refs called very similar things roughing. I think if two players , neither of which have puck possession, make contact more than one time (so more than a bump/shove) that should automatically be roughing on the aggressor, or both of them if they are both antagonistic. Also, the NHL really needs to institute retroactive penalties. In cases like the Sam Bennet head punch of Marchand or the McAvoy takedown of Matthews or your example of McDavid high sticking Hughes, when they are reviewed during the game and it’s so blatantly obvious the call was missed, just award the power play at that moment, what does it matter it’s a few minutes later it doesn’t effect anything. The team should have had a penalty give them one.
that and chopping down on a stick and it breaks = automatic slash. or puck deflects off your stick and out of play while in your own zone and its auto delay of game
@@macseamus835 yeah exactly, people will say “oh itl delay the games” no it won’t lol. As soon as players realize they are getting penalties left and right they’ll stop doing it or their coaches will make the stop doing it. It will speed up the game because their will be less fighting during every stoppage of play out of fear of drawing penalties.
Pretty sure the game you’re thinking of was the Oilers vs Rangers in December. That play was stoped because the shot caused Skinners helmet to get lose/ fall off from what I remember. Bob making a shoulder save shouldn’t stop a play
I remember seeing a post once about how someone on Tinder was screening potential dates by asking them what they think about goalie interference penalties. 90% of them just instantly said "it's all bullshit" and in this series I'm inclined to believe them.
No goalie interference in the last part of your clip. It was incidental contact skate to skate on Bobrovsky’s right foot which didn’t impair his ability to move to his left.
Complaints about officiating aren’t some snide comments about how one team deserved to win. It’s about the rules of the game. Specifically, I ask, at what point do Referees get suspended or fired for making calls that aren’t simple mistakes, but deliberately calculated decision to alter the natural outcome of the game?
In the seventies Montreal vs Boston, Ken Dryden had his goalie mask tore off. The play continued, and Boston scored no controversy no review just a goal! The NHL suffers from so many inconsistencies among the officiating.
Panthers fan here, it was a good goal tonight. Bruins played with desperation and a whole lot more discipline. We don’t complain about this. Play hard no matter what. Absolutely need to close the series out no matter what the refs call or don’t call
Only 2 series have gone 7 games so far in this year’s playoffs. 5/8 were over in 5 or less. 2nd round 3/4 series were sitting at 3-1. Refs had to do something to stretch these series out for that sweet ad revenue. Nah I’m Jk but these series have been mostly lopsided.
Technically, it should have been 3 - 1 but the refs blew the whistle when the Bruins had a completely open net - no idea why? Maybe Bob had to adjust his cup??
I agree with the no interference call last night. I do think he had time to reset, but his teammate hit his stick. It really made it look like there was no time to reset… not because of a Bruins player though.
New rule - stoppage b/c the goalie got hit by the puck means the goalie is "ejected" and cannot come back that game. After all, if it's a "safety issue", then everyone should agree.
The way the crease works has changed over the years and if a common sense and consistent rule were in place I'd say there might be interference. However the overhead shot shows that Bob does square himself in plenty of time and the way the rule (seems) to function, that was key. I mean, if not, then I could bump a goalie and then 10 seconds later have a goal called back, playing devil's advocate.
As a Cats fan, that's a good goal from McAvoy. That having been said, I would almost be interested to see an alternate reality where there was more interference on that play JUST to see what the refs and the league would have to say about it. I have a sneaking suspicion that there wouldn't be an overturned Boston goal in this series anymore unless there is something blatant. I have never seen officiating this bad, and while everyone knows about it primarily as to how its impacted the Bruins, there have also been shit calls against the Cats, just not nearly as impactful. Hopefully the next game is the last one and it's a clean game.
No matter how bad the officiating gets, I'll *NEVER wish for those days again. Andy Van Hellemond was a clownshow. I'll never forget sitting behind the goal at Met Center, circa 1988 or so. Play comes around the boards and moves up ice. Last guy to circle the net and head out is Basil McRae. STL goalie sees #17 skating away, literally JUMPS into the air, dropping his stick to make noise. Van Hellemond, following the play, turns at the sound, sees Bas skating away from a downed goalie, and calls an Interference penalty. McRae was like 15ft away from the goalie when he dove. How Van Hellemond went on to be IN CHARGE of all NHL Officials is beyond me. So, yeah, officiating still sucks. But not like it did in the 80s.
From a fan standpoint I think the Heinen 'interference' argument is one of those that depends on which team you root for. One of those "What game are you watching Ref?!" But it it happened to your team, you'd want a suspension...
No doubt the officiating has been questionable in the NHL playoffs, but it isn’t anywhere as bad as the officiating in the NBA playoffs. This is also why the NHL playoffs has been so much better than the NBA playoffs in the last 3 years.
As a bruins fan i honestly wouldnt have been mad if that was called goalie interference without the context of bennetts goal being allowed, but if they had called that back i honestly wouldve punched a hole in my wall lmao. Most nerve wracking moment of the series for me when they were reviewing that. It was 100% a makeup call, which looks terrible for the league no matter how you look at it.
@@thisandthat603 I think it's likely the league considered how much more damaging to the league were it to reverse that goal. They already deal with make up calls; real or imagined. At the end of the day, the players are supposed to decide games not the damned refs which is what the league is probably trying have happen. For what it's worth, the make up calls used to be far, far worse so there has been improvement in that area.
I listened to the game live so i only just saw that stoppage when bob stopped the shot with his shoulder and lol they didn't explain on the radio just how far away the puck went. I thought the refs lost sight and the puck was close by bob.
The amount of goaltender interference calls made on and for the panthers and have gone in favor of them this playoffs is wild and seems incredibly unfair. Glad to see it didn’t work this time.
They did this in Dallas game when the dallas player hit the boards and fell down on his own. The Avs were on a breakaway and they stopped play like wtf
Goaltender interference just needs to be reworked. You can fart in the direction of a goalie and they'll call you for it. It's soft, the way it currently is. And it's playoff hockey, give them a little more leash.
To even argue that’s goaltender interference is ridiculous. The Florida defenseman knocked the stick out of the goalies hand. To call this interference would punish the bruins for the panthers mistake. He wasn’t impaired, it wasn’t close
@Eck Are you going to post about the IIHF World Championship in Prague? Austria is doing some insane plays, scored 5 goals against Canada in 3rd period to tie the game and lost in OT and won against Finland in today's match with a goal in the last second of the game.
Your video is missing the main point. “THE SITUATION ROOM & PLAYER SAFETY ARE IN TORONTO, BRUINS HAVE DOMINATED TORONTO, A MAJORITY OF NHL PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS GREW UP MAPLE LEAFS FANS.” If these situations happened to the Leafs, they would have got all three calls. The NHL needs a separate situation room to avoid bias and they need to deploy artificial intelligence where they take what the situation determines is correct for the leafs and applies it evenly. Also it double checks the decisions they make on the leafs to be sure they haven’t ruled differently against the 31 other teams before.
I'm a Bruins fan and Leafs hater and this is the dumbest reasoning I've seen yet. The NHL absolutely does not favor Toronto at least no where near to the extent that Florida has been benefiting from it here. I would say that the reffing in the Bruins vs Leafs series was absolutely atrocious both ways and both teams were rightfully salty about specific calls but I don't think it was anywhere near the same level as this series has been. This series has gone beyond the normal "I don't like this but it could just be incompetence" feeling to "this is shady".
Honestly this play should not be goaltender int. for the following reasons: 1. Bob has time to reset himself 2. contact is minimal 3. contact is also caused by the D OEL and affects the other side where the goal is scored 4. stick is lost due to defenders stick contact 5. Bob is kinda on the edge of the blue, later on outside of the blue 6. it`s a physical sport, that little bit of contact on the right pad and skate at the edge of the blue and outside of it - just look where Bob is - shouldn`t be called. The main point is that OEL knocks his own goalies stick away, and i think that distracts Bob the most. The issue is, we have seen this scenes 100 times this year, and 99 of them have been called for goalie int. So it`s inconsistent and nobody nowadays has an idea what goalie int actually is and when it`s called. It`s a big issue in the league and i don`t know when it`s called and when not.
To be honest, I didn't think that "goaltender interference" was as bad as the one in Game 4. That said, if they call the one in Game 4, they probably call the one in Game 5 goaltender interference as well.
For the clear mistakes I am hoping we get AI refs However, in order for even that to work the NHL has to decide what goaltender interference is. We don't a repeat of the zero tolerance skate in the crease rule of 1998-99 that seemed to be changed during overtime of game six that year. For the Bennett play (and not the one where he punches Marchand in the head and gets away with it) he (lightly) cross-checks Charlie Coyle into Swayman that has to at least be a disallowed goal, if not a penalty (I, myself, don't think it warrants a penalty, just a whistle), as this removed Coyle from being able to play the puck, but most importantly removed any chance of Swayman making a safe. It doesn't matter if you think Swayman will not be able to make the save. However, as with any rule, players will then attempt to abuse it. If any contact with the goaltender means the goal is disallowed, then defenders will throw themselves into their goalie hoping to get a whistle and prevent a goal. If Bennett and Coyle had jostled resulting in Coyle with his back to number 9 falling into his netminder then that seems like a hockey play. I hope that while the NHL would likely prefer Florida to Boston for marketing reasons, I hope that has not permeated down to the officials. I think, if there is any bias, it possibly comes from officials from, say Ontario, trying to overcompensate for any perceived hometown bias, by calling against Toronto in this case. Or in the case of the ref from Richmond, BC, who has never overseen a Canucks win even after being a referee during the Sedin era, I suspect inadvertent biased refereeing might be occurring. And I also hope that the takeover of the sport by sports gambling doesn't insert itself into the game's umpires.
Boston still alive. Though it looks like they're clinging to life for this game, hope they look a little more confident next game. Also finally McAvoy did something, he's looked.... Not great these playoffs
Shots can go off mask, but if one of the buckles come loose or the mask fails then by the rules the play is whistled dead
Also I remember first year Vegas was in the league a player snapped his stick on Helleybucks mask before a goal went in and they said it was a good goal.
I think i was so mad at this play that I deleted it from memory. Thank you for reminding us of that. Poor Helly.
The stoppage for the goalie getting hit by a puck was absolutely absurd. I have no idea what that could be
If a ref sees that a shot injures a goalie (neck/collarbone/head area usually), they are to blow the whistle right then to stop play. That ref blew that whistle real quick bc for a split second it looked like Bob was hurting in the neck area from the shot. A split second. Really quick whistle
The only time the play is supposed to be stopped is if the goaltenders mask is losened or comes off.
@adamleblanc5294 yeah, if you're watching that live and at high-speed you could think that his glove is up around his throat after the shot.
Jim Montgomery’s reaction make it all worth it 😂
I love him, he’s got a great personality. Reminds me of Claude Julien (a more pr friendly one)
Dude him letting the refs HAVE IT on the coaches challenge in Quebecois last game was amazing. He's been an excellent coach this playoff run so far.
Florida is diving and headsnapping us all to death, and the refs are lapping it up. Disgustingly one sided reffing here. NO QUESTION, if you disagree, go watch another sport because you dont understand hockey. Terribly one sided
@@DiamondKingVideosi dont know hes choked so many playoff runs its unbelievable
I think that it was called a goal because Bob got back into his stance and was somewhat ready for the shot. It also appeared that (at least to me) he would have been fully ready if OEL didn’t knock his stick out.
Agreed, it was also shot right over his gloved hand he has set to defend
His stick was also outside the crease and knocked out of his hand by his own team. That’s what the situation room said, when ESPN asked for clarification.
I think it would be fair if you called this a goal and disallowed the allowed goal from the previous game for goaltender interference.
@@JesusFriedChrist Yeah, not exactly sure what the refs and the situation room saw in the Bennett goal to allow it.
Like a bunch of Angel Hernandez’ on skates
@@Andy_Babb😂😂
NHL officiating ruins the playoffs for me. Unwatchable unless I just want to jack up my blood pressure
@ScottStenlund this was Toronto’s explanation. Don’t like it, take it up with them. 🤷🏻♀️
He literally squared up and reset his stance. Side to sode movement not impaired at all after reseting. Good goal
my thought also
I think that’s fair.
I also think Toronto knows they screwed the pooch against Boston in that last game, so make of that what you will.
yes, but in a game of milliseconds, that "reset" cost them the game. BS call
@Jessekarey the Panthers inconsistent play and turnovers cost them the game.
Nothing will ever change in this damn league until Bettman is gone. He's a cancer.
The owners have made more money under him than ever before. Fans hate him, owners love him. He’s not going anywhere, unfortunately.
As if Bettman is whispering to their ear to make these calls? That's a weak argument.

Directly? No, but DONT be fooled if u think betteman doesn’t have a say in the overall outcome of the entire season: from suspensions or lack thereof, to garbage scheduling sometimes with back to backs for the traveling team when the home team sits and waits, to that God awful situation in Arizona, let alone all the lockouts that costs some players their best years
Sunbelt Bettman. Florida have gotten all the calls in this series. Period.
The Florida defenseman knocked Bob’s stick out of his hand, not the Boston player. There was minimal contact between the Boston player and Bob, but had had time to reset. Good no call.
The Boston player took his skate out
@ryanloparo4449 And then the goalie reset. Then had his stick knocked away by his own D. And..
Took his skate out lol, the embellishment is getting out of hand. It's a contact sport.
I don't necessarily disagree, but it's amazing how the same fans see "minimal" contact here but a "brutal crosscheck" by Bennet". Neither was Goalie interference. It's hockey not soccer.
💯 can’t believe no one else is seeing this
I thought Bob reacted that way because his stick was knocked out of his hands. The only problem is that it was his own player who knocked his stick out.
I thought he reacted that way because he thought he had the puck tied up.
@@707x-y6s I thought he figured the whistle was about to blow
If you watched the game live they did show it from a few different POV's and it didn't look like Heinen even touched Bobrovsky other than the stick bump. However, it was his own teammates stick that knocked Bob's stick out of his hand and Heinens left skate from another POV didn't even make contact with Bobs right skate if I remember correctly. That and big Bob came out of the blue paint so any contact made after the red line is his own fault really. Not a Boston or Florida fan but I'm glad Boston got to keep this goal tonight.
The nhl has lost control of the nhl
All they care about is rapid expansion and dilution/spreading of talent to maintain sustainability of teams for the sake of markets not competition and of course their side gambling business. The NHL has gone to shit. The players are girly, their commentators are female, and their in-between content is fruity. Just another corporate culture built on cancer
Winner of the Internet (well, for "yesterday"...b/c I just saw it. Come on, folks. The internet is expanding faster than my waistline!)

When the play was stopped because Bob got hit by a puck, I texted my friend and asked why they stopped? Total BS call.
Yeah, they're was a split second when Bob looked like he may have been stung/hurt, but he recovered quickly. The ref blew his whistle as soon as he saw that slit second. Real quick whistle
*there
That could have resulted in the game winner, he was so far out of position for any follow up
What did he text back ?
cause Boston had heavy pressure, the refs dont want them to score, it was a whistle for a blocker save, the 87 time of favortism shown to the Panthers in this series
Ive watched every minute of this series. The officials have no business being NHL officials, just ridiculous.
I’m surprised they didn’t call interference anyway bc a Bruin might’ve looked at Bob in a threatening manner especially after stopping play to check on him after he gets hit in the shoulder by a puck.
Goaltender interference by Ekman-Larsson, so it’s surprising Marchand didn’t get 5 and a game for it!
As an Oilers fan, this is definitely NOT goalie interference lol😂
I used to think that about officiating until the 2019 playoffs. Never seen the NHL apologize for a call before. Never saw the refs completely fail to call any penalties on another team (STL in game 5). This FLA-BOS series is intense, but it hasn't reached that level yet.
Yeah that 2019 series was horrendous whenever it gets brought up the only thing I ever mention or even really remember is how terrible the officiating was
Carter Verhaeghe high sticked Wotherspoon and then McAvoy within 2 seconds. Never seen something like it. The puck was right there but there were no calls. Fucking crazy to see
And, the ref was watching the entire time. How in the world does Florida get away with that?
Dude I thought I was crazy when I saw this cuz the ref was literally standing right there watching the whole thing and never put his arm up. I had to rub check my eyes and everything haha.
Maybe they need more female representation or other DEI to improve the officiating.
McAvoy literally dove head first to get a piece of that stick trying to get a call out of that lol

I thought they got this one right. OEL knocked the stick out of Bobrovsky's hands. Hundreads of call per season, they've got to get a few right🤣
It appears that the only safe play around the crease is to push or crosscheck the opposing player into the goalie. Then you can score into an empty net. If that doesn't work then just hold the player and push him into the goalie to draw the interference call on the potential goal scorer. Officiating in the Bruins Panthers series is a dumpster fire.
Looked like a goal… the one the other night? How do you not call that goalie interference?
The only thing worth talking about here is how freakin' sweet that snipe by Chuck was ! The B's live, even it up on Friday. Why not ?
Chuck has been BY FAR the worst player in the playoffs, BY FAR and I have been a Bruins fan for 50 years, Horrible play in every game. he should have been a healthy scratch after game 2
Bob dropped his stick to try to draw an interference call. This call was ultimately made correctly.
It did look like he dropped it deliberately!
He drops his stick when he has traffic around him. Trying to draw calls. No goalie loses his stick more than this guy.
As a bruins fan, I am not gonna cry about the obvious missed goalie interference call in game 4, but I am also not even close to being able to listen to any complaining about that supposed no call. That’s absurd, he had a clear view of the puck and wasn’t even screened, he just missed it
Am I the only one that sees Bob literally opening his hand and dropping his stick?
I hurt my throat screaming at the TV when Bob got hit by the puck and they blew it dead WITH THE BRUINS HAVING POSESSION. You have to be bleeding or in agony for the refs to blow the whistle, but these refs in this series are insane.
I think if the refs at the end of the game were to answer questions from the media for there accountability the games would be better.
So Heinen's brush of the pads isn't enough but we all know the NHL lack any consistency.
this was soft interference so if they called it a no-goal after last games hard-interference was deemed a good goal it would've been absolute non-sense and i fully expected the NHL to go that route, cause thats what they do 😂
Wasn't even GI lol. Florida interfered with his own goalie.
The Florida goal should’ve been called back, and I hate the optics of the Boston goal counting and people say it’s a “make up call”, the situations were completely different. Happy this series will continue on into TD Garden though, it gives me a chance to win tickets on the radio haha

And yet, Connor McDavid is above that rule anyway, or Quinn Hughes is an exception. The refs are awful all over the place. I hate it so much.
For the goalie interference he was directed into the goalie after trying to turn away and goalies stick was out of the blue so it’s a good goal
And hit by his own player so it makes it even more a point to it being a good call.
I don't want boston to win but thats a goal right there, no interference
I'm a bruins fan and the officiating being bad is exactly what leads to questions like this.
The calls in this game where insane.
I’ll never forget Tuka not getting the stoppage call for a skate blade coming off. Dạh, easy call when the goalie can’t skate.

I was honestly just hoping that the goal got called back just to see social media in absolute chaos...
The thing that gets me is that it’s bob’s own teammate that knocks his stick out of his hand and everyone is still screaming goalie interference….
Technically, it should have been 3 - 1 but the refs blew the whistle when the Bruins had a completely open net - no idea why? Maybe Bob had to adjust his cup??
I feel like if they called this one no goal it wouldve made the anger from fans about last game a hundred times worse
Jim Montgomery doing his best rock bottom impression was hilarious
I agree with the no interference call last night. I do think he had time to reset, but his teammate hit his stick. It really made it look like there was no time to reset… not because of a Bruins player though.
I don't know, but Jim Montgomery going nuts on the bench all night was hilarious. Then he did the other weird head shake eye roll thing too.
Looks like he just drops his own goalie stick.
It's pretty bad when I yearn for the days of Andy Van Hellemund and Kerry Fasier referee's.
Frasier, however, gets a pass for his hair. Never needed a helmet (I know he wore one eventually) because his hair magically protected him.
Bad officiating in the NHL and NBA, what do these leages have in common......Gary Betman.
Its not a make up call, he was not interfered with so theres no way they could have called it that way.
The NHL would call that goalie interference 9.9 times out of ten. To justify not calling it just shows how the NHL is full of it
The amount of goaltender interference calls made on and for the panthers and have gone in favor of them this playoffs is wild and seems incredibly unfair. Glad to see it didn’t work this time.
Who are the refs in this game and last game?
Garbage, that's who
steve kazari or something like that=AKA bettmans bum boy who follows orders
It's brutal, being stuck at work and not being able to watch games like this when they happen
I never was a Bruins fan. Actually don't like them. But Florida is pretty chippy. Cheering for Bruins now.
@Eck Are you going to post about the IIHF World Championship in Prague? Austria is doing some insane plays, scored 5 goals against Canada in 3rd period to tie the game and lost in OT and won against Finland in today's match with a goal in the last second of the game.
60 years of watching hockey, never seen play stopped for a goalie taking hard shot. As a former goalie, that was bullshit. Play on !
Honestly this play should not be goaltender int. for the following reasons:
1. Bob has time to reset himself
2. contact is minimal
3. contact is also caused by the D OEL and affects the other side where the goal is scored
4. stick is lost due to defenders stick contact
5. Bob is kinda on the edge of the blue, later on outside of the blue
6. it`s a physical sport, that little bit of contact on the right pad and skate at the edge of the blue and outside of it - just look where Bob is - shouldn`t be called.
I think Bob believed, in the instant his stick was whacked out of his hand, that it was Heinen that did it not OEL, and was trying to buy a call...
