I think Joan Monne, the arranger of so very many of these excellent pieces, should get a lot more recognition. The arrangements are always so good, and so crucial to the overall quality of the music. My hat's off to Joan Monne!

I can close my eyes and imagine it to be the 1940's, and this beautiful young charming lady comes out from the right wing on to the stage. There is a killer big band like Benny's, Harry's, Artie's, Woody's, Count's, etc.all preped and ready, taking their places behind her on the stage. The engineer has the set up ready to record a transcription for the Armed Forces radio service to produce another V Disk to send over the big pond to give our men a little diversion from the daily grinds of war. The down beat has been counted, the red light is on, she steps up to the microphone, opens her mouth, and there is this voice...sweet and low, a bit dark and husky, sorrowful with a thread of pain, genuine and real, and painted with a background of deep blue.emotions...this voice, this voice!
Alba is a brilliant shooting star, climbing higher and higher in the heavens, shot from Joan Chamorro's cannon. And the rest of us mere mortals can just watch and be glad that were born in time to be able to witness such a sight! Great solo by Marçal, by the way, and an outstanding arrangement by Joan Monné.
Alba has a natural talent for singing jazz .I`m grateful that the sound of SAJB:s videos is so good these days so one can hear the vocalist very bright.Don`t forget the saxophone-section ,BRAVO !
They have to, not to fall behind! Here, I love Marcal's solo a tad more for the inclusion in the song than Joe's. OTOH, it must be a pleasure to play with these young veterans, their professionality and their engagement!
I like that the vocalist, in spite of so many musicians around her, listens carefully to her every note and ensures that she doesn't fall off pitch. This girl's going places.
@@alfching2499, actually Diana Krall CAN sing. She also delivers a song in a way that's appealingly different. And she does it at the same time as she plays piano at a virtuoso level. Never, ever overlook that Krall knows what she's doing and accordingly she makes the cash register ring incessantly.
@@hawsug4614 There is a huge difference between Alba (and Andrea, and Eva, and Rita, and Elia...) and most, if not all other singers, in that they are consumate masters of restraint. Even a singer like Diana Krall uses vibrato perhaps too much. If it is to be used at all, listen to Mel Torme in his later years or some of Michael Buble to see how it should be used, as an ornament. Though not a singer, I am fairly certain it takes more control to hold a note steady than to allow vibrato to take over, unless it is added as an ornament at the end of a sustained note. But, to my great pleasure, Joan's proteges don't do this, `pure' is the word most people seem to use to describe their voices, their singing style.
@@noelhunt4732 Holding a note steady as opposed to adding end vibrato is indeed more difficult. None of them dive into notes constantly, either. They move to the notes right and use slides, bends, and melisma for effect, not as a a constant go to. You can also see very accurate mouth and microphone usage. Whoever their vocal teacher is is solid!
@@crimfan I think Astrud Gilberto uses some or all of those techniques you mention; certainly the sliding was pointed out to me 40 years ago by an opera-trained singer acquaintance who was listening to one of her recordings I was playing. This is why I really think these girls/young women singers from Barcelona are just superb. Since you seem to know something about singing, what is your opinion of Marion Montgomery? (For reference, 'Why can't you behave?', on youtube.)
To Alba; my dear, I believe you were channeling Ms. Holiday, herself with this piece. You have your own beautiful song style but I heard that signature Holiday tremolo you sneaked in there. I'm sure Billie is smiling at your performance. To Joan C. It warms my heart to see these young people keeping this music alive. I'm only sad that a truly American born music genera is slowly disappearing in America to make way for computer generated war drums. Thank you for your efforts to teach and direct these young artists. To Joe M. ... nice! Smiles and goose bumps for all!
Outstanding!!!!!! Alba, your voice is incredible. The more I hear you the more I want to hear. And of course the band is super as usual. Thank you all for gifting us with your talent.
Mowing the lawn last week, I came up with lyrics for a new song. And, just about the time I finished, I realized that it would rhythmically fit right on top of this song. AND, I knew who put that tune on a loop in my head. Another revelation is that Alba could incorporate this into her quartet's playlist. Marçal already has a solo; she's a fine trumpeter herself.
Alba Armengou sings this song perfectly 👍. Love your deep Bass Joan Chamorro ❤️. Hello to Èlia Bestida, Joana Casanova, and the amazing Alba Esteban and everyone else. Perfectly executed another MASTER PIECE BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏✌️
Merveilleux !
So nice! Alba has seems to be really refining her vocal technique. She sounds like she's feeling fully confident, and you can feel it. And of course, the entire group sounds wonderful.
I agree. So amazing how young musicians develop under Joan's leadership. At the rich of repeating myself (mentioned in my post above), I think the art on display here is a treasure and Joan has skills in talent development that I am sure I will never understand - But will always enjoy!
Another completely accomplished performance from everyone. Alba's voice is maturing superbly for someone still so young. I too am a Billie fan but Alba's rendition is brings a real freshness to the song. Great trumpet and sax solos too.
Alba goes from strength to strength! Along with the rest of the EXCELLENT team here, as always. Her vocal tone is just delightful and so easy on the ear. MORE!!!
That is right, but often we forget the extraordinary recordings - both sound and video that have documented the development of these musicians in a sound quality such that we eagerly seek out the next video. Kudos to the technical staff on top of all the other achievements. Congratulations from Denmark
After listening to this contribution for sure more than 25 times, I can state that Alba is the new queen of SAJB, however, you should also listen to the other Alban and her tremendously fine baritone game, a real professional

WOH!!! I cannot to figure out how you get those fabulous sound from all these young people!!! This is the best way to demonstrate that old sentence about seniors can be a very great influence in the youth. You're a genius, master Chamorro!!!
I find I'm going back time after time to songs by Alba. She is really developing into the very best singer the band has produced. She'll be another generational talent coming out of the SAJB. What a great voice, what control, what musicality
Hi Joan this young band is just getting better and better!!! It is always a pleasure to see and hear Alba sing. Her voice is maturing nicely. She has some very nice rang with her voice. She has a very bright future as a singer and Trumpet player. I'm grateful for all that you have done with these young artists GOOD LUCK

I'm impressed with how Alba is able to dive straight into her lower register and nail the pitch.
