- Learn good money habits - pay yourself first
- Learn to live within your means from early on
- Set financial goals for yourself
- Start planning for Retirement - its never too early
- Who you marry matters- have similar values and be supportive
- Invest in your growth - never stop learning, read books, take courses, listen to podcasts, further your studies if you can etc
- Take risks - don’t be afraid to fail

“Marry right” this is sooo important, I like that…I always say marriage is overrated because people look at how social media portrays “married life” and want that because of societal pressures. I think we need to strive to be content with ourselves and really be picky when choosing a life partner just as we are picky with anything we choose in life.

We get so caught trying to keep up or compete with our friends as young people that we essentially waste years of true wealth building or end up taking costly shortcuts. As they say, slow & steady wins the race.

I was actually crying while listening to this. I was never encouraged to have quality friends and invest in having a good partner until now. Am still in my 20s and realizing that those 2 things are the most important because they elevate you in every way.

I was an impulsive spender and I shopped till I dropped (till my bank account was -R0)
And I got into personal finance last year when I just came to the realization that I was getting older and still had mo money.
I just saved my first emergency fund money and hit that goal, I am now setting a new goal.
I have used my savings worth R35,000 to self educate myself with short courses that can make me money on the weekend or at night after work.
And I am slowly making from R450 -R1000 a month and as I get more experience and clients it will increase. In the mean time I will continue going to work and using my salary as a means to fund my small business.

One thing I love about you Mapula is that you are so REAL!
In as much as 20s and 30s are vital.. They are not the end of the World.. People can always change even in their 80s.. Key takeaway from this is that this period of development is good to use wisely because of the relative absence of responsibilities.. Responsibilites make self-development more difficult (but not impossible).
This means that if you don't plan to marry, it is not as vital for you as persons who wish to marry..
This being said, do not put undue pressure on yourself to be perfect or conform to society's expectations during this time.. Doing so goes against the teachings of this video.
