    I just commented on your bottom end rebuild on a ktm 300 saying I was following along… Ironic that the check oil level bolt was why I had to do all this! Stripped it out then rethreaded it and put timesert in, then I cracked the case while fighting back it all back together🥲… I misaligned the water pump rod… Moral of the story, I agree! Screw those check oil bolts!

    I have been getting increasing spooge the past few months and plug fowling, ECM was flashed last year, my first thought was crank seal but level never drops between changes. Pulled CCP sensor and oil was dripping from the inlet, swapped in a new sensor and it cleaned right up with minimal spooge so far.

    Another theory regarding the spooge.. check out the recent vid from Pinit racing, where he checks his xc for vacuum leaks using a bung in the exhaust port and the inlet boot. Applies positive pressure and uses soapy water to check for leaks. Leaks would account for bottom end bog and spooge? Akin to rich condition?

    Mine splooged bad, but a top end, a flash to updated map, or new fuel pump has cleaned my bike up. All this was originally done to find a random bog. Pretty sure it’s the fuel pump that fixed it. Someone said ktm updated the fuel pump, part number ends in 200 now. Mine is a 2023 300 xc also. Bog started at 25 hr, have 42 now.

  • @BAYAREAMX

    Hey Morgan, you’re seeing excess spooge because of the Spanish fly racing spark arrestor. Remember, you’re shortening the core and removing quite a bit of packing to install it. I also have a 23 300 XC and if I run my pro circuit shorty (no spark arrestor) It never spooges. My first ride with the stock muffler (new) with Spanish fly racing was a fast race and it spooged a lot.

    Hey Morgan, I dropped a bolt in my KTM 300 crank while doing a top end and didn’t notice. Put it together and hit the starter 5 times before realizing. Got the bolt out but now im getting gear oil into the cylinder and the oil has flakes that look like copper. Burned/spewed/lost probably 25% of my oil in 10 minutes of riding. Its bad. Does that sound like a damaged crank bearing to you? I’ve done the rod tests and don’t have any obvious signs of damage but I can’t think of anything else it could be. Maybe send to crankworks and let them inspect? Wish there was visible damage I could see but I can’t find anything yet. Seriously appreciate your videos they have helped me a ton

  • @Dasfun-f5n
    @Dasfun-f5n 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi mate, hope you have it sorted now. Question, isn’t the crank pressurised- meaning it would pushing out? Or does it suck in on the seals?

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      During the compression stroke, the piston moves up, creating a vacuum in the crankcase, which draws a fresh charge of fuel and air into the crankcase via the reed valve. During this part of the cycle if the right side crankshaft seal is leaking, transmission oil & air can also be drawn in to the crankcase from the transmission.

  • @nickstevens7369

    Why did you use a seal puller on the right side but drill the other and pry?

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. On the right side you remove a bushing and then a seal puller fits in there. On the left, there is no gap to fit a puller.

    @scottphillips445 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    How many hours did you get out of the XC300 piston and rings? It is possible that the clutch side crank bearing has play in it causing the crank seal to fail. However: if the bearing is bad you usually get gear oil burning like a forest fire

    How often do you change transmission fluid? To me, it makes no sense what answer I get from people. On the 300xc, so many will say ohhhhh don't change the piston till at least 100hrs the manual says 50hrs and ktm just wants you to buy pistons. Someone will back that up with, well lol ktm is saying that in race conditions you need to follow the 50hrs roller for pistons. Then I'll see people say oh yeah replace your transmission oil every other ride so at most 10hrs. Which makes no sense when ktm manual states 40hrs for transmission oil. So, on one end people don't change pistons because ktm is trying to get you but also change your oil way more than ktm suggest? Makes no sense. What's your rule of thumb for transmission oil?
