As a guy who always runs a Rekluse, all your assumptions were correct. Presure plate should be con-vex! the gasket and ring didn't belong in behind the slave unit. Also never run a screen type S/A in a 2t.
Good job hunting, you definately earned that money.😃
I love seeing an old school mechanic do their thing. It’s about the feel, smell, sound, and sometimes taste
You are the best! My 300tei wouldn't run. I was beside myself, trying everything. Like a dummy, I didn't check my spark arrestor. It was totally plugged. This video saved me lots of headache. Thanks!
Awesome
I just love working on other peoples bikes where you get this kind of stuff! I'll bet this guy bought this bike used and the previous owner took off the Rekluse Clutch parts and slave unit to put on his new Bike or to sell them separately.
It takes years to become a good mechanic and a far amount of humility too. Love your vids. I'm 66 and am a sell taught rider, Racer, and "Team" mechanic. My own "Team". Team Keebler! haha
Awesome
I was running another brand spark arrestor end cap on my 22 EX300. Bike ran "fine" and I kept the screen clean. Had some extra money so is bought the FMF turbine core...HUGE difference. Bike ran soo much better with the FMF.
Shop rate when they worked on it before.... Haha. There is truth to that. Sorting it all out again takes time. Good work!
Super sleuth machinic, have a beer and chill. Great work.
My 22 150i had loose head bearings as well. Mine ran horrible starting at 15hrs. Unfortunately it wasn't a clogged pressure sensor port. Never did figure it out, only got worse with use until I had enough of it. TPI is frustrating when it malfunctions, and difficult to diagnose.
Yep
good video!!! Just riding along......As soon as you saw the none OEM screws I knew you were on to something, always good mechanic practice!!
🔥with that gasket and oring behind that slave possibly kept it away from engine case, made the push rod short why was slack in that pack 🔥👊🔥⚙️🏍🔨
I have this bike and swapped out the silencer before ever riding it. Dumb luck on that. Now, the loose steering head problem is for real. I'm currently replacing the bearings now with tusk bearings. Not sure what the deal is on that but will definitely keep a close eye.
That's a nice death trap you've got there. Just one more example of going over a used bike thoroughly before you go ride because you never know what you're getting into. Nice video
That was a fun video to watch, and yes, these things cannot be scripted 🙂
Oooo. A video on my same bike! The plugged spark arrestor seems to tie into the problems I've had of over consumption. Definitely ran better with the turbine core i installed that wasnt a mesh screen. Maybe the tuning for the closed course tx is much richer for closed course? Idk.. that seems far fetched. The loose slave and head bolts is absolutely mind blowing, like are you f-ing kidding me??? 12.5K for a bike and shit is loose!? Never had clutch problems though. Private detective is our incognito job description hands down. Nice work Morgan. Would love to link up soon and bounce our brains off of similar situations.
Heck yeah man
I had a suspicion it was the spark arrestor. As soon as you stated the video. It had that funny stifled sound.
Yep
2022 tx300 comes stock with Brembos 👍🏼
First thing i do with any piece of equipment...spark arrestor in the trash can. Leaf blowers, string trimmers, bikes, etc. This bike suffered from a major case of bad mechanic.
The washer ring that goes underneath the Belleville has 2 sides - one convex one concave, so that might have been upside down and the extra gasket and oring probably added some travel... rekluse bolts are longer -dont know if they bottom out.
Being in the automotive business, sometimes I wish my techs would make videos of the weird stuff we find and problems cascade, although sometimes its that simple "something" everyone missed.
I've clogged up the screen type spark arrestors a few times unfortunately gone through a bit of troubleshooting before realizing I finally put an fmf turbine core on so I don't need to even think about it.
Yep
What is a turbin core? Aftermarket?
Great job "Ace Ventura"
22 tx300s came with brembo all around!
Thanks.
I've ridden with multiple guys who have had those screen spark arrestors and they find them PLUGGED UP!!! I highly recommend NEVER using those on 2-strokes!!! If you must use them, they require persistent maintenance to insure they stay clean.
As for the clutch issue, I suspect it was partially, if not all, caused by the thickness of that unnecessary gasket on the slave cylinder. On older KTMs, like say an '02 200EXC, they used various thickness gaskets at the slave cylinder housing to set clutch play. Newer models don't do that. Having that gasket in place would have spaced out the clutch pushrod enough to not allow the clutch to be disengaged. I've also seen issues with aftermarket clutch disk thickness varying from the stock thickness, such that when installed, you have more play between the disks or maybe even requiring you to use a different number of fiber or metal disks.
I love the front brake line routing! And the loose triple tree post. You saved this guy some serious potential injury as well as money for very extensive repairs.
Nice work.
Agree 100%
Funnily my tx300i doesn't have a spark arrestor. Bought new in Australia 😎👍🇦🇺
Nice work bro.
Indication #1 is rekluse clutch pads
Killer content - moto detective 👍🏼
Thanks
My brembo clutch was acting funny, the fluid on the reservoir was black, i pulled the slaver cylinder apart and sure enough the inside o ring was flat, changed that little o ring and the clutch is like new!
Those pesky o rings always do the most damage hahaha.
Totally
I've known people put bikes back together and had parts left over, never seen one where they put extra parts in 🤣
El Cheapo fix and one happy customer , job jobbed 👍
Good that it was just that spark arrestor screen! Looks like someone was messing with that bike that shouldn't have been messing with a bike at all!
Agree
A great example of KISS
rekluse pressure plate bolts are longer than the stock ones were probably bottoming out
yes, someone ripped out the autoclutch before selling the machine and threw it back together carelessly or otherwise to sell the bike, may have had their own suspension on the bike and threw the stock back on, goofing up the brake line routing. Buying used can have it's advantages and disadvantages.
My 2021 tx300i never has that splooge or blows smoke.... Touch wood 🤞
The Fischer sparky loads up the EE one is way better you can torch it way easier to clean than the Fischer
Agree
Good job Morgan !
Thanks
4:06 - i laughed so hard.
LOVE the honesty..."This bike sucks". HAHAHAHAHA thanks Morgan.
Hahahahaha
But that's should be good now that it's fixed.
@@kordapyo612 yep
I know exactly what happened to that bike. First, I had an 81 Husky 430 XC that had a screen in the muffler. I was always having to take it off and cleaning it .. Finally I tossed it. As for the clutch funny business, I suspect that the owner selling to your customer took a Rekluse off and cobbed everything back together so he could sell the bike. Seen it many times. You know every used bike just had a top end put in and new fork seals and a service. Yeah, right.
That is the problem finding a used race bike, someone who had been in there. It takes a lot of money to fix it and undo damage they did.
That Husky Reminds me of a old girlfriend i had, looked good from far
Hahaha
Ktm brands are the hot chicks with herpes.
Some top gear runs would help. And a new plug.
It was a beginner woman/man bike with a rekluse and short suspension. Figured it wasn’t there thing and try to put it back to stock or somebody did. It should be good bike once fixed.
Hi, how did you get the spark arestor out? And did it just need cleaned?
It is bolted in with a couple screws and yes
Awesome
Gotta find that power band bro
Hahahah
there was Rekluse AUTO clutch on it
Yep
Impressed it didn't foul plugs like crazy.... lol those screen are great so long as you burn them off every couple rides!
Oh also on that clutch issue, I'm betting the ring holding the pressure plate down was snugged down too tight. I believe those bolts are supposed to be around 10nm is all, any more than that and you squeeze the "bellville" plate (I think it's called) to hard and it pulls the pressure plate away thus causing the issue you saw. Plus those extra parts on the slave, eeeek WTF someone should not be touching what they don't understand. Then that loose head stem, yikes that's just some spooky stuff there, the guy was lucky it ran so bad he couldn't ride it until you fixed it up... Good Job!
Thanks
Great work but I’m still wondering what was making the bike load up so much. I have a 23’ running bad as we speak
It was all because of the spark arrestor
I have a new 2024 300 XC-W in the USA (14 hours on it). I am having problems at low RPM. The bike runs rough as if it were cold, or lean.
Looking online it seems that for the TPI models this used to be a Crankcase Sensor issue. I cannot find any information online to whether the 2024 TBI also has an issue with this sensor (my bike is pretty clean with only 14 hours). Do you have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate and lead.
It rides similar to this TX300i (less problematic but similar issue)
I haven’t seen issues with the CCP on the new bikes. I’d check your TPS voltage
It’s out of time check the cam chain tensioner. 😂🤣
My 2019 te300i runs great down low in the rpm’s but as soon as I try to get in it it breaks up. Changed plug, (br9eix) put fmf gnarly on because old pipe was crushed, still didn’t help. Any ideas before I start throwing parts at it?
To start, I like the BR7 plugs but I don’t think that’s your problem. It sounds like CCP or low compression. You can check compression first.
@@highlandcycles thank you sir! After some messing around it was that the power valve was out of adjustment!
My prediction, guy buys this bike new, puts a recluse in it, all kinds of other stuff, puts that spark arrestor in there, starts getting back pressure issues. Thinks the bike is garbage, puts it up for sale, thinks I can pull the parts off (or the wife said you spent how much on these parts and what what what WHAT) doesn't tighten anything down after hastily putting things back on.
New guy buys it, thinks meh whatever it starts in the guy's garage should be fine, no leaks whatevs. Gets home, what have I done. Takes it to a KTM shop and has monkeys that just hook up code reader, start guessing, he loses out a thousand or more on KTM shop. Goes to you, you find it in 10 minutes, bike is fine just put together by a guy I hope was drinking at the time he did said work.
Amazing video. I hate buying used bikes, so much, they might look amazing but whew...
Speaking of husqvarna, transmissions, & Austrian headaches. How easy or long of a job is the 6th gear add on a fx450 or tc250/250sx?
I found a few discounted but would want the 6th gear, weighing out my options becuase I'd probably left a shop do the case splitting.
It’s a big job. As much disassembly as you can do
Hi highland,my 17 SXF450,tps will randomly change its value every 5hrs or so,then I'll set it back again no way the screws are loose etc .any feedback on this out Thier? Cheers.
Sounds like the tps might be bad itself.
@@highlandcycles your vids are great informative content, yea it's a go too alright 225
hours .
@@highlandcycles have you dealt with issue before mate?
@@Crust2013 I have. It was on older carburetor bikes but I have seen TPS go bad.
I've had good luck with the used bikes I've purchased in my life... but this is the scary stuff 🤨
Subscriber and love the info you provide. Question: I have an 2018 FC 450 with two of the slave cylinder bolts stripped. What do you recommend? Helicoil or that other thing you mentioned in another video? I would bring to you but I live in NC. Thanks in advance.
On those you’ll probably need to do helicoils
Or drill out old threads and tap one size bigger . If Enuff meat in case
Where u at in NC ? I might be able to help you get your threads fixed if your near Charlotte .
@@jeremymullen5378 not sure there is enough on all of those holes. Maybe
@@wrenchone5003 Thanks but taking to Doug Duffy Motorsports in Burlington in January. Already spoke with him. Thanks for the offer though.
Sounds like it's got a gerbil in the intake boot?
Hehehe
To me, it ookrd like the Belville spring was installed upside down. Did you notice that?
It wasn’t. It looked like that on camera. But everything else was jacked
I have a 22 tx 300i and I changed the clutches a few months ago and when I ride it now the bike won’t hit the powerband. Iv changed the pc sensor, air sensor, cleaned and repacked the exhaust, everytime I get on the throttle it feels like it’s gummed up and won’t open all the way up. Like it won’t clean itself out
Check the power valve
Should I tune the power valve? I was told they could gum up and not wanna open up but I also was told not to touch the power valve to adjust it
@@JonVennum yes, tune it. That line was an emissions thing. It’s probably not opening. At this point, you’ll probably need to take it apart if it’s not opening
@@highlandcycles I took the side piece off on ignition side for power valve and it’s definitely opening up but the power valve screw is turned in a good bit…it defiantly is hitting very high rpm’s…counter clock wise would be opening it to hit sooner
@@JonVennum yes
Your customer is probably second owner. Previous owner had rekluse, steering damper, and switched brakes. Probably one of those internet posers too that thought adding a little 2 stroke oil to gas was a good thing clogging sparker. Buyer beware. Dummy unbolting everything to sell it to get another new bike he wont ride.
That looks like the answer. :)
Probably didn't tighten the pressure plate bolts in the right sequence.
If I bring in my moto for a pre-sale health check can I advertise it, "As seen on TH-cam", and jack up the price?
I think Slavens set you up with this TX. You have a mole.
Hahahaha
Buy a new bike if you can afford it. Planning on getting the 24 KTM 300 XC TBI 👍
Let me guess the owner is a engineer and he does all his own work?
LMAO!!! I know some of those...
Front brake line is on the wrong side of the fork
Yep. I think I mentioned that later. Either way, I moved it
@@highlandcycles it’s not very often I get to feel smart 😎 haha
The bike probably was a supermoto the brake line has to go on the outside to fit the supermoto wheel 😳
Advise him to get a Beta 300Racing and he will get it right without messing around :-)
1st, My guess was dirty air filter, haha
Hahaha
TPI 2 stroke is the worst bike I've ever owned... and I've owned a lot of bikes.
Front brake line needs routing properly also,on the outside of the fork. We all know it should be on the inside don't we 😳
Yep. Swapped that. Found out that this bike has a snow bike kit on it. That’s why it was routed that way.
Great review, I have a 300 TPI the manual says 12 nm for the top head stem nut, you said 17nm?, Q is that a setting you prefer? or have I got it wrong? Thanks
A lot of people recommend making it a bit tighter, comes loose very easily
No, you are probably right. I mix up the pinch bolts and that top bolt sometimes. 5nm is almost nothing so it doesn't really matter too much. As long as you don't preload the bearings too much
Lemon
I'm no mechanic but I do know the 22 TX came with brembo brakes and clutch I have a 22 FX350 it has brembo brakes and all on it the te models cane with something else why I don't know
The TE came with Magura. And I believe in some other years the TX did too. In fact, that slave cylinder I showed in the video came off of an earlier year TX.
@@highlandcycles I really enjoy your channel dedicated slag watcher and you other videos I don't always agree on some things we all have the right to our opinions ive always bn a die hard 2stroke guy but one year ago I went 4stroke I don't ride technical stuff just ride open trails and do a few harescrambles im 61 please keep up with the videos I really appreciate all you do for the sport your channel number 1 in my book ar least you will talk to a fellow most the other guys won't talk to you unless you piss them off about something you the man
@@lyndonewright330 thanks so much
Wow TX abuse makes me ill. I have so much money tossed away to just find those SA screens are pugged.
Hit Subscribe. Another example of someone who shouldn't be near a dirt bike with tools. Topping things off is the mendacity.
😂😂 that husky was definitely made on a Monday or a Friday I rate KTM and husky very highly but that 2022 is literally falling apart and unscrewing it's self loose 😂😂 omg that is poor
It always amazes me that people who ride dirt bikes can't figure out their own simple problems. Maybe you should keep the bike and tell the owner that he should stick to driving a minivan.
Hehehehe
That’s rude. Maybe he doesn’t have time or an interest in fixing bikes. At least he rides dirt bikes so he’s on our team.
Some People use computers and don't know how to fix them, other don't do their taxes, does that say that they can make money? Or, is that why we have IT and accountants? And bike mecanics?
@@BAYAREAMX sound's he is victim blaming
Holy Cow WTF! Folks put down 10k for these bikes close to 11k with the Husky nice diagnostics i hope they totally dump tpi for good. All of my bikes were 80,90's and 00 KTM'S thank god i never had to deal with these abortions. TBI BABY!
People make crasy shits in her bikes! 😮
Weird things cost money 💰 😕 🤔
Yup
That sounds terrible
i had the same problem with that spark arrestor after the first ride.
"Let's build more environment friendly engines!" Bike takes ages warming up to start riding.
That's really unnecessary, just keep the revs down for the first few minutes and you're fine, just like any other bike.
Good one.
Euro-trash. I wish the Japanese would get serious about off-road.
I still want a new Husky though. Or a Beta. Or a TM Racing.
Those new 2 strokes are sh*t.
Il keep my RM250 to the pension time
His problem is he didn't buy a yamaha..
