So happy to see you two are ok. We used all your videos 3 yrs go as we ventured to seista key ( Jamaica Royale) for our inaugural visit in 23. Came back longer in 2024 and were planning on a months stay in 25. Time will tell if we are able to return. Our prayers are for all the owners as they try to maneuver thru ins companies and restore rebuild. Here in the Jersey shore we remember 2012 and Super storm Sandy so we know the devastation. Sending positive vibes and prayers for all suffering thru these past 2 hurricanes. Thank you both for all you do
Thank you, Eileen. We're so happy that our videos have helped you to plan your travels in the area. Sarasota will recover. Some of it will take days and some of it may take years, but it will be back!
I’m glad to see that Sarasota is in decent shape overall. Next time you’re in Bahia Vista st. after a storm, we need an update on Yoder’s, not just Der Dutchman. Those pies are a national treasure. Also, the brave men and women who are repairing our electrical infrastructure are not just lineman, they are Power Rangers. :)
You're right, Chris. Yoder's pies are amazing. From what I could tell, it looked like their building was in pretty good shape although I couldn't tell for sure if they were open or not.
Over here on the other coast a small tornado passed right through my development and way too close to my house. I took a bike ride to see where it went. Took the tops off a whole lot of trees but as far as I could tell only hit one house. Glad you were safe.
We could not believe the number of tornadoes that Milton produced. Sorry to hear it passed so close to your home, but glad to hear most of the houses were spared.
It's great that the café and the restaurants don't seem to be damaged and are open as usual. I wonder how Bradenton is east of the freeway. Last October I stayed at the Red Roof Inn there, which doesn't sound fancy but was a hidden gem for my road trip along the Gulf Coast. It was great, on a large lake/bird sanctuary. It's near the Waffle House, next to an Anna Maria Island Oyster House.
Yes ... anyway, I know Downtown Sarasota very well. Library and the Theaters...Wholefoods and Gators are definitely go tos for the Down Town experience ... enjoyed it there for 16 years, finally left. 😊
No, definitely not due to hurricanes. Sarasota was just a little too slow paced for us, plus the traffic kept getting worse and worse. We didn't move far though.
Thanks for the video. What's your overall consensus on how things turned out? Hoping to move to this area in January, curious if that's a reasonable at this point.
Certain areas are pretty bad, especially on the barrier islands. We definitely are not trying to downplay the damage, but from what we saw overall, we were surprised by how relatively normal much of the city felt. For having a major hurricane make landfall just a few miles ways, we honestly would have expected to see more significant, widespread damage.
@@JamieandSkylar our infrastructure in florida esp the cities are mega strong... and only get stronger...ssshhh dont let the ppl know cuz the media makes us look like we ll be underwater in five years, which is good because itll keep ppl away and real estate prices down lolololololol
We were pretty nervous with our first big hurricane (Irma) after moving to Florida, but each one after that has been less and less scary until this one. I think Milton had almost everyone in our area at least a little bit scared.
One thing residents DON’T need after a hurricane are non-residents “just looking” and competing for gasoline and restaurants! Pretty sure there can be gas supplied but not getting it because authorities want to discourage “sight seeing”.
We do agree that simply driving around sight seeing while there is a gas shortage is not a great idea. But in our case, we want to make it clear that we weren't just sight seeing. We stopped at and supported multiple businesses while filming this episode. We also stopped to help some of our old neighbors in the Sarasota area clean up. We filled up both of our vehicles prior to Milton and have not "competed" for any gas since the storm. We made this video to provide our viewers a realistic and accurate view of what the conditions are like in the area. Thanks for watching.
No video can depict life after a storm. There are no gasoline shortages. There are controlled deliveries in order to meet storm restoration contracts the suppliers make for first responders, utilities, and even some shops which are under prearranged contracts with restoration activities. You get hurt working in the area and that is completely unnecessary stress added to the disaster area workers. Amount of traffic on roads indicates there are a lot of people who listened to authorities and are waiting to get back from wherever they evacuated. Restoration workers from out of town want to get their jobs done and get back to their families just as much as displaced residents want to get back home. If you presently don’t live in the disaster area or are not part of an organized disaster relief effort stay away from the area. People have guns and mean dogs beyond the dangers of the debris with nails, broken glass, contaminates and all sorts of hidden hazards like insects with viruses.
$3.19/ga - loved it; it's much better than $6/ga in CA. No wonder people are leaving CA; no hurricane will do as much damage as Newsom....Kamala is worse!!!
Why do you hate this country? Have you read Project 2025- I assume no. You complain about CA- 5th largest economy in world? CA and other blue states are paying for you taker red states. CA pays the bill for hurricane damage. Learn something- you elect Trump and you get President Vance and fascism- you know, what your grandfather fought against in WW11

💯👍thx 4 the update
Of course! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, as always.
We stopped by OfKors last year...as seen on Explorcation...very good!
Thanks for the updates..and as you say, it's s unfortunate that it had to hit hard anywhere.
Our pleasure, Gene. But yeah, unfortunately one persons fortune is another one's misfortune.

We did drive through quite a bit of Bradenton Sunday evening. Lots of limbs downs, but most of it didn't look that bad. Many businesses were open.
I'm back in Iowa ... cool dry air 55 degrees sipping coffee with people under the age of 70. Missed out on Milton.
But how does anything grow there without the 87 inches of rain that we get here in Florida every summer?

One thing about a hurricane is that it can open up the tree canopy and lighten things up.
Definitely.

Choose your building structure, orientation and location wisely
