    My grandma planted a tree Everytime one of us grandkids was born, I'm 36 and my oak tree is amazing! We always joke with my brother because his got damaged by the hurricane years ago and it's half the size of all the others but my grandparents backyard is amazing with these trees growing oldest is 43 years old, all together there's 17 trees representative of the 17 grandkids Anyways it's a cool story and it was a tradition she learned in Mississippi by her grandmother!!!

      Our big dogs ruined every tree we planted! The last passed a year ago and while we miss him, out very large new fruit trees have been left to alone by our by our lap dogs! Can't wait for the pears, cherries, apples, plums and peaches this year. Yes they were pricey to buy trees that age but worth it! Unfortunately last year the big game came in and ate our harvest. The electric fence is now in place, the netting bought and in a few years we will then share a little more, maybe lol.

      The power hungry, big ego, controlling politicians wouldn’t allow it. They would make city ordinances and city codes so that you could not do this. • @rhiannonh5202
    @rhiannonh5202 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hey Kevin :) If you remove the current producer and put 2-3 in its place I highlyyyy suggest a Tangelo, they are soooo delicious in general but especially when grown at home!! and I think they can be overlooked. Another suggestion, if you can source them in the US, we have a very cool native in Australia called caviar lime/finger limes. If you don't know what they are they are basically limes with all the juice being contained in these little caviar like pockets and are perfect for garnishing as well as using similarly to a regular lime. I just bought one for myself and am keen to see it grow, but like most limes it takes a while to produce (5 years ish I've been told for first fruit and if any set before then it's best to take them off), but it will be so worth it. An additional bonus is they are quite prickly which is good habitat for many small birds :) Looking great, can't wait to do this on my own property one day!

Surrounded by huge blue lakes and wide deep rivers as well as Glacier streams and springs you can drink! One of the most astoundingly beautiful places on earth! However when I wake up to 5 inches of new snow and watch a citrus line of hedges in beautiful sunshine as I just am getting the garden on paper, im so very jealous of you!!! In Florida the government, state I believe, came in and cut down most of the privately owned citrus trees. At the time the commercial growers were dealing with citrus canker. We lost a lot of heritage varieties and diversity, many of which were resistant to the disease. In some cases they even took out non citrus fruit trees. There was no means for the homeowner to object.

I've had it a couple times at the LA County Fair, where they grow since it in Pomona, so similar climate to San Diego. Plus it's just a conversation piece, both using the 'caviar' and the fruit can have some interesting color (though I seem to only see the standard green in the US)

    We planted our citrus three years ago and just got our first cara cara oranges (two and delicious), a bunch of eureka lemons and several Dancy tangerines. Still waiting for the bearss lime, washington navel, clemenine mandarine, meyers lemon and valencia. I'm in zone 9b and we get some frost so we had to place our trees according to where we get frost and where it is more protected. We created a microclimate between a large oak tree, fence and building and those closest to the fence are least frost tolerant and the more hardy citrus are closest to the frost zone. We still cover them with frost blankets if there is a frost warning. I'm looking forward to a lot more citrus this year and next. And, this year we got some dragon fruit cuttings from a friend and my partner will be building a dragon fruit set-up like yours and we'll place them along the fence, near the citrus, for winter protection.

    I wish citrus could grow in MN! We planted a lemon seed and we actually got one to sprout! It will never fruit in our environment but it’s a cute little plant!

    I'm so excited to watch those babies grow! I tried planting two citrus trees once and it was total mayhem, so I'm looking forward to learning a thing or two :) I must say, that was the sexiest outro I've ever seen, haha!

    Ohhh! We have a family member that has a blood orange tree. All of us in the family, fight over them. Enjoy, that one. Don’t plant it near the street. Just sayin

    You forgot to plant the most important (and best) citrus tree of all time - Calamansi! Glad you are getting rid of that confused grapefruit on the end - it's all looking great!

    We started our citrus last year (they’re dwarfs so they live in pots), and I had no idea that they get so thorny. They have better defenses than roses.

    I used to love pink lemonade as a kid, I'm guessing the differnt taste comes from the unique taste of that lemon! Dont think ill ever be able to grow it here in the UK at least not without a serious greenhouse. But one can dream!

    Can’t grow citrus here in the DC area but a couple of years ago I learned that pawpaw grows naturally in this area. Tasted my first pawpaw then and it was amazing. A combo of mango and banana with a texture like custard.
    I might look into whether it’s possible to plant one in the very small yard where we’ll be living (moving in the spring). The fruit has never made it commercially because it’s very fragile and only available for a few weeks in the fall. I’m not sure you can even buy a sapling and it might require more than one to fruit.

    the root stock is poncirus trifoliate. Its an incredibly hardy citrus related fruit. if you don't train your tree the root stock will bud.

    I have serious citrus-envy! I have apple and pear trees here in zone 4. Trying to decide on adding either plums or hardy cherries.
