      @Prince Ecstar Well, he isn't saying that he's better, just that Jamie is not as good as the current lineup of Latifi and Russell, which I don't think is an unreasonable claim to make. Does he belabour the point a bit much to undermine her though? Yes, absolutely.
      Sadly I don't think Jamie will make it to F1 because she simply doesn't have the backing and thanks to the W-Series bigging her up so much, when her results in FREC were nowhere near as good, it creates this image problem where people come to the conclusion (wrongly) that she's only able to beat other women, which anyone who's been following her formative career knows isn't true. I think she could become an amazing all-rounder though, especially with her performances in Extreme E.

    • @GeriatricFan1963
      @GeriatricFan1963 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      She doesn’t have the budget unfortunately; she did do a season of Formula Renault European Cup last year but she finished 9th, behind all of her teammates at Prema; the heavy steering of the FREC cars completely caught her out, and thankfully she has upped her training to improve her upper body strength to try and prevent it happening again. She is good enough to move up to international F3, but when you have a bad season where you don’t perform as expected, that’s basically a career killer and very hard to recover from as it destroys your momentum and reputation; especially as it plays into the narrative of her critics that she can only beat other women. Winning W-Series again will give her the super license points she needs for an FP1 session, but it won’t prove anything that she didn’t already prove by winning the first time. To a lot of people in the F1 paddock Jamie is seen as a diversity hire, which is a bit unfair and unfortunate. She has been really impressive in Extreme E however; I could see her becoming a really great all-rounder in multiple disciplines; similar to her teammate Stephane Sarrazin.

    Do people nit realize how much data Williams has on its drivers. If she was the quickest option they would be moving mountains to get her in FP1 sessions. She is probably many tenths slower that ever other option they have which in F1 I'd a lifetime. Obviously she's quick, but at this level she can't hang on F1.

    • @GeriatricFan1963
      @GeriatricFan1963 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it may also be that she doesn’t have enough points for the superlicense she needs to participate in FP1’s; if she wins W-Series again then she will have enough. I think the bigger issue though is that last year she really struggled in Formula Renault/Alpine because she admitted that she didn’t train hard enough during lockdown, so she struggled all year with the really heavy steering the FRenault cars have. But everyone saw she was driving for Prema, by far the best team in that category, and was nowhere near her teammates like Arthur Leclerc. Obviously she didn’t forget how to drive or anything, but as a female driver she’s always going to be judged more harshly for a poor season because it’s so rare to see a female driver even getting into single seaters in Europe. Trouble is, she can drive the greatest W-Series races of her life, but it won’t matter if she can’t perform in none gender-segregated series, so she’s got a real image problem. I actually think W-Series has done quite a bit of harm to her career, because it increased expectations of her to a standard that’s near impossible to fulfil.

    • @anonymoususer1824
      @anonymoususer1824 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeriatricFan1963 I agree. I don't see how destroying other girls helps her. If she's so good she should just go to F3 or F2 and prove it. Why this delay. I really don't think she's a bum, but I firmly believe she will never make it in F1. Williams is a very woke team so they may give her a shot, but me thinks she'll fail miserably if they even do. Same way the tried to force Suzy Wolff in the car and she would be consistently 3 tenths or more slower than her teammates. Women can drive there is no denying that, but I do not believe over a race distance they can keep the stamina and concentration that the men have.

    • @GeriatricFan1963
      @GeriatricFan1963 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@anonymoususer1824 Main reason she can't go to F3 or F2 is that her budget simply isn't big enough, and even the prize money from W-Series is nowhere near enough to fund an F3 season. The main reason to stay in W-series is for the TV coverage and exposure, but unfortunately the side-effect of that is that she is known as "The girl who won W-Series and probably wouldn't be anywhere without that" rather than as a promising young driver who's earned their place in the sport in their own right; but I suppose from her POV that's better than before where very few people outside of die-hard enthusiasts knew who she was.
      I think Jamie has done more to prove that she deserves to be there than Suzie Wolff did; Jamie has at least got a British GT title to her name, and she's been competitive in a bunch of different series like BRDC F3, Extreme E, and MRF Formula. Suzie on the other hand wasted an entire decade of her career at the back in DTM and sort of just coasted along on the excuse that she was in a year-old Mercedes. (Which doesn't really stand up to scrutiny when Paul Di Resta was at the same time winning races in a year-old Mercedes) That said, I think Suzie does a much better job now that she is the team principal of the Venturi Formula E team; it suits her skillset a lot better and the team repeatedly punches above their weight with Edoardo Mortara winning races and scoring podiums. All things considered I actually felt Suzie did okay to be 3 tenths off considering how long it had been since she'd last driven a single seater, but being in her mid 30's she was far too old to make her debut in F1; in 2014/15 she was about as good as she was going to be, but that wasn't really enough to make it and no team is gonna sign someone starting their F1 career at the age that most drivers start to think about retiring. Jamie on the other hand is still only 23, so I think she's young enough to improve and to become a more complete driver; but I honestly see her being more likely to have a great career outside F1 rather than within it.
      I disagree that women are not capable of keeping up the stamina and concentration needed; I don't think studies bare that out at all. Like Jamie admitted, she just under-estimated how much she needed to work on her upper body strength for the FRenault steering, which is notoriously heavy, even for the male drivers. I think it might be a biological thing where women need to train a lot harder than men in order to get to the level needed for coping with F1-level G-forces, but it's not impossible to get there by any means, it just requires a lot of discipline. I don't think she would necessarily fail if she somehow beat the odds and found herself in an F1 race seat, but I do think she would be kind of like Max Chilton was: Very consistent and always finishing races, but very rarely particularly quick or outstanding compared to the rest of the field. And I felt Chilton was a pretty decent driver, as shown by his performances in Indycar, but in F1 Jules Bianchi made him look very average.

    • @anonymoususer1824
      @anonymoususer1824 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeriatricFan1963 The only disagreements I have are that women can match their male counterparts fitness. Of course F1 cars are easier to drive than years past, but even the slightest disadvantage cost seconds over a race distance. If a woman was out there and could do it she would be found by team scouts. Also, teams would do ANYTHING to have a woman driver for marketing. Just look at Danica Patrick. If Jamie could even come close to cutting it they would put her on the seat because the advertising would be record breaking. Why hasn't that happened? I think its because she isn't isn't enough. And yes she's 23 and before you know it she'll be 24, 25, 26, etc. In a few short years she will be too old and there will be countless younger rich kids lining up making deals to join F1 and Jamie will be yesterday's news.

      @GeriatricFan1963 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anonymoususer1824 Again, I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. I think it's next to impossible to find the next big thing when you don't give female drivers enough seat time to prove themselves; I've been critical of W-Series but that is one thing that I think it does get right, it gives really inexperienced drivers a fair bit of seat time before judging them. I think even F1 champions like Nigel Mansell and Jody Scheckter started off as pretty flawed and accident-prone; Colin Chapman and Ken Tyrrell gave them big breaks and they improved dramatically over the course of their careers and proved a lot of people wrong. Someone who can just jump in the car and immediately thrash everyone is incredibly rare; the one female driver we've seen who can do that is Juju Noda, and even then she's only 15 and driving in regional F4 right now; she's not really gotten a consistent junior level programme together until now, so it's too early to hail her as the next big thing despite the hype behind her.
      Danica is an interesting case, where she was really quick in Indycar, and had some offers to do F1 with Honda. But she basically said she wouldn't bother with F1 unless she could get a competitive ride, and then went to NASCAR, which ended up being a bit of a disaster. NASCAR made her a bigger name in the U.S. but she achieved a lot less than she almost certainly would have if she'd stayed put in Indycar. (In fairness though, Indycar was really dangerous back then. and after she was involved in the crash that ended up killing Dan Wheldon, and then with Justin Wilson's own fatal crash a few years later, you can't really blame her for wanting to leave)
      A common theme with female racing drivers is either abysmal management or lack of sponsorship. And honestly I think that's nothing to do with how they perform on track: At the end of the day if you're sponsoring a racing team/driver, your main audience is going to be male, and sponsors are going to be selling products aimed at men. And companies advertising to men in a predominantly male space generally don't want a female racing driver fronting their brand, unless they're doing provocative sexy photoshoots like we saw Danica having to do. I think most racing drivers don't want to have to sell themselves like a prostitute into order to fund their careers. I think more often than not sponsors say no and female racing drivers never get the chance to prove themselves; so this idea that a female racing driver would have sponsors lining up at their feet if only they were good enough, is bullshit. Take a look at the career of Simona De Silvestro if you don't believe me; she was being lined up for a seat at Sauber and her sponsor pulled out at the last minute and scuppered the deal. She's one of the most committed and ballsiest drivers out there; she even qualified a years old chassis for the Indy 500 this year.

    Do people not realize how much data Williams has on its drivers. If she was the quickest option they would be moving mountains to get her in FP1 sessions. She is probably many tenths slower than ever other option they have which in F1 which is a lifetime. Obviously she's quick, but at this level she can't hang on F1. Personally I'd love to see her get a shot so we can all see a woman complete against men.

    Come on, she lovely, she cute and she's very talented in the woman's competition. Yes it's her dream to race formula one but wake up, she would finish last last last and what team is going to waste tens of millions on someone just to tick a box?
    She hasn't a prayer and that's not me being sexist, just an honest opinion from someone who doesn't care for the woke brigade
