    Lella was way faster than her results let on. She kept telling the March team something was wrong with her car but they didn't listen. Then after they sacked her and brought in Ronnie Peterson, he said the exact same thing was wrong with his car. They fixed it and he was instantly quicker.

    Robin Herd, the great race engineer who designed the March 761 Lella drove in 1976, told a story about the 761 chassis Lella raced in F1 that year. He said she was always complaining that her 761 'took a set', meaning it set itself into a cornering mode she could do nothing about. He dismissed that, at least partly on account of her 'just being a woman', but later when the team stripped the car down they found she was right - the chassis was bent. Turned out it had previously been crashed by Vittoria Brambilla, one of Lella's March teammates - 'The Monza Gorrila', as he was known - although he was a fine driver, crashing was one of the things he did - and the chassis had never been properly straightened. Herd said he regretted not listening to her at the time, and you have to give him credit for that, but he died a fair few years after Lella and took that regret to his grave.

    Lela Lombardi and Michele Mouton are the two drivers younger female racing drivers like Chadwick could clearly look up to. It proves gender is just another data. Talent, is what is needed, above all.

    A beautiful and touching tribute, and I really do hope to see Jamie Chadwick make it to F1. She’s got such amazing talent and drive, and with F1’s push to increase diversity and equality in the sport, I think it would be a big positive step forward for the series if more female drivers were given opportunities

    • @Thundus201
      @Thundus201 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Thundus201 Jamie and Oscar Piastri are not even nearly in the same class. Jamie Chadwick placed 9th in a prema in Formula regional Europe (with tons of experience in the chassis), while her teammates, who were all rookies placed 1, 2 and 3. Chadwick, who had more experience managed 80 points to their 359, 343 and 343 respectively.
      One of those teammates was Arthur Leclerc, who finished 10th in by far the best car in F3 in 2021. That should say more than enough about Jamie Chadwicks skill.

      @@sdfopsdmsdofjmp7863 Yeah she’s nothing special. She’s just the best option that exists. But I don’t think we need a woman for the sake of having a woman. We need talented women who deserve to be in F1. Lewis is the 1 and only black driver to be in F1 and he’s one of the best overall, I’d rather have something like that than just forcing a mediocre driver into the sport.

    • @samuel88

  • @y_fam_goeglyd

    I remember watching her as a girl. She was someone I would mentally urge on, and I thought she was amazing. Perhaps it's as well that I didn't see the race she got on the scoreboard for, given the circumstances, but the fact she was there elevated her even more in my mind (tbh, I don't think I knew about the fatalities - my dad would have shielded me from that most likely)
    My ex-rally driver father had two racing heroes, both rally drivers, Ann Jones and Pat Moss (his absolute favourite). He brought up me and my sisters to do anything we wanted to do - he would never let us use "because I'm a girl" to get out of doing anything. The only thing I could use my gender as an excuse for was to be unable to be a biological father. But as he said, even back in the 70s, there were (still are) plenty of single parents doing excellent jobs as both mother & father, it was only the biology that prevented that one job being shared.
    Had we had any money and a reasonably nearby kart track, you can be sure I'd have been there every weekend, aiming to be the Lombardi or Moss of my generation. Or a bit later, a Michelle Mouton clone lol.
    Lella was taken from us far too soon. She should never be forgotten. I can't wait to see a talented female driver in a car that can regularly fight for points, and maybe podiums and wins. I really, _really_ hope to see it before I die.

With the extra publicity and push for it (W-series, F1's drive for overall diversity), I think more women will climb up the motorsport ladder.

    Fastest reactions rule no matter what gender. I was the quickest 100 yarder only .5 off world record in 1967 ..but 2 girls In my class beat everybody in a scientific reaction test .. totally blown away

    Problem for Jamie is that she can't seem to move beyond W Series. If she wins W Series again and still can't move up the ranks then that'll be it for the series.

    This was a great video but it's a shame the narrating was with such bad audio quality and I'm afraid Jamie's narrating was not the most entertaining.

    Yo F1 team, the new season is starting. And I would love some still camera shots this season, they’re super dope and it really emphasizes on the speeds these cars race at, Which you don’t experience the same way when the cars are tracked at all times.
