The contemporary medical research has come up with enough evidence that mind is the seat of all diseases and that we are surrounded by myths. Dr.B M Hegde is a medical scientist, cardiologist, educationist and author who has contributed immensely in the field of healthcare medical science. He speaks about how change is found everywhere and that change is life. He talks about the level of difficulty seen in removing myths. He cites the examples of taking medicines for minor illnesses which otherwise could be cured by sipping hot water which destroys the virus or by using the readily available Indian herbs. A good doctor according to him is the one who empathizes and builds faith in his patient. He says that change is a must and science has to change. He stresses on the fact that knowledge advances by changing myths and not by repeating the known things. This talk was given at an independently organised TEDx event using the TED conference format. Dr.B M Hegde is an Indian medical scientist, educationist and an author. Dr. Hegde is Padma Bhushan awardee 2010. He is the former Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, Co-Chairman of the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai and the chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore. He has authored several books on medical practice and ethics. He is also the Editor in Chief of the medical journal, Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes.He is MBBS, Ph. D. [Hon. Causa], MD, FRCP [London], FRCP [Edinburgh], FRCP [Glasgow], FRCPI [Dublin], FACC [USA] and FAMS. He also received training in cardiology from Harvard Medical School under Bernard Lown, a Nobel Laureate. He has won Dr. B C Roy National Award in the category of an Eminent Medical Teacher, Dr. J. C. Bose Award for Life Sciences Research, PRIDE OF INDIA Award from the Pacific Association of Indians in California and many more This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. I am an MD. Cardiologist too, and it is since 13 years I have taken a pill unless for tooth issues that i had 4 yrs back, every word of this man are very true, this topic needs more marketing and i do hope situations will change.

This is 100% true.. I started following Dr. B M hedge from 2017. From 2017-2022 I have consumed only 2 tablets. Earlier it was like 3-4 tablet in a month especially for headache. I used to have a medical kit in my home with all kind of pills.

I respect the disclaimer provided by Ted as there is a conflict on thoughts with several other speakers on so many levels. But I am glad they posted it and hope they endorse the thoughts of Dr Hegde. As an alumini of the University wherein he was once the vice chancellor he knows the flaws in the healthcare system in India and what he endorses in what people of this country need to hear. So many people spend their lifetime of savings blindly believing hospitals which have to keep increasing profit per bed for their shareholders. Sad people don't talk about it.
I can listen to this Doctor for ever and all my life. Amazing and very true. I am a Psychologist and and his lectures are a hypnotic takes one to a trance and keeps one very close to reality.

I am not RNI - resident in India - but I live in America with my values. no artificial chemicals used for past 35 yrs , never put on makeup/lipstick etc., try hard to use my own reusable stuff. go onto nature walks etc. I do work in tech industry but I try my best to live with less chemicals. home remedies and one important thing go to bed at a decent hour not abuse tv and lights . Everyone keep reminding me oh you go to bed early..with a sarcastic smile -- but I know it is best for me and I do not care. I eat when hungry , drink water when thirsty and sleep when sleepy. no doctor needed so far.
Just a little introspective. Many women used to die in child birth, infections etc., Also polio , small pox etc. got cured with western research and medicine. Again I agree current medical system is corrupt and need fixing. People should also do not demand immediate relief with a pill for everything. He does have good points and take it in moderation.
