Here I am again!😁 LOL, the corn Cobb butter knife...Reminds me of that saying 'someone's junk is another man's treasure'!! So, we did not put nearly the time into selling 'everything' but I found bundling worked well...Another idea! We made a lot of money on client gifts that we paid nothing for and it was fun to see all the 'free' money!!! On another note, the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon has a Lalique room full of beautiful jewelry and art pieces! The entire museum is nothing short of incredible so go when in Lisbon!! Enjoy your summer!

One of the last things we sold a day before we left was what we called a "Kitchen Starter Set" which included slow cooker, blender, hand-mixer, etc...It's all how it's presented! 😉😆. It’s true. You would be surprised to what people are willing to buy. I sold a half used bottle of sunscreen once that I paid 18 USD new and sold it for 10 bucks. Blew me away someone actually bought it off me on eBay. They wrote me a great 5 star review.
Hi Doug and Monique, when we were selling our home in California we hired an Estate Sale company, it was the best thing we could’ve done! All we had to do is pack our bags! We left things in drawers, clothes hanging in closets, things under bathroom sinks! It was so easy! The company charges 45% of the sales but for us we would’ve paid more! We also hired housecleaning so our sale and move was the easiest! We probably would have made more money but the stress free way we did really set us a ease, and made the move so easy! Also, we found a restaurant in Funchal that is excellent! Fresh seafood, great service and beautiful atmosphere! The restaurant is “Casal De Penha” it’s behind an Irish pub. For the last two years we have been considering retirement in Portugal. Your videos have pushed us over the edge and we have begun the process of sell off and taking the necessary next steps. We are very interested in both northern Portugal and Madeira, currently favoring Madeira. We expect the process to take about a year to 18 months but the journey has begun. We enjoy your insights, personalities and perspectives.

Fun times, we were exhausted after watching video. The house is up for sale and in the midst of organizing, sorting, selling, donating, giving to friends and family etc. in less than 6 months. Thank you for all the tips and websites. Just curious, since Doug has a handle on selling. Did you sell your house yourself or use a realtor? It was exhausting filming it - brought back sellers-burnout memories! 😂 Good for you guys! We left the selling of our house to the real professionals (had a friend who was a top-seller in that department) and SO glad we didn't take that on ourselves too. With the timeline of selling/downsizing to an apartment, the retirement process, visa process, etc., etc., it would have been a bit too much. Good luck guys and all the best! ~ Doug & Monique.
I admire you for doing this video. I’m sorry but I couldn’t watch it! The whole experience of selling up/ giving away our personal possessions is still to raw on our nerves! Not because they were personal but the sheer effort and hassle created by flakey buyers and people haggling over pennies. For us… the big learning is, start about a year before you leave! Add to that the amount of time spent working for all those near worthless possessions - decades of salaries! It might actually be beneficial to invite younger members of the extended family to estimate how long it would take to work to purchase the mountains of STUFF! Sobering thought! I think Portuguese wine was made to dumb down such thoughts and it has worked for us. Saying all of that, Portugal has cured our moving stress and we couldn’t be happier! Final part of D7 visa in 3 weeks.
Ha ha - opens up too many old wounds - we would feel the same! You are so right about that - looking back, the amount of time and effort we put into was huge, and some of the buyers... 😤😩. But living here has made all that a distant memory, and well-worth the effort we feel! Great news about the D7 - congrats! Doug & Monique
@@Track_Us_Down Someone tried to haggle over the price of some kitchen chairs by REDUCING the price they wanted to pay by one British Pound at our front door after accepting the original price???? Most just did not arrive after we accepted their bid - total timewasters!

Hi there! We really learned a lot from this segment! We were wondering if you had any advice on selling a gun. It's a Glock and we live in a town of 45,000 people in Arizona with 3 or 4 gun shops. Is it best to take it to a gun shop and take what they offer? Thanks in advance. Love you guys!
Thank you for this feedback.. this video was getting a bit long 😄. That's a good question about the Glock (I had to give mine back when I retired 😂). However, other long-guns I had, I sold to colleagues. I looked at online forum-type sites, sort of like the eBay of firearms, as well as Cabelas consignment shop, but at the end of the day, it was easier and quicker to sell to friends. You're right about one thing for sure though, when selling everything and getting ready for a big move, no matter who you sell to, the freedom that comes with just "taking what they offer" can be well worth it. Hi there! We found the best place to see gold jewelry was a shop in town that purchased gold. For other jewelry EBay seemed to be a good platform. What we did decide to keep we were able to pack in 2 large and 2 carry on suitcases and we transported it on the airplane ourselves. Along with our large dog!!! Yes- we were “ those people” lol! Hi Holly! We sold the diamond ring to a jeweler in our city. Unfortunately diamonds do not have high resale value, for the gold you get the going price. We did sell other items such as diamond earring on eBay as we had certification for them. Good luck! Thanks for watching! Cheers! M&D
