I was Lucky enough to see them 35 times. I went to the last show at the Palace. I met all the members thru the years by stage diving. And met Joey off stage at the US armory in Carpenteria Ca. They Changed my Life in 1978.

MrNorthernSol English punk was very diverse - Rotten may not have liked them, but the arrival of the first Ramones album was a huge influence on many bands, who were probably listening to the Stooges and MC5 also (and Patti Smith, and Television... and the Saints...) and for many it was just down to how fast they could learn not to sound awful so they could get out there and be part of their local scene... which was what made it exciting for all concerned.

The whole "fight" thing between the Pistols and The Ramones was a publicity stunt by Malcom. Johnny doesn't "do violence" at all and it was just Malcom being a jerk. They actually were very impressed by the Ramones.
Johnny did in fact think the Ramones were a rough crowd, a gang even. I think it's written in Please Kill Me. The Ramones knew that and were kind of mad that the Pistols were giving punk this kind of nonsensical image. Joey mentions it in another interview.

Johnny did in fact think the Ramones were a rough crowd, a gang even. I think it's written in Please Kill Me. The Ramones knew that and were kind of mad that the Pistols were giving punk this kind of nonsensical image. Joey mentions it in another interview.

The Ramones were 'fun' in their own words and making music for teens...the Pistols were attempting something else entirely
