    if anyone here has an issue like this with their Lexus or Toyota vehicle with that damn voltage sense shit...hit up Mike! instagram.com/singeralternators - i been riding with this for 2 weeks and it's working great! Still no battery light! thanks a lot Mike! Remember...for those that did not read what i wrote. The Mechman alternator isn't at fault...it is the CAR that decides what it does. So this allows your HO alt (or even stock) to give you the 14.5+ you need! thanks for watching!

  • @carnage50x
    @carnage50x 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've got a very similar pig tail on my car. the stock alt and stock wiring. I would get 13.8 on cold start. it'll go down to in 13.2 while hot. I beefed up the wiring and that improved a lot then got a pig tail. now on cold starts I get 15volts and when it warms up it sits at a happy 14.2-14.5volts depending on RPM and temp of alt. mostly did this for my fuel pump. the stock wiring for the fuel pump is no good and gets really bad voltage drop. so the more volts I send the less drop. after the voltage increase, you can hear the pump screaming now. also a benefit is louder radio, brighter headlights, and faster windows.

    • @meade916
      @meade916  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      beefing up the wiring will do nothing in a Lexus IS. I don't know about your car but not this one.

    Hey Steve,
    I see in this vehicle your running 2-8” shallow subs on a t2500bd-cp amp
    Can you explain why so big of an amp on such a small speaker sub set up?? I’m just curious the benefits. Also can you show how to tune back the amp to match the subs so they won’t blow. Obviously that amp is way more than needed, I have always wondered how to properly tune back an amp properly if its to much power for a sub or set of subwoofers. Nice job fixing your issue, it’s great having the right connections for sure

    • @benigo15
      @benigo15 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If Steve doesn't give you an answer this is my explanation. His two t2500bd-cp are only running the ascendant audio 15. The t1000.4ad is running the 2 p3 shallow 8's and the 4 t5 mids. This is all coming from memory of 6-7 years ago when he posted the videos of this build so take it with a grain of salt.

    So, my question would be: Why would engineers limit voltage in the first place? I'm sure a team of electrical engineers did this for a good reason. What are some potential risks when bypassing the limit, if any? Is this a "free" mod in terms of performance gain?

    • @trialsmart
      @trialsmart 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      More or likely because a standard car with stock electrics doesnt demand that amount of voltage. Theres no point in pumping 14+ volts if nothing requires it.

    • @ClumsyCars
      @ClumsyCars 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fuel mileage. Basically puts out just enough to keep up.

    • @razielm2000
      @razielm2000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Martin Reynolds Yeah, but from an engineering perspective if 14.x doesn't harm anything, it's cheaper to not do anything. So the cost of engineering the solution had some perceived value. In contemplating this, my intuitive assumption would be something to do with safety at the power sockets, since most devices are expecting to "see" 12-ish volts. But 2 volts usually isn't enough to harm something in that range. Again, it's just an intellectual curiosity, and I'd be interested in finding out a more definitive reasoning. Thanks for the reply!

    • @ClumsyCars
      @ClumsyCars 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fuel mileage and efficiency. I already told you the reason, lol.

    • @razielm2000
      @razielm2000 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      pdgeman I didn't see your response at the time. However your answer seems reasonable, but the mechanism of action isn't clear. The alternator doesn't have load control that is variable, at least as I can tell. Since the EMF of the Alt is dependent on the RPM, then by limiting the voltage downstream your not saving energy at the Alt, like you're not turning it slower. So, if you could elaborate on how this might influence gas mileage I'd be interested in hearing it. Thanks man.

    • @singaboy311
      @singaboy311 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Jeremy
      the 2012 uses a LIN bus system which will make the alternator still charge if it is unplugged. This will bypass the vehicle
      having any control of lowering the voltage at the default set point (which should be between 14.0-14.6V cold/warm)
      So there is not a bypass that exists on this system but you can just run the alt unplugged and it will still charge to go around it

      @jasonsullivan324 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Crank 760 because it take voltage to make power (watts) with him getting more consistent voltage he make the power that the amps should without voltage drop

    • @ChrisValle321
      @ChrisValle321 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The higher your vehicle voltage the more power your amps can put out.
      Amps are typically rated at anywhere from 12-14.4v so to get the full max power out of an amp you need to get your voltage as close to 14.4 as possible (even on a 12v rated amp). Its basshead min/maxing.

      Alot of car audio electronics are also very sensitive to the range of voltage that it needs to safely operate in. To low of voltage for extended amounts of time can be harmful.
      And a couple of tenths of a volt can actually be quite a significant amount when you see its effect in watts.

    On most vehicles (Maybe not on your Lexus) bypassing the ELD is as simple as grounding the proper wire so the alternator gives 100% output full time. The idiot engineers added the ELDs thinking it saves fuel? Maybe it does, but how much? Really? On my 08 Acura I isolated the proper wire, cut it, and ran a small switch to ground. That way I can choose when the alternator gives me full output. I do have a minor ELD fault code with my Snap Modis, but it's not a hard code, and has never gave me a battery or check engine light. Just some fyi for guys who may be on a tight budget like myself. That is for sure a very cool pigtail for your application though Steve.

    • @meade916
      @meade916  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i would NEVER recommend people just start grounding wires on their alternator plug. That is asking for disaster. That is not the case on most vehicles at all. I know you mean well though.

    • @twinkyunouwantmycreamfilli8297

      There are some good qualities with the eld feature. A little fuel economy, better battery/alt life...
      Though, im not sure alts actually ever really output 100%. Depends on how you look at it i guess.

    I have a 07 trailblazer with a mech man 270 alt and that stupid EPM shit too and it does the same thing. Tried deleting it and battery light comes on and doesn't seem to make a difference. I need one of those in my life! Lol. Called mechman a few times and they helped a little bit but it still wasn't a fix like that. Mechman alt hate those things. Lol

    Is charging at mid 13s really that big of an issue? To my understanding the alternator only really kicks in when it's needed and not at idle (except for maybe 20 amps or so). Is the high voltage just preferred for battery maintenance?

    • @fornarnia8
      @fornarnia8 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's just an issue for people who want the most out of their aftermarket audio equipment. More voltage = more power.

    • @DracolegacyOfficial
      @DracolegacyOfficial 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      just like john said its for audio performance. there are some amps that run all the way up to 16 volts input in order to get maximum power out of it. but most of all, its nice to get what you paid for. all that money for high end equipment only to have your car's computer kick you in the nuts, not fun.

    • @singaboy311
      @singaboy311 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI jesse
      it will decrease drag torque for performance which is why Lexus and toyota set it low (this is better for gasoline)
      Any basshead like steve or other people that want more performance from the alt without pushing it too hard like the boost mod.
      It will yield a considerable amperage gain at peak and idle the way this one is made
