  • The M9 bayonet is an excellent knife to add to any collection. I have been extremely impressed with the the usefulness of this bayonet, and I am proud to own one.
    I really like the Generation 4 version by Phrobis. The sheath compliments the knife very well in being a useful tactical and survival tool - having a sharpener, wire cutter, screw driver and accessory pouch. The knife itself is a good overall 12 inch length, with an excellent sawback, guard and ergonomic handle grooves.

    Thanks for a great video on a fantastic piece of history! I was issued a new 3rd Gen Phrobis III in the Army Infantry in the late 80's and carried it into combat in Desert Storm in '91. Loved that knife/bayonet! It took everything I could throw at it. *After getting out of the service, I always regretted not "acquiring" that knife!!! ; ) I finally picked up a new 4th Gen Phrobis III, this week, from Sportsman's Guide for about $162. Should be here any day now! Thanks for the video...now I'm psych'd!

      Thanks for the background story - I have heard quite a few guys talk about how much they hated theirs or it broke. Others say it was one of their favorite tools. I think they are iconic badass knives! Enjoy yours as well and thanks for your service!

    After seeing the Loss destruction video, of the Russian AK-47 bayonet, vs. the U.S.A. M-9 bayonet, I'M very happy I bought the my bayonet at my neighborhood pawn shop for around $40.00 ( mint ), and now I see, it also doubles as a sufficient survival knife too, Thanx for the video.

    That's a good solid bit of kit. A good bayonet is more than just a cutting tool, its about getting up and taking the fight forward into the enemy, screaming blue murder, and putting the fear into them. A modern symbol of destructive power. The bayonets we got issued were crap and would break even on exercise, so i'm thankful that i never had to do it for real. Although many others have done since. All the best. Phil.

    I wouldn't recommend putting a lanyard on any knife as the lanyard may entangle on Branch's or limbs of the tree and your hand will continue on as the knife stops a severe cut to your fingers may result, the only type lanyard I would suggest would a clip that holds your knife within its sheath , if you are worried about loosing your knife try wearing the knife on your chest so you can see it clearly returned to its sheath ,in this position you will notice much quicker if the knife is in fact missing therefore finding it may be easier , just always make sure all your tools are always secure as loosing them may be a fatal mistake in a survival situation

    • @MrLeonidas0001
      @MrLeonidas0001  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well all arguments aside I just like having a lanyard on my knife. They can get in your way but Ive never had one seriously impede my work. And they are great for marking your knife easier to see if you do have to put it down.

  • @AerodynamicBrick

    i know this video has been out for a while, but the "blood grove" is primary for weight reduction, but it helps keep the blade from sticking as a side effect of the groove

    • @MrLeonidas0001
      @MrLeonidas0001  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      USCommando Its all good. A lot of false information and tall tales abound with "blood grooves". Not sure if you watched all the way through but I did address this issue in the video. I agree its for weight reduction and overall balance and sure if you stabbed into something or someone it might help you out a bit. Cheers and thanks for commenting!

    • @AerodynamicBrick
      @AerodynamicBrick 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did, but the grove does help with the knife from sticking is a effect that was not planned but it is an effect that most people complain about even though the knife sticking inside of someone is actually rare to encounter and it is almost unnoticeable in combat

  • @survivalkraft
    @survivalkraft 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great looking knife! I would like to pick up one of those. Quick question: How long is the tang on that knife?

    • @MrLeonidas0001
      @MrLeonidas0001  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree! Hell of a knife! The tang is a round metal tube that attaches the pommel and the blade together - and it goes from the guard to the end cap, but is not truly a "full tang", but is more like a Ka-Bar fighting knife. Works pretty good I think! Cheers Brendon and good luck with the giveaway!

    Way late, however, one can have a wonderful knife that isn't full tang. Unless you are going to engage in a sword fight, full tang is one of the least important features of a knife. A piece of junk can be full tang, and a quality knife doesn't have to be full tang.

    The upper strap that's holding onto the handle is for when you attach the knife to your belt it leans downwards towards your leg and its rattling everywhere, but the upper strap that you dont like is holding the knife tightly upwards so it doesnt swing everywhere and hit your leg.
    Anyway my first collide with the M9 was in a game called combat arms and I thought "damn this knife is badass as shit" but never found the original version, ive been wanting this knife since 2010 and recently they started making those cheap m9 copies from the game cs go which is ok but it doesnt have that badass sheath and it has huge saws on its back and i decided not to buy it. I went today in a store in my city to buy a Ka-bar (classic one) and suddenly saw this beast of a knife just standing there, my reacting was "what the fuck" and yeah it was waiting for me. Today's the day I got one, a classic M9 exact copy of what's shown in the video, and im happy as shit. Beast is the word to describe this knife, defintitelly worth the money

      +Piero Csb I am not an expert in bayonets and I am not sure of all the differences. I know most of the Ontario ones come with a black coating on the blade and the sheaths are different. And I think Ontario still has contracts with the military to make bayonets - although wouldn't be surprised to see them all phased out in the next decade. Other than that not too sure! On the subject of using your knife as a spear head by lashing it to a stick ,well I just don't see the reasoning behind this if you do this and you throw your only knife that you have let's say at a wild boar and you hit the the boar,,success I hear you say well I'm sorry to let you down but unless you are Robbin hood the boar will only be wounded and will run away with your knife sticking out its side so of course you give chase, the animal is now scared and very dangerous he also has your knife! don't part with knife a sharpened stick as a spear is a better idea but not just one but several in case you miss the first time

      I personally dont throw knives I care about & Ive never put a primary knife on a spear. Some of that mentality is the old school Rambo style of "use my knife for everything even for ridiculous stuff". In theory its good to have "options" for your knife but its better to stay realistic. Most survival schools nowadays teach you to never lose sight of your knife either.
