- This weekend George & I headed out to a local to us nursery to try and find a specifc Japanese Maple called Skeeters Broom. While we didn't find this tree in stock, we did come home with a beautiful new shrub. This nursery is beautiful, and while its a little bit of a drive for me, I do try to visit a couple of times a season. Briggs Nursery is located in Attleboro Massachusetts. Are you local, and have you been? Comment below. Thanks for watching - Steph (Gardening in Massachusetts zone 6b) #homedepot #homedepotgardencenter #gardentour

Did you know the ginkgo is one of the oldest tree species? Fun fact 👍
That is such a cool fact!! I did not know that! Thanks Alyson!
Thank you for sharing this with us, I did not know that😊
Also, be careful... the female trees produce flowers that smell horrible...!!!... like "baby-spit-up".
Maybe some of the newer varieties are sterile.
Steph, I truly enjoyed your tour of the nursery. I live in zone 6b also in Il. Your suggestions help me since I am a new gardener.(77 yrs old) Thanks for your tour. Take care.
Briggs is my happy place. They have a great cafe too!

Gorgeous nursery! Can't wait to see how your new plant does in your garden next year, Steph! 🤗
Love Briggs! I live in Providence and the drive is totally worth it. I was there a few weeks ago and the bulbs weren't in yet, seeing your update is so helpful!
Definitely worth the drive! They looked like they were starting to stock the bulbs last weekend.
I grew up in South Korea, where large, mature ginko trees often lined sidewalks and school yards. In the fall, they put on an amazing show that lasts more than a couple of days if I remember correctly. I also very distinctly remember the smell of the nuts they form. Ginko nuts are very delicious, esp roasted or cooked along with some rice.
Thank you so much for sharing this memory!! 🌱
Fabulous nursery. I enjoyed the tour.
Hi Steph, the plant you referred to as Cotton-Easter is actually pronounced Co-TONE-EE-aster. I pronounced it like you did until I got clued in. I had several of those a few yrs ago until I realized they were trying to take over the yard. They can get huge, they are also super stiff. I took out two and cut the others back by 2/3. I had the ground cover type also and took all of those out as they were a catch alll for oak leaves and dog hair. They look good from a distance as they are evergreen with the red berries and are covered with tiny white flowers in spring. BTW Iḿ in Ca. zone 9b
Thanks Heidi!! Sometimes its deceptive in how the name reads. Good to know its quite an ambitious grower!
Great Nursery! What an awesome selection of plants and decorative items. Thanks so much for the tour!
You are so welcome Jolinda!
I love nursery tours. I enjoy finding new nurseries that I haven’t been to. You always find new and unusual plants. I try to put a little clip into my videos as well.

Hi Steph,
Wow what a nice garden center!! I Love the specimens you showed!! I'm going to write some of them down and look for them I have to do some plantings this fall. Thank you so much for sharing!! I look forward to your videos!! Happy Autumn!!🎃🍂🍁
Thank you so much Jeanine! Glad you enjoyed checking out this nursery. They were so well stocked with seasonally appropriate plants which was wonderful. Hope you find some of the ones you jotted down. Thanks for watching, and for being here, I appreciate you! 💚
Thank you for your efforts with the pronunciation of “anemone”. So many people mispronounce it. I enjoy your videos.
Its a work in progress...it just doesn't roll off my tongue that easily. Trying 😊
Briggs is my favorite! I love the cafe too :)
Hi Steph, Its great!! My husband and son had a snack at the cafe while I shopped, it was perfect!
@@HookedandRooted I imagine that is part of the reason the cafe is there! I love going with my sister for lunch and shopping :) If you haven't been at Christmas, Briggs has beautiful ornaments and Christmas decorations.
Thật tuyệt vời , Bạn đã cho tôi biết đến một khu vườn trồng và bán đủ loại cây, hoa... 👍🌷🌷🌷
Was there too, wish I had bumped in to you 😅 love Briggs
Oh that would have been fun!! I have occasionally run into viewers at a nursery and I always enjoy chatting!
Love plant shopping! thank you!
Great quality plants! What a tease !
I got talked into a leucothoe a couple years ago, Gerard's Rainbow. Paid $48, which was a lot when trying to add statement pieces to a very bare area, but I loved the leaf colors. Hope you have better luck with yours. I moved mine from place to place to place, put in a container trying to revive it. Nothing worked, it's dead now. Otherwise, I loved your tour of the nursery. I hope to visit that area again soon.
Hi there, Oh I'm so sorry yours didn't do well. Thank you!! Such a great nursery,
Oh Steph I wasn't planning to make another trip to Briggs this year, but I am intrigued and will most likely go early next week. It sure is a fun place to go and the cafe is great too.Still loving your site. Hope yoou found what you wanted. Alice from Bridgewater
Hi Alice! They had a great amount of inventory and selection. It's definitely worth picking up a tea or coffee to enjoy, and taking a ride over. Hope you have a great visit should you decide to go 🌱🌾
It’s pronounced ca-tone-e-aster. Such a beautiful nursery.
Thank you!!
Hi Stef🌺 . I enjoyed watching this beautiful video of the amazing plants in the nursery .The plant leucothoe rainbow looks so beautiful . Have awonderful day. 🌺🌻🌺
Thank you so much Lina! I'm excited to get it planted in my garden 💚🌱
The plant you purchased is so beautiful, I used to have one and I planted it in a pot, unfortunately it didn’t survive, I think I planted too many stuff in the same pot and it got choked…I would buy it again if I see it. What a beautiful nursery and thanks for bring us along with you. ❤
Thank you Cindy! I'm sorry yours didn't make it.
Looks like a fabulous nursery. I have two small rainbow leucothes and love them. The foliage is colorful and changes throughout the year. Mine are planted in part shade next to a pond and the deer and rabbits absolutely don't bother them.
That sounds lovely! Thank you for sharing Susan! Good to know that deer and rabbit don't bother it in your garden.
Execelente dia
That’s great prices for evergreens to bad it’s so far from Michigan.
Hi Amy! I hope you can find a similar nursery near you 💚
💖👍🏻💖
It’s pronounced Cotone -Aster, great plants at Briggs
Just b/c I pronounced it wrong for years, too: FYI it’s “ka-tone-eee-aster” 😊 it totally looks like it should be cotton Easter 😂 in fact that sounds much more festive. Maybe we should stick w/ that... 🐣
Oh! Just got to the end of the vid - I have a Rainbow Leucothoe as well and it’s one of my favourite shrubs! It’s beautiful all summer and fall. Blooms are inconsequential (to me, anyway); it’s the cool foliage pattern and colours and it’s unique drooping habit that is gorgeous. Definitely recommend 👍 That and my trio of My Monet Sunset weigelas are the big hit shrubs in my front garden that people ask me about a lot. Oh, and Drops of Jupiter oregano. Perennial but with a shrub like habit in my garden - a drift would be a decent ground cover also once they really establish.
The shrub (cotoneaster) is pronounced Ka toe knee ass ter. Just learned that a few years ago.
Thank you!!
I buy my Japanese Maples online from Mr. Maple.
Does daffodils bulbs needs to be chilled in refrigerator before planting in pot. I live in texas zone 8a
Hi there, In warmer climates spring bulbs do typically benefit from a cool period. Here's an article I found on this for you to check out: www.longfield-gardens.com/article/how-to-grow-spring-bulbs-in-warm-climates#:~:text=Most%20spring%2Dblooming%20bulbs%2C%20including,bulbs%20so%20they%20bloom%20properly.
Just to let you know, Leucothoe gets eaten to the ground in my garden. Zone 6, CT.
Hi Jane! That is great to know. I'll be sure to offer it some protection until I see how it goes. Thank you!!
Could you tell me if a dieffenbacha is an outdoor plant to be planted outside ?? Will it come back ?? I'm in zone 8b
Hi Sharon, I garden in a zone 6. For us that is an indoor houseplant that could be brought outdoor during the warmer months, than brought back inside when the weather begins to cool. Its possible that it is hardy in your zone to be planted outdoors. I would check on google to be sure.
@@HookedandRooted thank you . I watch your video's all the time . I am watching the video you posted 3 hrs ago at Briggs nursery 😊😊 you always inspire me and can't wait to start my fall planting 😁👍🥰
Grow asters not mums for the polinaters
ca tone e aster
Mr. maple in North Carolina has around 300 varieties of Japanese maples that can be ordered online or by phone. You should see if they have what you are looking for.
Hi there! Thank you! We were looking for a larger specimen, so we were hoping we could find one locally. But you are correct, they have many varieties available.
If you get a ginkgo make sure it’s a male. The female fruit has a horrible smell and is messy.
That I did know, Thank you so much for sharing Kay! Nobody wants a stinky messy tree 🤪
😂 I think most of us gardeners have the “Nemo” 🐟 moment trying to pronounce “anemone” be it the plant or the sea type 🌸 🪸 (Needless to say, Steph, I am adding some of the plants you’ve mentioned to my “gotta have it and plant it list ” ✍🏼
lol, I love Nemo!! You know Mari, I had a perfectly fine way of saying it, but then I had a few comments indicating I was saying it wrong, and I tried my best to say it how they said it should be pronounced. It just didn't work for me, so I'll be going back to pronouncing it how it rolls out of my mouth best. I love Anen-no-me!! I have 3 varieties in my garden now. Such pretty late season plants. Happy plant shopping & gardening!! 💚
Gorgeous nursery! Can't wait to see how your new plant does in your garden next year, Steph! 🤗
Thanks Mary! Looking forward to finding a spot for it in the garden.
