Idk, from my perspective as someone who has a PNW accent where we drop endings and parts of words to make them flow faster I am jealous of the syllable-based construction of Japanese
But also yeah, the VAs are awesome too
While the Japanese Witness is good, there's something so imposing about the English Witness. That deep male voice mixed with the higher pitched female voice, it's awesome.

@@IQDESTRUCTOR Dalton is the main voice but the collective voice is the majority of the VA's.
Vastly prefer English Witness, but Japanese Calus and Nezarec are both pretty great.
I kind of prefer English Witness. Their voice is more neutral, like you hear male and female reverb, which lends itself to the Witness being something beyond our comprehension. Plus English Witness has such a nihilistic tone, until they get angry.
JP sounds evil right out the gate, but not as ominous.
Destiny 2 the anime
Actually, it does sound like a good premise for shonen series. I mean, we have an army of gun-toting space wizards who have fought and killed gods, time-bending robots, pirates, giant honourbound warriors, a defeated villain turned hero and the Witness and it’s Disciples just being so…extremely dramatic at all times.

Dude the Japanese VA ALWAYS nail the villains and characters so god damned well. Try halo in Japanese for instance the VA always blows my mind to oblivion and back.
Jap VA is, most of the time, overacted af, the only thing they nail is screaming with unnatural voice.
Yeah sure you haven't heard Rhulk in Japanese 😂, and I honestly wouldn't advise you to do so.

Calus in Japanese sounds almost exactly like I would imagine.
I like how the Witness sounds more alien in the Japanese version as opposed to the English version. From the English version, I got a sense of both suffocating fear and mysterious calm, and this sounds like the Witness truly is something different from everything we've seen before.
Japanese Nezarec is much better than calus or the witness imo. For these two I prefer the english version

I prefer the english VA's for them tbh. The english version of the Witness is much more haunting and intangible sounding.
Calus I think sounds fine, though I prefer his OG English. His English VA I feel has the lovecraftian horror voice nailed down to a T.
The Witness on the other hand, I quite like its Japanese voice. Witness's Japanese VA just has this inimical edge to it that I feel the original English was missing. No shade towards the English VAs at all of course, I just wish the Witness had less of a calm demeanor when speaking, and more of an air of inimicality to it.

The Witness isn't really supposed to have that characteristic though. It isn't a villain, it's a cold, ancient entity. It doesn't appear have ill intent towards individuals, otherwise it likely would have wiped out the Vanguard with a swipe of its fingers at the battle in orbit. It simply has a goal of achieving the Final Shape, and sees us not as enemies but as obstacles.
@@evanwilley4064 that’s an interesting way to look at it. Especially with what it said to the Traveller at the end of Lightfall. Plus it claims to be our salvation, here to answer our “cries for help”, so it likely does view us as a race that was meant to give way so a stronger one could live, all working towards the Final Shape.
Was really expecting these to blow the English out of the water but damn, the English VAs really fucking nailed it.

I don't have that clip. I accidently deleted the recording with the second Calus and Witness cutscene. I've already played threw the campaign with my two other guardians.
Oh my god the kanji for the Witness has such a criminal-proceedings-undertone to it that I absolutely adore!
It’s so much cooler when you can’t understand that they’re yapping about the veil.
They should have worked in a fenale voice actor into the Wintness' vocal layers. I feel it would have matched what they were going for in the english dub more.

The reason why the English version sounds better is the same reason why English dubs of anime sound worse. The script was written in another language so it will always sound off.

in truth it is quite the opposite, it's not easy at all and in fact it came out badly in the Japanese dubbing; it's too aggressive intonation, totally out of character

latin spanish and japanese calus became my favorite, but witness sounds quite a bit better in latin spanish, but just for a bit only.

You can change the language in Steam, though I forget exactly how.

@@evidant I'd honestly say the English one does this so much better. It has a variety of voices. You can hear masculine, feminine, high, low voices in the Witnesses's echoes. Check out the Lightfall reveal trailer, you can really hear it there

As somebody who watches Japanese media a fair bit. English witness is just fine. Neither is better it’s just a different language. And for that matter LIGHTFALL WAS GOOD CRY ABOUT IT
