- This is one of many videos from Mike Phelan and Paul McGuiness from Mike Phelan Coaching creating scenarios on the pitch and giving some insight and direction on how to improve your play in different areas and also how to coach this using different tactics.

if you orient to the position of the defense, you do the "esandinha" instead of the "play up" where the mechanics are slow and awkward, for instance the first player might "pin" and then slip wide on the exchange while the top guy checks down then you have the "escandinha" ladder in place when they play up the turn down field so the defender never sees the ball and you effectively build a line of control that triggers the automation
We call it “contro movimento” in Italy, the movement he uses to lose the marker
Guardiola would say of Roberto Baggio, whom he had the privilege to play with in Brescia, he would always “feint” towards the marking player before moving to receive the ball
*Which is exactly the movement shown here, it’s a brilliant explanation
It made me realize why I don’t get the ball passed, even when I’m in the “right” space: I’m standing still and my team mate knows I’m half a second from being pressed
This might be the most important football video for my development, thank you coach
@@liviodinaj6105 but you can't have counter movement against a zone defense / that won't work / so u think the drill is flawed and robotic?
❤🔥
Glad you enjoyed it
I think you have to talk about a line of control here... not space, the line of control in relation to the defense
also, in brazilian, urugyan and argentinian futbol each of these has an actual name, otherwise its just seems like you have to think about all this on the fly?
That’s really interesting, do you know the names ?
Mike the orientation to the quadrants seems artificial, why not "orient" based on the position and disposition of the defense?
