    We have used the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

    If you set your heater parallel to your trailer, you could run a similar duct in next to the other one in your plywood. Then you could draw the warmed air from your trailer into the heater, then back inside. This would be much more efficient, just like you said.
    I really like your use of the harder non flexible duct work which looks to me like it would stand up much better than the flexible stuff blowning around in a windy winter storm. Good video.

    We have been doing this same thing for the last couple years. We place ours under the trailer so as not to be open to theft. We also added an extension cord to the controler and run it up and into the trailer. One thing that I did notice is that your muffler/silencer is upside down. There is a drain hole that needs to be pointed down in order to drain. Good video. Idid a video on an AC that I installed in this sort of manner. I probably should do one on the heater like your video.

    That plywood panel looks like it was made for that window excellent job. If you are a little concerned about the Co2 coming through the intake fan and maybe into your camper you can test it with a hand held Co2 meter; right where the hot air gets pumped into the Camper. I have what appears to be the same Diesel Heater but the digital display appearance is difference. I constructed a piece of plywood on my apt window with a mounting plate from one of the Diesel heater kits. I Cut a hole in the plywood mounted the plated and stuck the Hot exhaust pipe through the plate so the wood wouldn't burn. I've ran my heater this way for about a month now with 100% success. Only thing i need is to add is a Muffler which ill have to constantly put on and take off. I don't want that thing hanging out the window permanently. I live in the inner city so that should tell you a lot.

    Recirculating the intake air is more efficient and safer as it avoids pulling in the exhaust. Also you should insulate the hot metal duct. You are losing loads of heat through that. You can buy flexible insulated duct or wind insulation around it yourself.

    • @geenote
      @geenote  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, insulating the duct would be more efficient. It is still surprising how hot the air is coming into the camper. I can't hold my hand in front of the inside vent for very long. Thanks.

    • @escapetherace1943
      @escapetherace1943 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      recirculating is not more efficient, literally the opposite, you get a cleaner burn with cool/cold air and using inside air encourages air from the outside to leak in through your gaps..... There is zero chance of danger pulling in the exhaust as long as the intake is 2 feet or more away from the exhaust. if you are paranoid make the intake further away but the gases disperse very fast once they leave the hose man, lol... I guess you could keep a CO detector in but almost no point especially with combustion outside. I run mine inside my sealed up shop and haven't had any issues

    • @Annon89
      @Annon89 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All heaters have a maximum heating potential so depending on outside temps the heater will only be able to increase the temp to a certain degree. Yes pulling your intake air back from the already heated inside will definitely lower that demand or in more technical terms lower your fuel usage. But something as small as a camper probably wouldn’t have to worry about it. I like how this window mount is used. I bought something similar for tent camping and it works amazing and barely uses any fuel. My setup is very similar to yours and it works great. Definitely much safer than a buddy heater or using some kind of wood stove or something similar.

      @@geenote An additional benefit to using the camper air as input to the heated space instead of outside air is you remove the CO (carbon monoxide) danger. The inside air is a closed loop and the CO cannot invade your breathable air without regard to how far you move the exhaust away from people. Additionally, there is no pressure differential when the input side and output side of the breathable air are the same space. When you draw fresh air from outside and try to compress it into the camper space, there is no place for it to go. The fan is trying to compress the air in the camper and the flow of air will slow down until the leak rate around every door, window and plumbing is maximized and then that will be your maximum input rate. Great videos.

    Since this happens as high as 32F/0C.

    • @geenote

    Does it have a thermostat some.say they do. how does the thermostat work is it in the remote in the all in one or how does that work?!

    • @geenote
      @geenote  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use the main controller to put the heater in temperature mode which works kind of like a thermostat. You can then use the main controller or remote control to adjust the temperature setting. The temperature sensor is inside the main controller so it needs to be in the room that is being heated. In this video, the temperature mode would not work since I have the unit sitting outside and the main controller is still attached to the unit. I have another video that shows me using this same heater inside my basement in which I can use the temperature mode effectively. A good thing to know is that when using the "temperature/thermostat" mode, the heater never actually shuts off. It will eventually just run at the lowest setting once the desired temperature is reached then run at a higher setting if things start to cool down. Hope this helps. Thanks!

    • @geenote

      If you look close you can see the small remote I use to start the unit. In this application, I use the "manual" setting that determines how fast the fuel pump cycles which controls the heat output. If the main controller is extended and mounted inside the heated area, then you can also set the controller to a specific temperature and the unit will try to maintain that temperature similar to a thermostat in your house. One big difference is the heater never actually shuts off when using the automatic temperature setting, it just drops to the lowest setting when the set temperature is reached.

    Thank you for the video on the basement install. May I ask why you choose to drag this heater with you camping vs. using the heater installed in the camper? Propane vs diesel costs? 12 volt battery consumption? You want the more powerful heat? You're just bored and want to play with something? I personally have both in my RV, but I built my diesel heater into the RV as a back up heat source. Again personally, I'm too lazy to fart around setting an external system each time. I am also very curious about your after market pump. I put mine in a sound deadening box but I would have preferred to just swap out the annoying pos pump if I could have found one.

    • @geenote

      The all-in-one style diesel heater is just an option for heat if someone feels they have a reason to use it. I can think of a few reasons why I would and wouldn't use this. I also use this heater to heat the camper shell on my truck in cold weather. Since I can't fit a sound deadening box inside my case, I swapped out the factory fuel pump with an "ultra quiet" version that isn't quiet at all. There was a slight improvement at best. Before you purchase one it might be worth checking out the installation video I posted. Thanks! th-cam.com/video/qI7er_ANJWE/w-d-xo.html

      These diesel heaters are waaaaay more efficient. You could stay out dry camping for weeks on less than 5 gal of diesel. The central heating in these trailers gobble up propane to the tune of roughly a gallon every three hours. Another problem with them is battery comsumption. They can pull around 8 to 9 amps. The diesel heaters only use about 9 amps for the short ignition time then only use just less than one amp. So, from the electrical and fuel perspective, diesel has propane beat 10-1. A portable 100 watt or better yet a portable 200 watt panel will keep the batteries topped off. I have the Renogy 200 watt suitcase panel and it is quite awesome. I also carry along a small generator but I try not to use it if possible. I have camped out in Idaho for a month and a half at a time. I use a Katadyn filter to gather water straight from the river. My only reason to go to town was to purchase damn propane. Two 30# bottles only last a week or two. I will be installing one of these in my trailer very soon.

      No, but I could see it happening if the wind was blowing just right.

  • @lzmotorsports
    @lzmotorsports 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Definitely mod this to suck air from the camper. No reason to heat ice cold air and you reduce the risk of exhaust getting pulled back in.

    • @geenote
      @geenote  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This set up is a quick option for a temporary, limited space, situation using an all in one style diesel heater. The extra long exhaust pipe keeps fumes away from the back of the unit where fresh air is pulled in and heated. Even though it may be heating very cold air, it still blows very hot air in the camper. - not too bad!

  • @vin9976
    @vin9976 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey I really like this but need the controls and thermostat INSIDE the camper. Any idea how to get that to work? Could I just extend the control wires? The heater will sit outside the camper only a few feet away. I’m gonna cut a hole for the heating duct but could also have some wiring come through.

    • @geenote
      @geenote  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can extend the wires by splicing into them. I also seen a wiring harness extension on Ebay which would make it easy. Thanks!

  • @MrjackieG

    You should not have the exhaust pipe going in any direction but down. Unburnt fuel could puddle making the heater dysfunctional.

    • @geenote
      @geenote  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I agree! The curve in the exhaust coming out of the heat chamber can also collect moisture. Luckily I don't leave it set up in one spot too long. Thanks!

    Why do you need electrical power if it’s diesel?

      The 12 volt DC battery is needed to run the blower, glow plug, fuel pump, and the control panel.

    nobody talk about the electricity these things use, its quite a bit. you gonna need to come up with a perpetual charging system on your rv battery

    • @geenote
      @geenote  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pulls 10 amp for a couple minutes on start up for the glow plug, then drops way down in amperage - especially on low setting.

      @@geenote yes, but who is keeping these things on low? they most certainly need to be on high to produce real heat, and that is the draw I'm referring to.

      Yes. If you are dry camping, you need to watch battery level - especially running on high.

      Search on Amazon and Ebay for 8kw all-in-one diesel heater. Many sellers with the same unit. I got mine off Amazon but is no longer available from the same seller. I just shut my unit down for the night. It heats my basement very well with no problems now for 2 years.

      Small hose air intake is only for the heat chamber to make fire. Fresh air coming in the back through the fan and across the outside of the heat chamber is heated and is what you breath. Research it....

    • @geenote
      @geenote  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right. That's why I keep it under a shelter. In this application, it is under the awning on the side of the camper. It could also sit on a table to get it off the ground.

      This is only an option for a temporary diesel heater set up. The camper is very small inside so this works great for me the few times I need it in cold weather. I use this portable, self contained, all-in- one style heater for a few other applications.
