I feel like I'm watching my younger self! I have 9 boys 2 girls and we did everything the old fashioned way as well. I am 60 now and my youngest is 16. I have been enjoying your videos so much. I admire you!
We have 8 Children, 6 Boys and 2 Girls and I'm 60 and loving all the old fashioned ways that we brought up our family, as a farming family, we have so many memories.
I'm watching my younger self as well! I'm 74 and have spent my homemaking years what I witnessed my grandmother do. My mother also, to a certain extent, but we were an Air Force career family pulling up roots every year or so instead of root vegetables. As I look forward to autumn, I woke up today with canning on my mind. Can't do it in summer any longer.
I want more kids but i am afraid i won’t have time for each of them. How are your kids doing in life? ☺️

We have ordered our life in a way that we are hoe with our kids and spend everyday with them schooling and living life.
I agree about adding color. I remember in Corrie TenBoon that everything was draped and gray in the concentration camp. Her sister Betsy told her when they got out they would use bright colors and lots of flowers and life. Let's bring that back. I think the gray thing was predictive. Lol. 😂

Agreed. I haven't broken down to decorate for fall yet as I finally kept my petunias alive past July. Soon, though, I think...soon.
Agreed! One thing I have been doing is buying "fake" decor. The real /natural is beautiful but unfortunately doesn't last. So I've been trying to buy a little each year of stuff that is reusable.
If you put hydrangeas upright in a jar or jug with about an inch or so water (just so the bottom of the stems are in the water) and by the time the water disappears, they will be dried and looking like you just picked them and not wilted. Been doing it for years like that.
I also find that I care much more about decor when it gets colder out; suddenly I'm inside a lot more, and how things look inside matters more. I love the way you decorate your home, and I'm excited to figure out our own style as we spend more time in our new home.
I agree! You just want things all nice and cozy and put together for those longer evenings inside.
I love interior design. I have lived in and remodeled 4 different houses. The house I live in now is a brick ranch style. I wanted to change it to look like another style. We painted the brick white. Replaced the windows with windows that are black trimmed. Our roof is black and grey. We built a porch on the front and put a black gazebo on that porch. Everyone loves it. The change of the color outside and the windows made this house pop. I decided that I wanted board and batten walls with ledges 3/4 up the wall. Above that I put up William Morris blackthorn wallpaper. The board and batten was painted white. We really love this house now. Our pastor visited and said the house looks like a farmhouse. I was so pleased. He said he lived in Maine at one time and thought our house looked like houses there. They use a lot of board and batten.
You put me to shame with your energy but I love all your decor ideas and love the recipes. I look forward to each post you do. You are very talented in so many ways. Admiration!!!

Your home is gorgeous, I love how you honor it history. You decorate it like a true old farmhouse. Beautiful, real, cozy, authentic ! I.also love how you incorporate mother nature inside to decorate. My mom, who would be almost 100, always used dried flowrts/pods/seeds/ weeds/branches...at Christmas always real every ! Thank you ! I enjoy seeing a home not engulfed in white !
The fact that you mentioned you and your daughter were looking at books to get inspiration for decorating is such a core memory i did with my momma❤ feed her soul,she will remember this❤
We planted pumpkins all along the front of our house this year - added a nice touch before they were ready to harvest, and then we had pumpkin decor for free!
Here in Scotland pulleys were the norm in the kitchens . With our weather ( lots of rain ) 😮 a pulley was a necessity for drying the clothes . Nowadays lots of people who are lucky enough to still have them, hang pots etc on them , and also decorate with dried flowers . The pumpkin bread looks amazing 👏

I absolutely love the pumpkin shaped bread. I also greatly enjoyed your decorating. As a disabled single 64 year old on a very tight budget. I love seeing how others decorate. Fall is my favorite time of year. Although I love all four seasons. I lived for many years in Central Florida where is is hot hot and hotter all year long, LOL.

Still my hero. 😄 Grew up in candle-loving family. Had candles on table every day for meals, and it was kind of an honor to be one to use candle snuffer. We had candle snuffer hanging on wall near table. Moving to current time...still love candles, but caved in and bought one...and then two large sets of battery-operated, larger candles. Have them on fireplace mantle and around room on pretty holders. LOVE safety of them and ease where one literally hits a remote to turn on and off. : ) Mine also has a timed option where it automatically comes on at dusk, which i set up. Nice to have beautiful light when one comes in door after dark. Might be pretty in your entry? Cannot say how much I love having safe and lazy candles around home now.
im a little over halfway in, the point you made about this 'look' being years in the making is so true! i've been making regular trips to thrift stores when we have a little money on the side working to add pieces to our home. last year there were some wonderful nature paintings donated to value village, i do believe all by the same artist, just someone local with a talented hand. i bought them all and we get compliments on them often. this year i managed to grab a tall wicket basket with linen liner, something that would normally be around 120-160 dollars new, i got it for 13! no more unsightly laundry hamper for us. watching your videos actually had me more mindful of the usefulness and beauty something in a basket brings. for years we've just kept diapers in the box they came in a corner or our living room. being able to put them in a nice wicket basket helps everything feel so much more put together. and last night my dad brought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers to celebrate the birth of my 5th child, our first girl. i was sad knowing it was going to die but i completely forgot that you can just hang them upside down to preserve them! i don't know how the lily's in the bunch will do but everything else is a nice sturdy drying variety that i know will look so nice. i always go off and write a novel in your comment section, you just get my brain gears turning lol.

We love decorating the front porch and the house for the fall and holiday season. I'm not sure if I will be putting much out this year though. We have a 1 year old and a 2 year old that are fascinated with all of mama's decorations and think they are toys lol.
I love the idea of growing Kale on ur porch! Mine is so shaded, but this will be a GREAT idea for it!
I recommend the House and Garden channel for inspo on incorporating color/pattern in a way that works for a heritage home. English interior design in general really helped me move away from neutral tones and into colors and textures that still felt lived in and timeless.

Every year I get pumpkins to decorate and then I use them for making into pumpkin purée. Pretty much all pumpkin varieties are safe to eat (I don’t know about canning, I freeze mine). You get to figure out that way which varieties you like and in the future I plan to grow the varieties I enjoy. I have loved doing it this way because then my pumpkins never go to waste!
Maybe next year your children can plant some pumpkin seeds to watch them grow into fall pumpkins for your beautiful porch. Seeds are quite reasonable. 🎃
I only have two (now very grown up) boys and one fulltime job and think I was on my feet all The time to keep everything in place and good form. You Seem to overcome soooooo much and you kan do everything with a baby tied to you body. Bless you woman.

Oh Lisa, I just had to comment on your video today. Absolutely one of my favorites. I watch all of your videos but today with your decorating so great. I grew up on a farm many years ago. The relatives we visited and surrounding neighbors were all farmers and your comment regarding adding color to your home and getting away from so much neutral… is in my opinion what makes all the difference and makes a Farmhouse a true farmhouse nothing against magnolia, but that’s not the farmhouse. I grew up in and visited, there was color there was a mix of things homemade things embroidered things heartfelt and cozy. To me, that’s a true farmhouse. God bless you and your family.

One tip I have read, and tried in my own home . . . don't try to decorate around the edges and doorways, corners, etc. Create a space around a rug in the middle. Leave natural walkways, but let them walk around the edges behind the furniture, at least on one or two sides of the sitting arrangement.

That bread 😋. A thought for your mantle/tv situation; the higher clock doesn’t have to be in the middle. It could be off to one side with the oil lamp on the other or something on a book or 2 to balance out the height on the other side.
one idea I have if you love wallpaper - but with the texture on the walls - why not add a curtain behind the headboard, but as wide as the bed. it would sort of act like tester bed look, but you could choose a pattern of fabric that might be what you would want if you had wallpaper and really make the bed feel SO cozy, especially in the fall, winter.
Was inspired to make your pumpkin cobbler yesterday. I adapted it to gluten free and dairy free by using a gluten free cobbler recipe for the crust portion. My family loved it and asked for it to be part of our Thanksgiving dinner.

As my youngest daughter and I are watching this video she was paying close attention to the painting you chose from the antique shop and says, “Mom! That’s a Renoir!” We have been learning extensively about the life of Renoir. That’s exciting! He painted that specific picture with the girls at the piano in the late 1800’s.

I do love how you change your decor for fall. Now that is a beautiful comforter. I have my eye on a comforter but hesitate getting it because we have a house cat who loves to knead on everything. She has snagged, and ripped 2 brand new blankets I purchased for our bed.
You could get her another, smaller thick throw to put on top of it.

I enjoyed this so much. I've been listening/watching while finishing a custom sugar cookie order on a dreary, yet cozy fall day in the Tennessee valley. So calming and at the same time inspiring and energizing. I've been ready to redo our master bed though we are in our temporary barndominium while waiting to build our home. I had been thinking I needed to wait for the new space, but now I'm thinking I would like to cozy it up a bit now. I've had the same bedding for YEARS and love it actually. It is made in the USA textiles from Heirloom Weavers and is EXCELLENT quality. I've changed the accessories a time or two but I'm thinking softer, cozier textures are in order. Thank you for sharing your home .

I fixed my California porch up for fall and I love it. I loved lighting candles and turning on lights in the evening also. I brought in some dried and silk flowers and some orange fall pillows in different shades and textures to my living-room. I love the fall colors and the winding down and relaxing of the season. 🍂🍁🍃

Battery bulbs, I've never seen those before, what a great idea. I'm going to have wall lights all over the house now, where I wouldn't have been able too. Your home is looking really great. I'm trying to be a bit more adventurous with colour and you've given me lots of ideas, thank you Lisa.
