  • Let's talk about the downfall of influencer brand Item Beauty. Item Beauty was co-founded by Addison Rae and after only a few years they've completely disappeared. Unlike many influencer owned brands, people actually seemed to love Item Beauty and want it to come back.

People get tired after a while and move on to someone new. Which makes it so peoples careers are much shorter and it’s really hard for a celebrity to stay relevant unless they are constantly running pr stunts and it must be so fucking exhausting to have to constantly fake relationships, drama with other celebs, fake emotional issues, etc all to be on the headlines and give something for people to talk about. @@niraxlevi9930 Enhancing your looks is NOT empowering, women do NOT gain any real, actual power from applying makeup. I wear HEAVY makeup everyday... like, drag queen makeup. I'm not judging, or implying that makeup is evil (it's not). I love makeup, but I acknowledge that I live in a culture that promotes makeup as a tool to conform, to 'fix' healthy normal parts of our faces that are labelled as 'flaws', and to prey upon us for money... I wear makeup to make myself look better, because women and femme-presenting people are viewed as subhuman when we refuse to wear makeup. Women who don't wear makeup are less likely to be employed in job interviews, paid a lower salary, judged and mocked, etc... we are not given a free 'choice' to wear makeup, we are forced to in order to gain respect. That's NOT REAL POWER, that's the opposite... a pretty cage.

Finally someone who understands what I am saying. No one knows how to use proper words these days, they just throw words all over and forget the meaning. For example... Shaking you ass or going out butt naked is not female empowering, you are just sexualizing yourself and for the viewer, basically a tool. Wearing makeup is not empowering, and it has never been one... It is just a daily thing any women can do. It is our nature that we want to look good, gorgeous and feminine and who ever doesn't apply makeup that's fine. I don't usually apply makeup unless it is an important event. But why are these people using "Empowering" "Girlboss" for the wrong purposes and hyping them over normal things? Like calm down.

I used to work for a manufacturing company for skincare and spa products. And it was a culture shock for me 😆🙈 to find out they sell the products with their own brand name AND also sell similar products under a "celeb" brand name. Usually, the difference in formulation is minor or has to do with the scent. Basically I can buy it cheaper with the company's own brand, just that it won't bear the name of the celeb and will come in different packaging. 👌🏻

It’s easy. On the past celebs were like these unattainable, beautiful, mysterious people that you only saw in movies and never quite knew much about them. Now we know too much. You know all of their political views and peoples expectations of their behavior has become harder to keep up with. They no longer seen so perfect and it makes people look interest. Is not that celebrity culture will ever disappear because people just love adoring people who they consider “the ideal” but fame will become much much shorter for celebrities because as soon as people find out bad things about them they are pretty much done

I would argue that Hollywood celebrities like Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet etc… understand this, or at least their marketing team does and that’s why they remain successful. The problem with influencers is exactly what you’re stating, people know and follow too much and the mystique or fascination fades away, because essentially they’re not doing anything interesting or intriguing. These influencers don’t understand that they become products in the long run, and they essentially have to remain desirable and keep running that illusion to stay relevant. It’s either this or you’re out. Hollywood as a media caterer understands this as well, and that’s why their industry stays strong to this day.

To me nowadays is that influencers (whether IG, SnapChat, TikTok, etc.) will only do a beauty or any type of product line for the check that comes along with it, but hey get your bag and coin. I have seen rise and falls of influencers and even celebrities that decided to slap their names on products for a check. Personally, the only brand that I have tried from a celeb or an influencer is Haus Labs (lady Gaga’s brand) and I loved her brand’s products. Ever since “Lash Gate” I have been looking closely on everything that an influencer puts on their social media platforms, especially TikTok. I rather have HONESTY over FAKING when it comes to products, only you can decide if the product is good or not.

I'm from Brazil, and here a lot of products from influencers are consumed, but usually from people who already had their content based on makeup, when the person is very famous, even people from other countries have their products well recognized here, like the Selena Gomes line (Rare beauty), the Rihanna line (Fenty beauty), even Kylie Jenner's line became famous here with her lipsticks, but nowadays she's much less talked about, the general feeling of Brazilian consumers is that her line is overrated and overpriced, not worth what it is, so, I had already heard about this Adson Rae and that she was very famous on american tik tok, but I had never heard that she had a makeup line, only Brazilian youtubers in the makeup business love testing imported products, and none that I follow has tested her line. I think tiktok influencers are famous only in their bubble, they don't reach so many people, here in my country a very famous woman on Instagram (she has about 43 million followers) it also failed in its line, because it simply doesn't understand anything about makeup, in my country a makeup brand can only become known through reviews on youtube.

Other than the massive increase in cost of living. I think customers have a better sense of who is truly passionate about their brand vs a quick cash grab. Plus most makeup users already have more shades/products then they already need. It will take a truly special, unique, (and affordable!) product to get people on board right now.

the only time THE ONLY TIME I ever bought make up that an influencer promoted was the collab with Lilly Singh and Smashbox. Why? I actively used the brand, mostly for stage makeup but it was also one of my FAVORITE brands in general. So when Lilly came out with the PERFECT red liquid lip that I could use for daily and stage use. I had to get it. I also got the eyeliner and mascara too. I loved the makeup so much. It was so good. Instantly became stuff I used daily (wi the exception of the lip. I don't wear lip stick often unless I am going for a certain look.) But the huge downside is the liquid lip DRIED OUT WITHIN A YEAR and the eyeliner lid REFUSED to stay closed and would pop off constantly. So I feel like I wasted so much money on makeup I thought I could trust in and because of that, I am too scared to buy any makeup made by or promoted by an influencer now a days.
Not to mention since they are trying to go vegen, I can't use a lot of the makeup anyway due to allergies with metals and specific dyes. Such a shame. There was some that I actually wanted to buy.

I know when lady Gaga released her makeup line I was so underwhelmed. And I had been such a crazy fan since I first heard her on the radio in 2008. I know she’s not a “influencer” but in general celebrity and influencer makeup brands just feel like a cash grab now. I mean heck I was even did a meet and greet w/ Kat von d at Sephora in my state when she launched her brand. That to me was when Sephora and high end makeup really clocked my radar.
I feel like at least Addison launched at peak of her fame, wish Gaga would have done the same because maybe i would have cared. but still the colors are so boring it wasn’t what I was expecting from her tbh when prior her whole look was about being over the top.
