1958 I was a freshman in high school we loved Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, they were the best. We used to go to the record shop every Friday to but a "45" record. I still have a collection of them.
Rockin' Gene and the Blue Caps!! Love it!! Doing Jerry Lee's take on "You Win Again" and "Your Precious Love" pleasant surprises!! Cat could rock but also had soul!!
Love Gene Vincent!! When I was a kid I had an album of his greatest hits. On the back cover there was a small black and white photo of him with John Lennon and Paul McCartney. I think the shot is fr m about '61-62. John and Paul were still in their black leather greaser stage. I always thought of this shot as kind of a passing of the torch. Thanks to Gene and the Blue Vaps and the Fab Four for all the great music!!!!
I always thought Gene had the definitive fifties voice. It really shows up on "Unchained Melody", one of my lifelong favourites. I wish he'd had more good material. I went to see him at the Marquee in Soho in 1971,and found a small notice on the door saying he was ill and the show was cancelled. So I went 200 miles back home, Gene died without ever doing another show.
Rare rock, I can't answer you directly because my answering facility's playing up. But if you know Gene was an alcoholic, no doubt you know about the persistent pain from his damaged leg, which led to his heavy drinking.
@@stewartfenton7660 Hi Stewart, got your point. Yeah, unfortunately Gene chose this path, until he couldn't numb himself no more and the body couldn't take it anymore in general. I do not judge that and my comment before was not meant in a judgemental way. It is just what ruled his "later" life (depending on how appropriate it seems to use that term in the case of a person that only got to live up to his mid-30s).
De adolescente fui admirador de Vincent....y me empezó a gustar el Rock...tengo 71 años y seguiré escuchándolo como antes woooo bella música....Saludos de Perú.
Gene must have been incredibly shy. He looks up at the ceiling the entire performance and can't get off the stage quickly enough once it's over (20:05).
Yes, he suffered from stage fright so he looked at the ceiling. As for the exiting the stage quickly, I've seen some back stage footage of him in some performances. That was mainly so he could sit down and get off of his leg for a few minutes. His left leg was completely shattered in a motorcycle accident not long after he returned form serving in Korea. The doctors wanted to amputate it but he refused, so he had it in a brace and suffered a lot of pain due to the injury for the rest of his life. I think that was part of the reason for the drinking problem he had as well. (which eventually cause him to develop the stomach ulcer that killed him). While many people took drugs in the sixties for pain, many people used alcohol to help deaden chronic pain in earlier years. Anyway, if you see some better quality film of performances (like one particular in France that was filmed in 1965 I think it was), you can clearly see part of the leg brace jutting out the bottom of his pant leg. That's also why you see him taking that wide stance on stage where he juts his left leg back at an angle so as to not have his full weight coming down directly on top of it.
My uncle, Grady Owen, is playing bass. Amazing seeing this stuff. Thanks!
Love his hair. Reminds me of Bryan Gregory from the Cramps.
@@coldstar5352 it was a job to keep it in place with that stuff we used to get. I worked outside and it was murder!
That's something to be proud of, Ken.

The other rockers were all great but Eddie and

And Link Wray is on the list.

THANKS FOR UPLOADING THESE PERFORMANCES OF THE GREAT GENE VINCENT.
My pleasure, thank you for watching I'm happy you enjoyed! 🙂
The fact this took place in Compton will never not be hilarious.
It looks like the old THP building is now a pharmacy.
Population replacement

“This boy knows what he’s doing” love seeing the oldies passing the mantle.
Its amazing knowing in 1958 Compton was an all white neighborhood,,,,
Shannon check after 17 minutes=for your precious love!!
Gene's bandmates seem to have a good time.
Esse cara muito talentoso
Compton !!! My how Compton has changed huh??? how sad,
👍👧👍
is Jay Stewart (the MC), the same Jay Stewart from the Let's Make A Deal tv show? Sounds like it
Joe Strummer was definitely directly influenced by this fella.
I think Wee Willie Harris must have based his style on Gene Vincent - the two have similar mannerisms.
Jeff Beck was inspired by this band!!!

very primitive looking film & and sound. The guy was a cripple -survived until age 36 with a damaged leg following a bike crash

🤬¡Vergonzoso, cortan la música con avisos!🤬🤬🤬
Sí!
Is that Jerry Lee Lewis on piano?
No, I'm not sure who that is.
The young guy on piano is Clifton Simmons, he died in 1975.
