There are 12 days of Christmas, none of them are in November. 😂
When I was a child my parents would put the Christmas decorations up 12 days before Christmas and pack them away again on the twelth night afterwards. I've more or less stuck with that family tradition because I find the festive season gets a bit stale if it starts too early.

My daughter's birthday is 2nd December, so nothing Christmas related until after then. I put my tree and decorations up on 3rd this year , bit earlier than usual as we have my daughter's gf living with us and she loves Christmas as much as I do (a lot!). Usually though I put it up the 2nd weekend of December.
Harrods is very expensive, but it's a beautiful store and well worth the experience of visiting it.

Yonks ago, when I was a schoolboy in London, a visit to Harrods (in my case generally with my godfather) was a peaceful, yet wonderous experience. The pet shop, the grand staircases, the huge piano dept, and an enforced dress code for customers to enter. It simply wasn't like any other department store. Today, while still offering quality goods at extravagant prices, it's more like an overcrowded tourist trap.

I used to work in Harrods - it is huge! And takes ages to find your way around. I worked in the Harrods warehouse that is/was across the road that is now been turned into apartments and an expensive hotel I believe. I worked there in the early 1980s. The warehouse was linked to the main store via huge tunnels and things would be brought through the tunnels to the store. I would mostly pop up in the food hall and then make my way to the department I was delivering merchandise to. I loved working there. For the super wealthy who live in the very expensive parts of London it is their "corner shop" and they think nothing of spending money like there is no tomorrow, with no thought at all. It has changed of course since my day working there, and then ordinary Londoners would shop there. It all changed with Dodi. I wouldn't even step through the door now. If you are a tourist you should visit the place of course. Just for the experience. I prefer other shops in London.

I, who live in Sweden, set up the Christmas items that are connected to Advent before the first Advent. So the first Sunday in December. Then stars and Advent candlesticks are put up. After that, all the other Christmas decorations come up little by little. Last comes the Christmas tree and it is dressed on the 23rd. But these traditions are probably a little different depending on home in Sweden.

In 1972 my ex husband who was then my boyfriend lived in Shoreditch which then was a bit of a dive. It’s now a very trendy area to live. Anyway he took me to Harrods. I came from a small village in Surrey. However at this time I was doing my registered nurse training. So London was a shock with so much traffic and so many people. There was a dress code and was supprised that how packed it was. I was in awe at everything I saw. We saw the pet store part that sold things like lions monkeys and even a crocodile!!! Something that I am pleased has stopped but still wealthy people like to buy them. To me wild animals should be left in the wild. I know the story of Christian the lion cub that two young men bought. Anyway I am diversifying we went down to the food Hall and we saw this enormous crab for sale (I was already dead and dressed ready for eating. It cost £20 which my boyfriend paid for. I was upset he spent that much because as a trainee nurse my salary was £22 FOR THE MONTH! And my boyfriend was still at university. We took our crab back to his parents who were notified how much it was. Of course my boyfriend being an only child was used to be spoilt so his parents gave him the £20 he spent on the crab 🦀 . We all ate it for tea and it was really tasty. That was my first and last time I went to Harrods. I prefer John Lewis for everyday stuff from clothes to white goods it’s more affordable. Anyway ladies have a great day.

Decorate the tree? In Norway the tradition is to decorate the tree on the 23rd, “Little Christmas Eve,” but most families decorate earlier now. We have a live tree and usually set it up no earlier than the 20th, and it stays up until at least January 6th, the 13th day of Christmas. Needless to say, the tree is often needle-less by then.

I have an illuminated nativity scene and an advent tree , to mark off the dates leading to CHRISTmas. I will be seeing siblings n the parental (( mum)) on the day itself. but it will be a short visit as I will be working Boxing day

Harrods isn't what it used to be, back in my day. It's expensive tat, that is only expensive because of the name.
Just ordinary Garden Centres have better selections these days. And because you're there, to pick up a Christmas tree. It's a perfect place, to do ALL your Christmas shopping all at once.

Christmas puddings can be flavoured with alcohol based drinks and 'flamed' with brandy which burns off the alcohol (children eat pudding too). We do have alcohol free puddings. I noticed you didn't pull the cracker correctly: the length of your 1st finger and your thumb should be in the join between the ends and main body. Gripping this area tightly will ensure that strip of card is pulled with the rest of the cracker to produce the 'crack' sound. Yours was still whole after you pulled it: remove it from the cracker and pull each end....

Despite John Lewis being famous for kick starting the British Christmas Ads tradition the first one I remember was the Coca Cola lorry adverts this lady mentions when she's looking at the decoration of the Coca Cola lorry which began here when my eldest daughter was small. Even now my younger sister always declares Christmas is officially on the way when that comes on! 😁
So I think it's fair to say that although we love watching our cousin's from over the pond discovering their British heritage this is one thing the great many of us Brits were very happy to inherit from the USA so much so that I've read when they dropped it one year we demanded it's return the next! 😁🇺🇲🇬🇧🎄🎅

I used to work opposite Harrods. It looked a lot different on the inside and outside then. It has always been SO expensive and was, and is, too far above my touch to actually shop there BUT on rainy days at lunchtime it was a wonderland to wander AND it was not unusual to see Hollywood Mega stars roaming the place. In truth even if I won the Lottery I don't think I could bring myself to pay these prices!

Your question regarding Xmas decorations....most of the stuff is put up the first weekend of December by my family. The tree, however, is brought in and decorated on Dec 21st - generally a Noble Fir. Everything comes down on 12th Night, Epiphany. Though most of any chocolate tree decorations seem to have mysteriously vanished long before then. Oh the joy of having 15 grandsons!! 🙄

One of our xmas traditions is to watch Raymond Briggs - The Snowman, a lovely little animated movie. I also really like the Snowman Irn Bru adverts which make much more sense if you've seen the movie. It's only about half an hour long so you may even be able to react to it if you wanted. There are a couple of sequels but, whatever you do, don't watch his When The Wind Blows, that would ruin xmas...I mean it's great, but not for xmas.

I just bought half a dozen handcrafted baubles for my tree from a local small pop-up craft and home decor shop. Impulse buy, but they were so tasteful and nicely made - £6 each. And it supports the ladies who run this shop, which for me is also important in these challenging financial times esp. for small independent businesses - win-win all round 😊

Harrods is a place you visit for the first time with no money or credit cards, just a note pad and mobile phone. To take pictures. After your first visit, analyze what you have seen noted, then make up your shopping list. Then stick to the shopping list. And if you noted prices, and found other suppliers who can sell the same at better pricing, haggle. Otherwise be prepared to part with lots of cash.
