Hey Natasha and Debbie! I’m the widow of a true London geezer, he was a chief fire officer in London and a driving instructor of fire engines in the city. I can hear him shouting down at you two from his birdseye view in Heaven above……”Girls!!! Never ever ever hire a car in London 🙏 the tube is by far the cheapest way around. You can get a day long pass for a few pound. You can go off and on the tube all of London and suburbs as many times as you like. A couple more tips…
Go on the London eye even if overcast. Hamlets on Regent street, biggest toy shop in the world on 7 floors. Stay in a bed and breakfast guest house rather than a big hotel, brilliant service 👍I have tons of tips if you need, just shout up… let’s now get on to Gods land!!! Now you can hire a car! Take the M4 motorway for roughly 200 miles South to Wales, where I was born, bred and have always lived (yes hubby relocated from London to Wales and never went back) in South Wales, you will find little old me living in Swansea by the sea. Google the beautiful Gower coast. Fabulous. Alternative to London, we also have our capital city of Cardiff which is also amazing at Xmas! Girls, if you ever come to the UK please feel free to stay with me here in my little Welsh bungalow. Happy holidays guys xxx

Harry potter, it was there a few weeks back for the death eaters special events.

Those big hand picked Christmas trees you see in places like covent garden and Trafalgar Square are gifts from Norway. Every year the Norwegians hand pick and send us Christmas trees that are a certain amount of years old (I forgot how old they have to be) and they even pay to ship them over by sea. They give them to us for helping them in World War 2. They give them to several of our cities.

    • @sjbict
      @sjbict 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

Isn't it only one tree sent from Norway and it goes up in Trafalgar Square.

    • @bitsbobs8158
      @bitsbobs8158 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

@@sjbict Its not. Scotland, Newcastle etc get one too. Here: For more than 70 years, Newcastle has received a gift of a Christmas tree from the people of Bergen, in Norway, to symbolise the city’s gratitude for Tyneside's support and friendship during the Second World War. A SIXTY foot Sitka spruce will be erected on The Mound in Edinburgh on Saturday to celebrate the city’s links with Hordaland in Norway.
Hordaland has given a tree to Scotland’s capital city each Christmas since 1949 to remember the help given to Norwegians by Scots during the Second World War.

Hi, I’m a Londoner and I’m sorry to say Norway actually in fact only Oslo gives 1 Christmas tree and it’s the giant one in Trafalgar Square. It’s their way of thanking the U.K. for assistance during WW2. They do not provide for Covent Garden as Covent Garden always buys a British tree every year and it’s paid by Covent Garden business who pay for it.
I totally agree with you I love Christmas in London and this year more so because it’s the first Christmas we’re able to be free since pre Covid. Merry Christmas to you 🎅

Ladies, please watch Christmas in London 2022, you’ll find huge amounts of info of all the festive lights, stores especially Harrods in Knightsbridge which is one of the largest department stores in the world. It’s been changed into a huge gingerbread house. There are many beautiful ice skating rings for the festive season. Central London changes into a massive winter wonderland of festive cheer and we all need that right now as this is the first Christmas the world has been free from Covid restrictions.
Merry Christmas lovely’s and a happy new year to you both 🎅🎄🎁☃️🥂

Nothing gets me in the Christmas spirit like sitting at the front on the top deck of the bus, glancing up from my phone, and seeing the Regent St angels swoop over my head. It’s SO beautiful, and transforms a regular boring commute into something truly special. It leaves me breathless every single time. I’ve lived in London for almost a decade, and moments like those remind me of how lucky I am, and how much I love the city.

So glad you liked the idea of Christmas in London. The vlog you watched had a lot of 'younger people attractions' which you pay to go in. For free you can stroll around Covent Garden, Oxford Street etc (in the evening for best effect) and soak up the festive spirit. Definitely don't bother to hire a car for London because public transport - and your feet - get you anywhere.

This is one of the lovely things about TH-cam that it allows strangers a world apart to connect, share and build relationships. I have seen this on other channels which is so encouraging in an otherwise depressing world.
To amuse you ladies - at the beginning of the video watched - there is a shot of the ruins of mediaeval building: that was part of the palace of the Bishop of Winchester who owned the land there (on the south side of the Thames) is called Clink Street because of the prison of that name that was once there - it was also called Gropecunt Lane (seriously) as there was much prostitution there.

Regarding museums, most museums in London are FREE (courtesy of us, the British taxpayer...you're welcome!) although most request a donation (and in tru British fashion, this isn't "in your face"), and are well worth going to. This includes the British Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Victoria and Albert museum, the National Gallery, the Tate, the Tate Modern, the Tate Britain, the Museum of London, the Imperial War Museum, the National Maritime Museum, Guildhall, the Wellcome collection, the British Library, the Army museum.....Many of these are world class.
Free museums funded by the government can be found all over the country, including the National Railway museum in York, and even "Big Pit", an old coal mine in Wales....

And I heard you say you don’t know what Band Aid is, this requires a reaction video!
In ‘84 there was an awful famine in Ethiopia. It was reported on the news here and the lead singer of the Boomtown Rats saw this and was appalled and rang a friend Midge Ure (from the band Ultravox) and they wrote a song called Do They Know It’s Christmas. They then recorded this song with a galaxy of stars, George Michael, Phil Collins, Bono, Sting, Duran Duran, Boy George and loads more. It was a huge hit and then inspired the Live Aid concert that happened in the summer of 85 and the USA’s charity record We Are The World.

Hey girls, nobody does Christmas like London over here, I walked through the whole of central London at Christmas time for my graduation in Mayfair, from Marylebone station to Covent Garden , the Christmas tree is frickin huge, bigger than Trafalgar Square tree that comes from Norway every year. The angels are phenomenal, if you like shoes or pumps haha St Christopher’s street with the big baubles is the place to go, as a jewellery designer, Mayfair is the place to go, Bulgari, Cartier, aspres, Gucci, Louis verton. It’s all here girls, you know you wanna jump on the next bird and check it out.
Christmas has never been a particularly great time for me either, for personal reasons, but the lights alone bring a little smile.
My heart and love go out to you both this Christmas.

Great video! Loved your reactions. I live in London not far from Kew Gardens and the Christmas at Kew is just amazing and magical!
Tuesday going to Covent Garden and some Christmas markets which are dotted around so many places. Then I’m seeing Aled Jones and Russell Watson Christmas show and instead of getting the tube home we’re going by bus to see more lights on the way.
Christmas in London cannot be beat! 🎄😍

So yeah, in the UK generally government owned museums are free to enter, but they do request donations. This was introduced just over 20 years ago to make sure that museums were cheap educational entertainment available to everyone regardless of income or background.

London is spectacular at Christmas time. Here´s one Londoner that´s travelling home for the festivities (I work overseas). Winter Wonderland is amazing, if a little expensive, Kew Gardens is staggeringly beautiful and the lights in London´s shopping area are just mind blowing. I really hope you get to go there to experience all of it! And Linda Podd, my dad was also a fire chief in London!

Adverts for Christmas at restaurants started a month or so ago, that's fine.
But a few years ago, I opened the door to some carol singers (really bad ones 😬😬😬😬) and said...
    "Guys, it's November 15th"
    🤣

Leadenhall Market is in "The City" so busy busy with trader, bankers etc Monday to Friday and like a ghost town Sat-Sun which means being able to a) get a table for lunch and b) cheaper drink/meal deals. There is a great street food market around the corner (again only Mon-Fri). The Lloyds building is near by but the star is the architecture of the market itself.
You're going to need atleast 4 months when you eventually come. 😆

Hi girls. Great video. Yes Christmas markets have become common in the UK over the
last few decades. They seem to have in the modern form come from Germany and still have
a very continental style. One of the biggest & best occurs in York, but many other places have
their own, as big or small as local conditions allow. Most places large & small have lights &
Christmas trees etc. The London displays vary each year, so what is seen in this video may be
quite different in another year. Happy Holidays, or rather as we prefer Merry Christmas!

Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park is amazing, me and my friends love it! The ice bar, karaoke rooms, rides, food, atmosphere - it’s all incredible. It’s expensive but it’s such a fun day out. Christmas in London still feels special, even after all these years. South bank Christmas market is a good stop too.
Edit: I can’t believe you don’t know what Band Aid is! You should definitely listen to the Christmas song and look at our big the Christmas number 1 is. Christmas ads are also a really big deal.

11:36 I used to live on Oxford Street as a student. Not that I was rich or anything, but my College owned a residential building with rooms directly overlooking Selfridges and Marks & Spencer, and I was lucky to rent one of them. I've got fond memories of watching the Oxford Street lights being switched on from the unique vantage-point of my "living room" window :)
