It’s gotta be hard having to be teased for mistakes you made over 20 years ago . Particularly when you have cleaned up and it’s the highest moment of your career . Downey handled himself well.
Being able to laugh at past mistakes is a key to success.
Acknowledging your past mistakes is huge but laughing at them is truly honest and humble.
Jimmie kibble is not any kind of treasure.

RDJ is all class. He should have won an Oscar thirty years ago for “Chaplin”. He’s something special, as a lot of us have known for quite some time.

I can see that, but staged... however I don't think the Academy itself would allow it since they were so inept when it happened for real. But it would also be a bit disrespectful to Chris Rock, so if all three (Kimmel, RDJ, Rock) were on board and kept the academy out the loop, I would have laughed. Let's be honest, the reason it was the highest rating this year was because people wanted to see what'd happen with the current host.

That’s not his first Oscar, but his second. His first was for the leading role in Chaplin released in 1992.
One thing I love about Jimmy Kimmel is his love for Huey Lewis. One Thing I hate about Jimmy Kimmel is his Hosting Skills. He hosted the Chris Cornell Tribute Concert and was making weird Heroin Jokes about SPOONMAN. Spoonman is about a Musician in Seattle. Jimmel Kimmel tries to hard at Bad Jokes.

He's not affected by it probably because he is a man of substance and generosity. He's seen both sides and knows the true nature of Hollywood and people like Kimmel and Colbert who are willing to turn on anyone to keep themselves in front of the camera.

I don't believe that RDJ was ok with the joke for a second. He obviously wanted to move on from the joke and yet now he says he was completely ok with it? There's an interview where he was asked questions about his drug past and RDJ got very offended and walked out of the interview. But yet he's ok with being the target of Jimmy Kimmel's joke about his drug past that is being broadcast worldwide? I think it's because Jimmy Kimmel is popular amongst his Hollywood peers and the other journalist was working for a small network is the reason why he's holding his tongue about this incident.
It looked like he was trying to be polite, but his gesture with his fingers meant ‘keep it moving,’ to move on from the joke instead of going on about it. I’ve seen him react to his past being bought up and he never seems happy about it.
@@sloth8632 Perhaps he's taking a different approach to stories about his past. Being that if he doesn't make a big deal about it then there's no story and the media will get bored and move on. Maybe this is the fastest way he can make people move on from it.
@@OneDayFromNJ I disagree with your assessment. I believe the RDJ interview we're referring to was conducted unprofessionally by the interviewer. While it looked like the interviewer was aiming to achieve a viral moment by asking specific questions about his drug past, I don't think there was any evidence of him being "sinister". RDJ had every opportunity to politely refuse to address the question, but he got visibly angry and upset and decided to walk out of the interview. Also very unprofessional.
Whereas Jimmy Kimmel was using RDJ's drug past as a punchline for a joke at RDJ's expense. We have an unprofessional interviewer vs. someone exploiting another for a joke. I think it's obvious which is worse. Jokes at an individual's expense can be fine, so as long as the comedian believes the topic is not offensive to the individual, or whether its criticism that is warranted. e.g. making fun of an individual that harmed others.

Though he didn’t need to continue because the reference to his drug past had already been made and we wasn’t looking for a response like the interviewer was. The situations are different because one was a monologue and the other an interview.

I like your heater analogy, because you can also turn the heater down, turn it off, move back a little, rather than walking away. There are many options on how to handle a situation.
I have no issues with how RDJ handled the Jimmy Kimmel joke, my issue is with Jimmy Kimmel who thinks he can be rude whenever he wants.
