I’m the same way. And be careful about telling friends or family you want certain things. Sometimes they will think they can replicate a cheaper less useful version as a gift. I’ve had to return so many gifts and I hate being “rude”.

I love and agree with the last tip! I am adding an old figurine of Apsara (ancient Cambodian dancer) to my home since I have one anyway but just putting one on the shelf and slowly work my way around it to make it modern, earthy and still a part of my culture history. My husband would Like me to get what we need in one or 2 furniture store. I need to look at many furniture stores to get the Best price and better made furniture. I agree with everything you said! My top two are 1- Get to know yourself and what you want. I’m always torn between sort of an earthy/boho look and modern glam. But I realized I want my home to feel like I’m on vacation because I don’t get to travel a lot. So I’m going more modern glam with some tiny bits of earthy thrown in there. 2- Scale. I see so many homes with tiny items of decor scattered everywhere and it just looks cluttered. I love large pieces of furniture and decor. I think it makes a home look more luxurious. I agree you should take your time. I have a room filled with items I’m going to sell because I got in a rush to finish things instead of waiting for the right piece once I know what I want. So I’m going to force myself to slow down. Such an informative video, thank you 🙏🏻

Yes Great Tips... I love to build on a neutral palette. If you do want to add color on pillow covers or throw blankets...Or even in a piece of art then you could possibly not break the bank in that way..and maybe change the theme seasonally. I love neutrals myself..Easy on the eyes, relaxing, and high end. I definitely have been looking for a large vintage pot (budget friendly) to house a large plant. I love baskets as well.💛💛

These are very helpful and a valuable checklist. Finding your style is the best tip and personally, after a few mis-steps with fashion trends, I now try to buy “forever pieces”
Shoppable pillows are the best. Look for feather filled pillows. I did however buy a Pier One pillow because of the print color and embroidery even though it was not feather filled. I found out that I could put a different insert in. I have lots of different pillows that I change up seasonally. There are so many that I have to stack them on the floor but it still looks nice. Right now I'm waiting waiting to switch my pillows to fall/winter because I'm still holding on to Summer which is my favorite season and it's always so short anyways. Again the key tip is to buy what you love!

Keep your eye on your favorite bedding and wait for it to go on sale. If it is something online you could put it in your shopping cart and keep going back to check to see if it went on sale.

Yes, we spent a lot on our mattress, and less on the bed and bedding. However, we did not skimp on the bedding. It’s what you sleep on and our dog sleeps on it too! We got a white duvet cover so we can bleach it. Highly recommend white and don’t recommend Ikea unless you can size up.
Absolutely agree that taking time i vital in home decor!!! Its something i have learned recently sonwith this cando we live in i am taking slow slow slow and buying what i know we will take to a new home once its time

Tip: For cost effective pillow inserts, get them at a thrift store. I soak them in a tub with some hot water and a little bleach. I do t worry about staining because they won’t be seen. I then wash them in the washer on hot, dry and spray with Lysol. No excuses now. ☺️

You can do that with your personality. Simplicity in the home looks expensive
You can always have printed pillow covers, window treatments, and rug runners. You just don't want prints on big pieces.

Tip: For cost effective pillow inserts, get them at a thrift store. I soak them in a tub with some hot water and a little bleach. I do t worry about staining because they won’t be seen. I then wash them in the washer on hot, dry and spray with Lysol. No excuses now. ☺️

I was getting caught up in trying to be on trend buying things just because they were in style and getting them home and then feeling like they just weren’t me and then ending up with stuff that I spent good money on and then giving it away or throwing it out!
