Mowing Cover Crops and Planting 5 New Beds!

- Looks like @jacquesinthegarden and I can't get enough of power tools in the garden, so we hit the over crop and compost heap with a mowing session to break it down even further in advance of buiding out our compost bin! We also planted out 5 new beds in the back garden with some classic summer crops.

Asian eggplants are the superior eggplant tbh. So sweet. You have to either let them braise in their own juices or pre-fry them to let it dehyrate a bit because they're like 80% water due to their spongy structure.

We don't get a lot of garden straw in North Cali. My wif nd I use rice hulls. Wokes great as a grund cover, and tilled in, makes the veggies easy to pull.

I'm loving these videos SO much- the intro was absolutely class haha! Love you guys sharing about just getting things in the ground imperfectly- makes sense.
As for the new patch, personally I would love a 3 sisters type bed (beans, corn, squash/melon) with an optional 4th with sunflowers. Think it would be a great full video for the main channel too focussing on indigenous knowledge/practices.

I’ve always found the timing a little tricky when transplanting sunflowers. And they never seem to be as vigorous as direct sown. That is of course if the birds don’t find the seeds :)

I'm experimenting with radishes as a cover crop, but just mowing them down after they get a set of true leaves. They're supposed to have calcium in the greens comparable to milk, so they should be a great chicken snack, and then I still add a lot of green manure by leaving the roots to decompose. Should be mowing them this week.
Jacques, teach Kevin how to make Baba Ganoush, and he will want to grow eggplant! You guys are right, just plant it!

Those Japanese Eggplant's are amazing plants to grow. Have 3 already and few more flowers in the ones in the shade. Got another one to put in more sunlight and is been attacked, but it is so hardy that it doesn't care and growing nicely.
