Man, I really enjoy your analysis. Just sitting and watching someone watching a video is boring imo. So I really appreciate you pausing, going back and giving your insight on a compositional or technical level. And the fact that it takes time is totally normal. You ain't a full-timer, you have work to do, so I think it is definitely normal for your uploads being delayed because of more important stuff. Keep up the good work :)
Also. I did not see people giving you the names of the statued Champions and while it is hard to make them out I can name 2. Taliayah, The Stoneweaver, is the girl in front and Gnar, The Missing Link, is the prehistoric-looking beast more in the background. Based on other comments this being the SSG Team Skins, the ones who are hard to make out are Xayah, The Rebel, and Rakan, The Charmer, as well as Ezrael, The Prodigal Explorer. The only one missing from the line-up as a statue is Jarvan IV, who is represented by the player. This location symbolizes a fight with a so-called Elder-Drake, which is a monster, players are able to slay late in the game to gain a huge advantage for their entire team

I'm quite impressed that you understood so much without knowing much about league or it's competitive scene. You are right about Fakers nichname, he is widely considered the best league player of all time being one of the two players achieveing 3 world cup wins. Faker appeared on the big stage in season 3 (every season is basically a whole year and we are in season 10 now) and he has been absurdly good all through. While it is very unlikely for teams to keep the same roster for a long period of time Faker has been on SKT T1 since his debut on the big stage and he still is on the Team. SKT T1 is the only team that was able to win the worlds 3 times and the only team to win 2 consecutive world cups. Even if they don't win they usally make to the finals or semi-finals atleast. A few months ago Faker actually got a blank check offer from an amercican team but he declined because he thinks that Korea has better players overall, which is more fun to him and he didn't want to leave Korea as he can identify a lot with the Korean culture. That's also they reason they showed the SKT T1 logo, they are pretty much seen as THE team to beat, the final boss. (Faker also did a roll during his introduction in the world finals 2016, not certain on the year, and ate a raw broccoli on stage after winning the finals^^). I can btw pretty much assure you that someone will leave a way more detailed comment about everything in the video and I recommend you to read the whole blog post that it will be because I think all that stuff is very interesting. ITts nice seeing that you enjoy these as much as we do, I'm looking forward to your next videos :D. Shattered Focus Productions so something that is apparent that I do see you take note of when in the transitions to the next battle, including the Freljord area (frozen mountain). There are champion statues in the background. These statues are of the champions that were designated to get the skin line called “Championship.” These skins were released before each Worlds and the money spent on those skins by the players would go to the prize pool for the Finals. In between the middle and last fight, all the champions fighting the dragon (that specific dragon being called the Elder Dragon) those are the champions that Ambition’s (the main character) team used to win against Faker and SKT.

Uzi, one of the best ADCs to ever touch the game playing his iconic Vayne; Faker, the G.O.A.T., playing Ryze, with whom hes turned many games around; it goes that way, each champion here represents a proplayer pretty much single-handedly winning the game with that champ

Your guesses were really solid based on what you had to go off of! Quick summary:
Rise chronicles the story of one pro player, Ambition, as he recovers from losing the 2016 World championship, and picks himself back up to (successfully) challenge for the 2017 title. The tattered banners and distortion at the beginning (along with a sneaky bit of audio from the shoutcasters announcing his 2016 defeat) all symbolize the devastation at having come so close, only to fall short.
The climb through the elimination bracket is shown as a literal vertical climb up an ever-steeper mountain, and each opponent is a contender he had to overcome: Perkz from Europe's G2, Uzi from China's RNG, and Faker from Korea's SKT T1.
You're exactly right about the weapons representing champions: Ambition uses Kha'Zix's claws against Perkz's Yasuo, Sejuani's icy flail (and boar mount) against Uzi's Vayne, and lastly Jarvan IV's lance against Faker's Ryze.
At the end, the players shown climbing up after Ambition are contenders, looking to dethrone him and his team (Samsung Galaxy) in the 2018 championship, for which this video was promotional.

More or less spot on about Faker, "The Unkillable Demon King". He's the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) of the eSports scene in League, that's why he's the final opponent. I believe the three stars on his jacket signify the number of World Championships they've won, out of the 9 World Championships so far.
Notably, this video followed one person (Ambition on Samsung Galaxy), and his journey through the previous year's (video was made in 2018, as a reflection of 2017) World Championships. His three opponents that he faced off against were Perkz's Yasuo, Uzi's Vayne, and Faker's Ryze - champions that are considered their 'signature' champions. As an additional bit of tension, Samsung Galaxy (and Ambition) were against SKT T1 (and Faker) in the finals of the previous year and lost - so a repeat match of the previous year.

Additional note: Also spot on about the character taking a shot against the second opponent, did signify losing against them - both the first two opponents were in the same group (4 teams per group), RNG (second opponent) won the final group stage game, giving them first seed, while Samsung took second seed (generally means you have easier opponents by taking first seed).

Shattered Focus Productions Partially False. They showed his face at the end because even tho the video was about the events of 2017 worlds, Uzi qualified again for the 2018 worlds, which is where all the other teams climbing up are at. That is symbolized by Uzi opening his eyes, showing that he wasn’t defeated before and will be back in typical anime villain fashion. He opened his eyes for only a split second, which I think you never saw in his video because you kept pausing it right before you got to the last second. Tbf, it’s a really short frame and they don’t usually have that kind of important detail in the last frame of a vid.

To add Extea context to what this is. See this is actually the Greatest Cinderlla story in Pro League of legends due to what went down and why. You have SKT and Faker being the most dominant Team in the history of the game having won 3 Worlds this would have be their 4th and 3rd in a row.
See in 2013. SKT T1 (T2 Judgement Day) at the time came onto the Korean leage scene. In Their debet game they went against Cj Blaze, with Ambition in the middle lane. At the time he was concidered the best mid laner in the world, even more so on his star pick khazix. In Faker's first pro game he killed him under tower by out microing him using his ult animation timing to tower dive him and solo kill him. From there Faker took that lead and snow balled the game to winning it. Shortly after claiming Best midlaner in the world title from Ambition. This video is about Ambition's revenge. It took him 4 Years for him to finially avenge the loss to Faker in his debut game it just so happened in the world finals where he Beat Faker as well as SKT. Prevent their 4th world Championship

  • @Twitch2099
    @Twitch2099 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

So you got most of it, there's just a few things you missed that I haven't seen others point out here in the comments:
    1) The beginning of the video is the "Lobby" of the game. In it we see all of the banners from the various e-sports teams, as well as the weapons from all of the various champions as it's the symbolism of the fact that in the lobby you choose which champion you want to play as. Also, that noise that's all washed out and hard to hear before the music starts is the sound of the sportscaster during the previous worlds where Ambition lost. It (along with the fact that he's shaking and visibly upset) is meant to show the Ambition is still a little rattled from that loss at worlds, but is pushing through it anyway. Also, remember the sound of the crows in the background, they'll be significant later, and aren't just there for the aesthetics.
    2) The huge blast @ 1:13 was the second guy that Ambition ends up fighting (his name is Uzi) using one of Vayne's abilities to beat another e-sports player (possibly Cuvee or Rekkles, but we'll never know since we never see the fight) playing Kennen, and foreshadows that Ambition will fight him next. Remember Uzi though, as he'll also be important later.
    3) There's a dude frozen in the ice @ 1:20 lol
    4) The weapons are in fact symbolism not only of champions that each e-sports players likes to play, but are also the champions that each player used against each other when they faced off at worlds 2016. Additionally, each player Ambition faces is in the same order that he fought them in worlds 2016.
    5) Each of the people you see from 3:00 on are also actual e-sports players as well, not just symbolic placeholders for the sake of the message they were trying to convey.
    6) The trophy at the top of the mountain @ 3:08 is the actual LoL Trophy you get when you win worlds.
    7) Now for the big one: the last 10 seconds of the video.
So what you see is the player Uzi with his eyes closed.
    Listen closely.
    What do you hear?
    Crows.
    Do you know why?
Because after he was defeated, Uzi was brought back to the lobby (just like Ambition did at the beginning of the video). It's symbolism to represent that even if you lose in League, there's always next match / next tournament / next season and that you could come back and "Prove yourself and rise" (above the competition). That no matter what, you're never really down and out for good, and that maybe the next season would be Uzi's. Spoiler: It wasn't, but his team did end up 12 wins to 4 losses in the 2017 season and unfortunately lost the finals in a reverse 2-3 sweep :(

The video was about the Season 7 World Championship for League of Legends. The 'protagonist' is Ambition from the team Samsung Galaxy. His team won that year. The finals of Season 7 was a rematch of the two teams that made it to the finals in Season 6. In Season 6 SKT T1 (the team with Faker) beat Ambition and Samsung Galaxy 3 times in a 5 game series. In Season 7 Samsung Galaxy beat SKT T1 after winning 3 games of a five game series. Both are teams from South Korea.
At the time the video was made, Faker was (and maybe is) the only player to have been in the World Finals 4 times, and one of the only two to have won the championship 3 times (the other retired after Season 6).
The purpose of the video is to set the stage for the Season 8 Worth Championship and build hype for it (SKT did not do well enough in their region to be present, Samsung Galaxy was there but were heavily out classed).
The other players that appear are Perks from the European team G2 Esports, and Uzi from China who was on team Royal Never Giveup.
So it is a story about getting back up after losing (season 6) working though adversity to return to beat the opponent that you lost too before.

A bit late, and idk if someone commented this already, but at 2:43, you can see a giant shuriken made of lightning, followed by a massive arrow.
The shuriken of lightning is from a champ called Kennen, since this vid is in March and if im not wrong you watched Awaken in Feb, Kennen is the ninja rat that darted around and did that massive lightning strike. The arrow refers to the champ Vayne, played by Uzi (from Royal Never Give Up, or RNG), at 3:00.
The shuriken of lightning is thought to have come from Fnatic's ADC, Rekkles, as he was famous for his Kennen bot. Fnatic was knocked out of finals by RNG. This is shown as the arrow from Vayne struck down and dispersed the lightning shuriken from Vayne.
I saw this on Dot Esports, dotesports.com/league-of-legends/news/all-of-the-best-easter-eggs-in-the-rise-music-video-for-worlds .Tbh i like this reference the most because its like a neat little hidden reference ^^.

Holy crap, despite not knowing much about the game or the e-sports scene the dude did really damn well and was pretty close or completely accurate with all his statements. I'm super impressed by this. Might check out more of your videos throughout the day, or at least throughout the week.
To explain the ending of the vdeio though, that's the player Uzi. Uzi is largely considered the second best player in the world and he competed with Ambition (the hero in RISE) in the group stages of the world championships in season 7. Throughout season 8, Uzi had been on a tear and him along with his team was largely considered to be the favorites going into the season 8 world championships. So the scene of Uzi's face at the end is meant to convey that Uzi might've been defeated in S7, but he's been hungrily awaiting his itme and hye's the one to beat this year, or he's the last boss this year. At least that's how I personally understyood it.

  • @619Slipk
    @619Slipk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

There so many details and references to both the game and the competitive scene that to write about all of them would take too much time.
Basically in the beginning there's that distortion effect to symbolize that he (Ambition) just woke up there (after a beating probably). The main dude is a player that has been around the top many times but never won and everyone was starting to say he was washed up. This "story" is about how he and his team won the previous year's world championship defeating SK Telecom T1 in the finals. The close up in the "SKT T1" logo is to show the 3 stars, meaning they were previously 3 times world champions.
When he get's hit during that 2nd fight it's because during the winning campaign of his team they lost 1 game during the group stage
12:10 - Every year the players from the team that wins Worlds can chose 1 champion to receive a skin in the team's theme, in this shot there's all of his team's skins fighting a dragon, which is a neutral creature in the map that grants you buffs when you kill it
The final fight against Faker was longer just to be the climax of the video because in real life they ficked them up 3x0 in the best of 5
The ending shows the guy that hit him with an arrow during the 2nd fight waking up in the same place Ambition was at the start, you can hear the crows in the background hinting at that. They chose to put him in the end because he, much like ambition, has many times been among the top teams, but never won the world championship, and his team was the favorites to win that year. (Spoiler: they didn't)

Concerning the lore, this ascension could be link to the Mont Targon. Targon is the greastest mountain in the League fantasy; many had try to climb, many failed. But succeding to climb to the pike, you meet with the power of the universe. many characters inherit gods like powers, or became the reincarnation of an elemental aspect (War for Pantheon, Dusk and Dawn for Zoe, etc.., even the twins (Morgana and Kayle)'s mother attempted the climb while pregrant, and her daughters became the spirits of Justice (fair for one and vengeance for the other)
To add to the idea that the start of the video is the lobby/respawn point, you can undertand that the player in the volcano shooting arrows, red glasses, has "respawned" or is ready to play again, as there is also a new match, a new fight, a revenge to take.

  • @juano93
    @juano93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Ambition, the protagonist of the MV has a story dissection that he did for this video. He explained that the World's Cup is represented by the mountain everyone is climbing, and those who lose fall down. The beginning of the story starts when he has just fallen from an attempted climb. That's all the distortion and disorientation as well as the reason for Ambition being so out of breath. He gets up, picks his weapons and starts to climb again. The first battle is against a team called G2, which he beat in the group stages. The second battle is against a team called RNG, represented by Uzi, who is one of the best players for his role in the world (Uzi's team basically centers around him). The significance of the two arrows is the two losses he incurs against RNG, and despite never beating them, he gets to move up because his team won second place in group stages. You never see him beat Uzi, because all he does is run past him. The last battle is against Faker in the finals, which he wins and like you said, his win is presented by the statue with the symbol. The significance of the last part with Uzi is that it shows him in his fallen state. This is really subtle because the only way you really tell is by the crow sounds in the background, the same sounds heard at the beginning when Ambition was on the bottom.
The background shots you like so much are from lore most likely. The statues of champions are champions previous world champions have given skins to and have played to win in the past.

Faker rose to prominence by getting a solo kill on Ambition, who was one of the highest ranked mid laners of the time.
Ambition finally achieved revenge by beating him on the world stage.
Faker was as much of an unkillable demon king as everyone said, but for Ambition, the victory was way more personal, making the story much more poetic.

I see many people gave a lot of info about the video and its meaning! Great community you have here.
Let me add a small precision, Ambition's team, SSG, lost 3-2 to SKT T1 (Faker's team) the previous year, 2016 (hence the distortion at the beginning, he is devastated by coming so close to winning the Worlds). The video represents the 2017 Worlds, and the finals that year were once again SSG vs. SKT T1, a rematch of the previous year's.
But this time, SSG would not only win, but clean sweep SKT with a 3-0.

@@ShatteredFocusProductions Yes, that's a crazy story. A bit more in depth if you are really interested. (for your understanding, a "match" usually consists of a series of "games" being played, most often a 3 or 5 game series) I'll try to keep it as short as I can while still being descriptive enough.
SKT T1 is one of those teams that have been highly successful from the very beginning. They were dominating most of the tournaments they played.
SSG however, had a troubled history. At first there were two teams, Samsung Blue and Samsung White. Both pretty successful in all tournaments they played, White even winning the World Championship in 2014.
But in 2015, a new regulation prohibits a single organization owning several teams, so Samsung had to merge their teams and formed Samsung Galaxy (SSG). In the process they released all players from both teams and hired an entirely new roster for SSG. This could have been their downfall.
In early 2015, they competed in Champions 2015 (a national tournament) and finished the Spring split dead last with a record of 2W-12L. They had to play a promotion tournament in order to qualify for the Summer split. They scored a perfect record of 2W-0L, winning both matches 2 games to 0.
In Champions 2015's Summer split, they placed 7th out of 10, with a 6W-12L record, barely qualifying for the regional league, the LCK.
At the KeSPA Cup 2015, they were eliminated in the first round, losing the match 0-2. Following this most of the players left the team. That's when Ambition, amongst others, joined the roster to replace the departing players.
In 2016 LCK Spring split, they almost made it to the playoffs with a 10-8 match record, but lost the tiebreaker. In the Summer split they placed 4th, qualifying for the playoffs, in which they placed 4th out of 5, losing an opportunity to qualify for the Worlds. However that was enough for them to qualify in the regional finals, which they won, qualifying them for the 2016 Worlds.
At the 2016 Worlds, they placed first of their group in group stage with 5-1, and got a clean sweep on quarter and semifinals, winning both 3-0. Now to the finals, a 5 game series against SKT. They lost the first 2 games, forcing them to win the 3 next games back to back in order to win the match. SSG got back up and won the next 2 games, almost performing a reverse sweep, but SKT won the last game, and the match 3-2.
2017 was a more stable and successful year for SSG, placing second (14-4) and third (13-5) of the LCK Spring and Summer splits respectively, and winning the regional finals, qualifying for the 2017 Worlds. They passed the group stage and, again, breezed through quarter and semifinals with 3-0 and 3-1. It was time for the finals.
They were meeting SKT once again. But this year was SSG's time, and they proved it by winning 3-0.
Later in 2017, Samsung announced they would stop sponsoring the team. The team was acquired by KSV, and later renamed Gen.G, to meet limited success still to this day. Ambition went on to retire in 2018.

@@ShatteredFocusProductions Glad to help with my not so useful background info ahah
The other teams that have been merged (including SKT) weren't affected as much by this new regulation.
I think the main reason is that these kept players from both former teams into the newly merged team, while Samsung decided to make a new team from scratch, without any player coming from their former teams. But who knows what would've happened otherwise...
If you haven't watched them yet I'd recommend LoL older cinematics, "A New Dawn" and "A Twist of Fate". But I guess you already have a big to-do list to go through!

So, if you want the brief story:
At the start of the video, you hear the shoutcasting in the background from the end of worlds 2016. The player Ambition was the midlaner of the losing team for that match. He transitioned to the jungle role after that year, and you see him grab the equipment from 3 junglers, Kha'zix (mantis like alien), Sejuani (boar rider with a flail), as well as Jarvan's Lance.
In the plains, he face's G2's perkz (SSG vs G2 was in the 2017 group stage) who was a big yasuo player. During the lightning strike you can see the silhouettes of Khazix and yasuo in the background. Wasn't a matchup that happened, but both are iconic champion for them.
In the cave he face's RNG's Uzi, who's playing as Vayne (crossbow user). You see the boar-rider shadow on the lava-fall. Incidentally, RNG beat SSG 2-0 during the group stages, thus why you don't see ambition actually beat him
Lastly, you have the statues with all the previous world champions, and of course the undecided 2017 champion. And he's up against SKT faker, his direct opponent at the last world championship(faker is a midlaner, the same role ambition was in last year), and his final opponent for 2017. Faker's most notorious champion is Ryze.
Extras: the page at the end reads in Korean "The Unkillable Demon King's fundamental guide to winning Worlds", a faker reference, same thing with the broccoli. The champions you see Ambition climbing over before the final showdown represent one of the comps his team used. And every year riot gives a "championship skin" to a single champ, thing of it as the special skin for worlds. You see each of the previous world's skins as those MASSIVE statues in the background throughout the video. sometimes occluded by clouds etc. And at the end, it was showing Uzi, the Vayne player from the cave, kinda hinting "hey maybe it's RNG's turn to take the crown"
