I bought 4 yoyos & they don't appear to be at all interested in the snails. My tanks are heavily planted so I'm hoping that maybe they are eating in private & getting the eggs & newly hatched babies, leaving the slightly older ones.
I'm from India. I have shrimps in the tank. Is it safe to add these loaches? No need to answer. Got the answer in the comments. Well I have to search for other option!
i like the bladder snails for their ability to clean the tank better than anything else i had. even nerite snails and otocinculus. But they multiply like no tomorrow. 1 becomes 100 in 30 days. i didn't use loaches but i got an assassin snail and they dealt with them very effectively for population control. they don't hunt as much as loaches meaning the bladder snails stuck around to keep cleaning, but they never got out of control. and Assassin snails don't multiply quickly so they never became a problem. they're non hermaphroditic so if you just get 1, it'll never breed and mulitply making them, for me anyway, the perfect bladder snail control.
Thanks, that's gotta be the best way to get rid of bladder snails. They came in on a plant and took over. Do they eat their eggs too ? If not then it'll still be a problem.

Perhaps o should have mentioned that in the video. Cheers 👍🏻
Dear Jamie: I’m trying to come up with a way to eradicate snails, but I realize that the only true solution is to start over. I know that assassin snails (Clea helena) and yoyo loaches (Botia almorhae) eat snails, but I don’t care to have an overpopulation of assassin snails. I have a couple of larger tanks, but I’m waiting for some, long-lived fish to expire, so I can break them down. I don’t want to prolong that with yoyo loaches. I’m doing a series of experiments to rid small thanks of snails: th-cam.com/video/HPXzsOARJLo/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/H1lHDzKBJXQ/w-d-xo.html I look forward to seeing more of your work. Dear Jamie: Well, I have done that with nerite snails. I bought a pair and was disappointed that at least one was a female. She (or they) left eggs all over my aquascape (which don’t hatch, but simply rot in fresh water). I traded them both for one, Amano shrimp. The pet store always comes out ahead, but it’s good of them to deal with me. I’ve also sold them Columbian tetra, but I hate to part with my pets. They get much better care with me than they can hope for, elsewhere. Thank you for your, continued correspondence and help. Sincerely, Brinegar
Had snail problems for years… used every chemical, manual removal, traps. All useless. Then I bought one Pakistani loach - problem solved in a week. Ate every single snail.
I wish i could do this... I already own 2 clown loaches but just my luck i introduced shrimp into my tank just a week ago before i found this video and remembered they did this and the shrimp are for sure too small to leave with the loaches
This is not always the case. The snails can eat algae so even if you are feeding exactly the correct ammount, they can still multiply like crazy, especially in a new tank going through imbalance and algae battles.
And here I am researching how to maintain a pond snail culture to feed my giant gourami fish, they eat them like candy. How one's pest is others hobby. Good luck.

Wel those tanks would be too small for a loach I’m afraid. You can try adding a slice of cucumber every night and removing it in the morning.
@@Mountain_Aquatics thank you
Crayfish absolutely destroy snails. We put one in our extra tank with a bully guppy we had to remove. This one we caught had no big claws for whatever reason. But it has removed all the snails and cleaned the gravel.
Is that in America?
I bought 4 yoyos & they don't appear to be at all interested in the snails. My tanks are heavily planted so I'm hoping that maybe they are eating in private & getting the eggs & newly hatched babies, leaving the slightly older ones.
Maybe that’s the case. And maybe they aren’t hungry enough if you’re giving them plenty of food?
Did you ever test them with the none pest snails?
No they cleared up my problem though
I breed assassin snails in my skittles shrimp tank... i use a few in all my tanks in my fish room.
Do they work?
@@Mountain_Aquatics yes... they work and are cool looking... i even have them in wirh my lake tanganyika cichlids

I'm from India. I have shrimps in the tank. Is it safe to add these loaches?
No need to answer. Got the answer in the comments. Well I have to search for other option!
Glad you sorted it!
I have shrimps in my tank.. wil this eat shrip also.. please sujjest
I think it would yes
i like the bladder snails for their ability to clean the tank better than anything else i had. even nerite snails and otocinculus.
Awesome comment. Yes the assassin snails are good for control. These loach are better if you want them gone completely
Thanks, that's gotta be the best way to get rid of bladder snails. They came in on a plant and took over. Do they eat their eggs too ? If not then it'll still be a problem.
Thanks for the comment. I don’t think they will eat the eggs. But they should eat the young snails before they have a chance to breed.over time they will sort out the snails for you completely.
@@Mountain_Aquatics If I wanted to put these in a tank temporarily, how long do you think I should leave them to ensure the snails have been eradicated? Or at least, to have the highest chance that they will be gone before removing the loaches. I have a 10 gallon tank and ultimately, will not have room for the loaches in my final stocking plan.
@@thoughtgaming492 it would have to be a few months. If there are already snail eggs and young you’d have to wait for them to hatch and get big enough to be eaten. But they would do the job over time 👍🏻
Great video. Once all my snails have gone, will they be happy just eating bloodworms, brine, flakes etc?
Yes perfectly happy with that once the snails have gone. Let me know how you get on!
@@Mountain_Aquatics Thanks. My snails are much smaller than yours were... I'll take a few of them along to the store & see what they have to say about fish-eating-snail-choice too. Cheers :)
@@Mountain_Aquatics They recommended Dwarf Loaches. I currently have 10 neon tetra, 10 phantom tetra & 7 Cory cory Sterbai in a 125 litre tank. Everyone is getting on well... he said that I would need more than 1, at least 3, but there is a chance that they might bully the others... so I haven't committed yet... I am worried about stressing out all of my existing tank mates...!

does this fish can put in guppy and platty and gurami tank ?
Should be fine yes
Yoyo didn't do a thing for me. Still on the search for a fix. Pretty soon gonna tare the tank down.
Perhaps you’re feeding them too well? Leave them hungry for a bit and their natural instincts will kick in
Will the loaches eat baby cherry shrimp too?
I think they will yes
From where they comes in my acquarium🤔 i dont know about them
Plz suggest me what i should do
What do you mean?
I found 5 to 6 small snails in my aquarium, i dont know from where they came in my aquarium
Did you add any new plants? Sometimes they are on eggs in the plants
I brought some stones from the Ganga river, I put them in the aquarium
I got a pair of them a month ago and I haven't seen them eat any snails not have I seen any empty shells. Maybe they are too young yet. They are about 1½-2 inches. How long did you have them in the tank before you started noticing a decline in snail population?
I noticed it almost immediately. Your snails may be too large or your loaches too small for now. I have since moved these loaches on to other tanks and they have gone to town on those aquariums too and have destroyed the pest snail population there to. Stick with them, they will work. For now they may only be eating a few small ones. Over time they will get through them. How large is the tank they are in?
Can I mix this fish with discuss?
I don’t keep discus, but they are tooth enough to take care of themselves so I can’t see there being any problems
Hey mate
I'm in Australia and have hundreds of these little tiny miniature black shelled snails all over my 55gallon. I have loaches but not like yours. They are eating all my plants. I will look for those loaches at my pet store and hope they work.
Yes I hope you manage to find some
ok so i was looking for striped kuhli loaches at the store for this and they didn't have any....but the guy there said that the YOYOs do well eating snails. so, i got one, trying it out. got 'im yesterday.
Have you seen him eating any yet?

Thanks for the video, did these loaches fix your issue with Ramshorn snails??
Yep there are no snails in that tank now. But my other tanks are full of snails and it’s difficult to catch the loaches to move them over to another tank 😂

Can you put loaches in guppy tank?
Yes but keep an eye on them just in case
@@Mountain_Aquatics thanks for the reply. Appreciate it
Dear Jamie:
What size is this tank, please? I have several 10-gallon tanks infested with pest snails and limpets. I don't believe such a tank is large enough for a yoyo loach.
Please advise.
Thank you for sharing this, terrific video on some, amazing, snail-eating fish. I especially appreciate the footage of loaches eating snails.
All my best,

Thanks for subscribing. I hope you enjoy some of my other videos. I’m not sure on how much water this old tank holds but it certainly isn’t very big. I wouldn’t keep a yo-yo loach in a tank this size indefinitely, but I have many large tanhs which now that they have eradicated the snail population they have been moved to. Perhaps o should have mentioned that in the video. Cheers 👍🏻
Dear Jamie:
I’m trying to come up with a way to eradicate snails, but I realize that the only true solution is to start over. I’m doing a series of experiments to rid small thanks of snails:

@@ejbrinegar thanks. If you have a good relationship with your local fish store they may also take the yo-yo loaches back once they finish their job
Dear Jamie:
Well, I have done that with nerite snails.

Brinegar
Had snail problems for years… used every chemical, manual removal, traps. All useless. Then I bought one Pakistani loach - problem solved in a week. Ate every single snail.
I’m glad it worked for you as well! Thanks for the comment.
Aye, those Yo-Yo's sure like them snails. I'm now convinced most loaches are French. Oui, Oui... Escargot. 👍
Oh yes! 😂
I wish i could do this... I already own 2 clown loaches but just my luck i introduced shrimp into my tank just a week ago before i found this video and remembered they did this and the shrimp are for sure too small to leave with the loaches
That’s a shame! What else do you think you could try?
Haha I bought 3 yoyo loaches for this reason.. Next day I already saw 1 teasing snail around tank. Didnt seen any snails since then...
Awesome news! All the snails are gone?
Having too many snails might be a sign that you put too much food in the tank. Less extra food, less snails. No need to kill them all, they re useful.
Don't they eat your plants though ?
@@Boss-zo4lw they don t seem to do so in my tank.
This is not always the case. The snails can eat algae so even if you are feeding exactly the correct ammount, they can still multiply like crazy, especially in a new tank going through imbalance and algae battles.
Did they eat shrimps ?
They ate small shrimp but not the big ones
And here I am researching how to maintain a pond snail culture to feed my giant gourami fish, they eat them like candy. How one's pest is others hobby. Good luck.
Giant gourami, an impressive fish. Does he have any for meds or is he kept alone?

I’ve just got back from a week long holiday and my fish weren’t fed once. And the tanks looked cleaner than ever! Don’t worry, fish do fine for a few days without food. They will find plenty in the tank, and this should include your loach getting a taste for snails 😉
