    Totally agree. This is such a gem, and so 'Stones' at their core. Everyone knows the hits, but this to me is such a pure Stones vibe. Lovely, dirty, heartfelt and ballsey. How this stayed off Exile is beyond me.

      Had Jagger written the lyrics at that point or did he write them when he added his vocals for this release?

    Something about this song, maybe even moreso than any other song on Exile, this takes me back to that time. Does anyone agree that this song makes it feel like that time period?

    I truly love this masterful hidden gem 💎.I also love the video as well. I love how it shows all of the good times that the Stones shared together during during that time. The 70's are amazing. This is when rock and roll was truly bad ass. I've loved the Stones for 49yrs. I started listening when I was 10 years old. They are the best rock band in the world 🌎. 2nd to none.

    No, it isn't you. This is my favorite Rolling Stones single ever and I only heard it for the first time maybe two months ago. The vid is just perfect. It simply captures my favorite Stones period musically and also the 70's rock and roll experience. The 70's as far as I'm concerned was and remains the era that brought us the best rock music, best r&b, best soul, and best country. Heading out of American Bandstand and straight into Soul Train but before Studio 54.

    I would give an arm to have been in the house of Keith in Nellcote (Costa Azul) during the recording of "Exile on Main Streets". No other band could have created one of the best albums in history to the conditions (in this time Keith, Anita, Bobby Keys ... compulsively using heroin) in which this was recorded.
    This video is wonderful, her images transport you to another era in which to be a rock star was tops. Thanks for all these videos, your channel is very interesting.

  • @GraachAhim

    Mr.Janssens: apart from "Tumbling Dice", "Happy" and "Ventilator Blues", this completely superb song could replace any other song from Exile. Not that those songs are weak. It's just that "Plundered My Soul" is the greatest "forgotten beneath studio piles of tapes" ever recorded. IMHO.

    • @matthewlacey5307
      @matthewlacey5307 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Rocks off, torn and frayed, loving cup, shine a light, just wanna see his face, rip this joint, all down the line, sweet virginia all at least need to be on the original Exile, Mr GraachAhim, so, in my view, there is only limited scope for the inclusion of Plundered (though I 100% agree with you on its merits)

    • @GraachAhim
      @GraachAhim 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Matthew Lacey Yes, MrLacey.... all songs on your list are undeniably great. But I do believe that "Plundered My Soul" reaches the same level of excellence. Cheers.

    i discovered this song last Dec via this video. I love it. Keep watching it over & over.
    I moved into my dorm at college w/ Exile on Main Street casette tape blaring in my used Pontiac Ventura. It was a beautiful Fall day in New England. A pretty cute girl walked by & just looked @ me & my buds with this huge smile.. guess she liked the Stones too. I always remember that, that smiling girl. Impossible to forget. Just one of those things.

    From what I understand, this was left off "Exile" as it was too similar to "Tumbling Dice." OK, fair enough ... but to not put it on any album thereafter? This is such a great, classic-Stones sounding song. The overall vibe of hearbreak and regret. The lyrics: "I smelled rubber, and soon discovered you were gone for good." "You'll be a hard act to follow, a bitter pill to swallow." Oh Mick, we've all been there. This song would have been perfect on "Black and Blue." Great video, too.

      Totally agree with that, some great bands around in the era, from 69 onwards the stones set the standard of how big it would be, if you have the audience that is which is something that they had in abundance, globally, some great big names bands wise had a support slot on their tours which they were more than grateful to be on due to the fact that it didn't get any bigger

    Thanks for posting, actually never heard this track! The vid clips are from movie "C*cksucker Blues" which documented the Exile tour in '73, produced by Marshall Chess the first head of then-new Rolling Stones records whose family also started Chess Records. There are more excerpts on YT, full movie is 3+ hours. Like Stones home video but when the band saw the final cut they blocked release due to its rampant debauchery (look for the tour plane scene if you can find it....). Apparently it was only allowed to be screened once a year at one cinema on earth. Side note: Mr. Chess also owned the rights to hits like "Surfin USA" and "The Peppermint Twist" and in the '90s produced and managed blue-eyed soul artist Murali Coryell, son of the late jazz guitar innovator Larry. (Corrections/replies welcome.)

      But the guitar is pure Mick Taylor, which makes it feel more like Exile early 1970s.

      That was MT's mission when this was recorded, only a few years ago. Inimitable! 🎸

      @@somegirls2002 Look at it this way, maybe the Stones time travelled forward in order to rip off their future sound of Steel Wheels...?!
      Am not sure either way but am trying to make sense of the original proposition.

    I have countless Stones bootlegs and am still holding out that SOMEDAY these tracks will be released without the modern overdubs. Here, Jagger implements the same methodology that went into Tattoo You -- take unused tracks from the glory years, record new vocals, add overdubs, and release it as a new single.
