Hi Dan I have this tent and you can pitch outer first using the footprint and poles then clip inner inside clipping from back to front, hope this helps 👍🏼
@@TheNotoriousT Late reply, but basically; you lay down the groundsheet, stick the poles in the corners, put the rainfly over the poles, attach the fly to the clips on the groundsheet, crawl underneath the flysheet, attach the innertent to the poles, adjust your buckles/clips/guylines and you're set, works well. Only downside is that if you take too long with the first step, water will get between the groundsheet and the innertent floor
Used a lantern like yours just after Christmas when we had a power cut, must be over 35 years old a good bit of kit. We keep it handy in the porch. Having lived through the "three day week" in the mid seventies we keep a few bits on standby .
HI if that tent was mine and it was the only one I got I woud add a small tarp for the door it's nice that you have shown that sometimes it doesn't always goes right and that folks is the joy of camping 😀😀😀😀😀😀
Beautiful location! I decided a long time ago that a tent must pitch together or it wasn't for me. That said, I own two tents suitable for bushcamps and am a dedicated tarp using ground pounder!
Yeah Dan like others have probably already said, for setting up you can set the outer first. Pain in the arse but it would keep everything a bit more dry at the start. But it does look like the “porch” area doesn’t give you you enough protection. So like you said maybe not the best tent to use in the rain if you intend on making meals. Me personally when I go out knowing it’s going to rain lots I always bring a good tarp and extra cordage. Being prepared is always the key when camping in crappy weather. Anyways, enjoyable as always. Now I’ll watch Scott’s and Vegan’s videos. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.

I must say that I personally found this video very helpful and shows that the unexpected can happen and how it shouldn't put you off. Like you say if you pick the wrong tent for the conditions then you need to think on the spot. The scenery was amazing and the old quarry was Impressive. i love mantle lanterns, very bright, too bright lol. I just shaved my beard off ...i look much younger...but ....lost me double chin cozy at the same time lol. The campsite is great, rugged history with a view, poor sods working there had a tough day im sure of it, being stuck in traffic.....luxory, the ol four Yorkshire men skit comes to mind. I don't see how it wasn't the tent design that failed. Just going in and out would cause the dripping inside. No tent should leak, period. Cooking and eating while camping is part of the experience. You are out over night, you are going to eat. Didn't Naturehike even put out their own mini stove? They know you are going to cook. The Outer fly went to the ground everywhere except the the door? They could have sprung for an extra foot of cover over the entrance. That tent clearly needs a tarp in rainy conditions. I have to say, I have spent far to much money on tents for 60+ years that have failed in my life because you have to buy it to try it so I really appreciate you guys who go out and test these tents and camping gear. I have a large family so smaller tents will not suffice but because of another camping YT channel I finally found an awesome reliable tent. I really enjoy your channel and the fact that you guys go out together on your adventures.
@yvonne - do you have any alternative suggestions which are fairly compact but can accommodate 2 small children and 1 adult - but offer a dry place to cook still?
@@JessopVTS We don't hike to our campsites anymore so compact isn't that much of an issue for us. When we camp we usually still have 2 adults, at least two grandkids and a dog so the tent we finally went with is the Wawona 6 (AB Camping does a great test of this tent. He has taken it out at least three times that I remember.) It's very spacious, has a nice vestibule, never leaks and holds up well in the wind. Lots of space for cooking inside the vestibule. There is a smaller version, Wawona 4 but we needed a little more space. We car camp now because hiking is an issue for me so the car is usually fairly close to the site. As far as compact tents go they just don't offer enough space + vestibule to accommodate us. I wish I could help but I found the tent we are in love with. I will say that any decent tent that has a good rep and sleeps 3-4 will work with a tarp. We got used to having a tarp due to all the crummy tents we wasted money on in the past but I have zero complaints about tarps and their usefulness. Good luck finding the tent you need.

@yvonne it seems i'm back to the start of my search - the wawona 6 looks a solid option but currently in the UK it's very expensive and limited availability. even the ground sheet is not available in the UK. Ah well - those I've seen for sale on facebook market are all just scams

Hi Dan. Great vid as always. I have a lamp similar to that that I found in me dads garage. He said he used it in the power cuts in the ‘70’s. Have the stove too, as they both came in a set. Great bits of kit and still work as good as they did. Regards
i always carry a small 2mx2m poly sheet and some paracord and extra pegs just to be able to make a extension if i need it i learnt the hard way as well good video

Get yourself to dinorwic quarry north wales. Some great caves to camp in. And some good areas for quiet tent camping too. Been there loads of times never had any hassle even in the lower old house parts where the miners used to stay.
Always thought the vestibule on the Cloudup2 (and similar tents) was a flawed design in wet weather - not great in the English climate. Well done for battling it out mate.
To those who are not initiated Danny seeing you erect the new tent would be beneficial. Maybe you could do a set up your tent series. you must have a few tents now and hammocks too.
The quary was an interesting place, imagine what those stone walls could tell you if they could speak, blokes working all weathers, hard graft, probably 12 hour shifts. Keep the beard Dan it suits you, you look like obi wan kenobi, may the force be with you!
I've got the 3 person, enhanced version of this with the lighter weight outer and footprint, definitely not a 4 season, but is great for 3 season, and tbh, most 4 season tents are far too hot in summer, I like the extra space and it is lightweight, you can pitch the outer first and I've just used the inner when its been really hot weather as a mossie net, its really handy being able to move the tent, once it has been set up, Vestibule could be bigger, agree, but is better on the 3 person, if there is a gale blowing, it is very draughty, but I'd rather have that than condensation.
Great video , I have been through that tunnel , there is an old ruined Hall on the opposite side of the valley which is good to look at if you walk from Queensbury on the other side of the valley it will be in the trees on your left hand side as you head to Halifax would like to see you sleep in that
Just like to say I have subscribed and love watching I'm not person to go camping but I AM a carp angler and love the rain in my bivvy and sometimes I don't catch so in some ways I'm camping so on that note keep them coming 😅

I always bring my DD tarp with just for rain days. With the tent I pull it over the top of the tent to make a porch and with the Hammock I have used it once to make a larger tarp under the hammock tarp in porch mode off one side for me and others to cook over. Worked for me anyway. But I motorcycle camp so I do not have to carry the extra weigh in a back pack.
Good video. Curry looked fine to me, tent looked poor - wont be buying one of them. Would love to know a little more about the purpose and history of the quarry and little village and the point of the tunnel. Beautiful part of the country.
The one thing I've learned over many years of wild camping, is that small tents just don't do it. Yep, lighter to carry, but everything else, makes for a poorer camping experience. The cons outweigh the pro's.
Great video Dan. It's all about adapting to the conditions you are faced with which can always change. I'm a huge fan of naturehike tents and I've got a couple myself. Could peak 2 and the Mongar 2. I don't like the look of the cloud up. I know it shouldn't matter but I think it looks ugly and I suppose you buy what you like 😂 The rain thing has shown up an other problem with it. I love the naturehike cloud peak 2 but that has a similar problem when it rains. If you have the outer door open, rain runs down the top cap and runs into the inner as it's just not long enough.
I would have gone for a cloud peak but that rain possibly coming in made me choose the opalus 3...giant of a tent but not to heavy.But I am moto camping most of the time!
The weather reminds me of the weather in movies about the mid-evil times in old England. Why is that when producers and directors make movies about mid-evil times there is never ever any sunlight? It is always dark, dreery and wet.
On the older cloud up2 few ppl (like summit or nothing) have managed to pitch the outer first, using the footprint to set up the poles and clipping inner up once the fly is on
25:56 that bright colour would wake you up in the morning. My tent is pretty dark and blocks the light. Always worth considering depending on your preference

If you do it that way don’t you put the poles to the inner’s straps?
